I like the new song, even if it's not as distinctive or immediate as Realiti. I also like that her vocals seem to be clearer and more intelligible than usual (either that or a week of listening to Realiti has made me Grimes-fluent)

the new song is pleasant though not as immediately gratifying as realiti. i'd been struggling to come to terms with the idea of grimes being influenced by artists like dolly parton, taylor swift and paramore so this helps somewhat to clarify those inspirations.

bae sremmurd (monotony), Sunday, 15 March 2015 22:32 (eleven years ago)

also like "Go" entropy is a collab that I wouldn't read too much into re: new album

bae sremmurd (monotony), Sunday, 15 March 2015 22:33 (eleven years ago)

it's a one-off for a tv show that seems to be billed 'bleachers feat. grimes.' i think it's just a thing she did for fun and an easy check.

soyrev OTM. This song played over the credits of tonight's episode of 'Girls'

No mention of the tour with Lana Del Rey yet? Would have been great if it was Lana del Rey, Grimes, and Courtney Love all together on one bill.

what in this thread would turn me off of her music or her sense of humor, idgi

grimes is rare almost holy trifecta of good on twitter/good on instagram/good on tumblr

tender is the late-night daypart (schlump), Friday, 3 April 2015 01:01 (eleven years ago)

for a celeb her twitter is good, and personal, not just a PR arm. it's a mixture of

- i love call of duty/taylor swift/pokemon/dolly parton/x men/im a really normal geek not weird
- cutesy weird platitudes, observations, inner thoughts
- psychedelic elves and shit

but occasionally this

Feeling the Enya influence more than ever on Realiti.

great call

soyrev, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 04:45 (eleven years ago)

So still no release date for the new album ?
3 years is a very long time to follow up a successful first album (ok, still far from Stone Roses timing but still !)

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 09:30 (eleven years ago)

it was her third album

Number None, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 10:00 (eleven years ago)

really ? solo ?

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 10:15 (eleven years ago)

ok so not stone roses comparison but guns n'roses, then !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 10:17 (eleven years ago)

a 3 year album cycle is fairly normal these days, even after debut/breakthrough albums like this

ufo, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 11:11 (eleven years ago)

https://twitter.com/Grimezsz/status/587066373475450880 she's hoping to finish the album in the next month or so, so it's not too far away

ufo, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 11:14 (eleven years ago)

yeah maybe... I must be old (school) !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 11:16 (eleven years ago)

ah ! that's good news !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 11:17 (eleven years ago)

and she might rush/surprise release it like Beyonce, MBV, Drake, etc !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 11:17 (eleven years ago)

realiti still destroys just about everything i've heard this year

soyrev, Monday, 27 April 2015 12:23 (eleven years ago)

listening to it now!

Treeship, Monday, 27 April 2015 12:51 (eleven years ago)

i've been listening to

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt0IiGxNntw

very different from realiti, but still good. i might even like it more? idk. deserves more attention than i feel like it got, but then again people seemed to have forgotten about realiti not too long after it was released

markers, Sunday, 3 May 2015 22:35 (eleven years ago)

which is probably true about most songs people like on the internet in 2015

markers, Sunday, 3 May 2015 22:35 (eleven years ago)

That link isn't working for me, what's the song called?

sonic thedgehod (albvivertine), Sunday, 3 May 2015 23:13 (eleven years ago)

good song, weird comment section. I don't understand why so many fans feel betrayed whenever she releases something that isn't particularly weird/dark/experimental, as if a mnstrm pop song by Grimes is the equivalent of one of those Dune sequels written by Frank Herbert's son — "this isn't canon!" I didn't like 'Go' when I first heard it last year, but I didn't have a tantrum about how it was an ~unwise career move~ or whatever, and I don't want/expect everything on her next album to sound just like 'Realiti'.

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Sunday, 3 May 2015 23:27 (eleven years ago)

(the song is Bleachers x Grimes 'Entropy', albvivertine)

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Sunday, 3 May 2015 23:28 (eleven years ago)

perhaps i'm not discerning, or being immersed in ilm for so many years has made me less conscious of the genre of whatever song i'm listening to, but i don't really give a shit what kind of music she makes as long as it's good, and all of these one offs are good imo. her voice on "entropy" is fantastic.

markers, Sunday, 3 May 2015 23:34 (eleven years ago)

I basically agree with all that, though I still haven't come around to 'Go'. of all the artists I currently follow, Grimes is the one I'm least eager to read reviews/comments/thinkpieces/ilx clusterfucks about (which are pretty easy to ignore, tbh). she really does sound great in this song.

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Monday, 4 May 2015 00:02 (eleven years ago)

Grimes rules can't wait to hear whatever she does.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 May 2015 00:06 (eleven years ago)

unfortunately, i barely care about music at this point in my life -- something i need to remedy, but i still follow her career

markers, Monday, 4 May 2015 00:10 (eleven years ago)

then again people seemed to have forgotten about realiti not too long after it was released

have they? i haven't rly been paying attention to the zeitgeist but i think i would be comfortable calling "realiti" the best song grimes has ever made

bae sremmurd (monotony), Monday, 4 May 2015 00:39 (eleven years ago)

:(

xpost - I'm sort of the opposite: at this point I wish I were slightly less obsessed with music so that I'd have more time & energy for hobbies. too much of my life is spent buying/slsking/listening to/reading about music out of habit because that's how I've spent large chunks of my free time since I was a teenager. maybe I should try speed-reading Knausgaard for a change?

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Monday, 4 May 2015 00:43 (eleven years ago)

 *other hobbies

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Monday, 4 May 2015 00:45 (eleven years ago)

monotony: at least as far as ilxors go, i feel like people expressed positive feelings about it for a very brief period of time -- maybe a day -- and then i don't really recall many people, if anyone, mentioning it again, but they may have, and people outside of ilx might have been talking about it for a longer period of time, but, again, there's always new music coming out and how long are people going to spend focused on one song anyway

unreg: do whatever makes you happy! i don't know what happened to me and music, but i've just been much more into reading lately. actually, i kind of fell off the music bandwagon years ago, unfortunately... which is weird because i used to spend a lot of money on records. i kind of think i should get back into it, but i'm not even that really amped to do so

markers, Monday, 4 May 2015 01:02 (eleven years ago)

I'll be happy if I can just make it through the last ≈150 pages of Lilith's Brood (which I've been waffling over for about a week now). in my experience the worst thing you can do when you begin losing interest in books/music is to deliberately work your way through a required reading/listening list. I still get burned out on music occasionally, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was when I made an effort to keep up with new releases. (of course there are some artists I'll want to follow in real time no matter how scattered my listening habits become...)

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Monday, 4 May 2015 01:52 (eleven years ago)

"realiti" is my favorite song of the year so far (probably will be my #1 by the end of the year) and i listen to it at least once every day

j. winters (josh), Monday, 4 May 2015 02:15 (eleven years ago)

i think people are going to kill us for going off topic, so i'll just tie this up by saying that if i don't force myself to sit down and listen to music sometime soon it's really possible that the majority of my listening is going to be whatever i hear on the radio when i'm in the car. i barely listen to music at home. sometimes in the morning when i'm cleaning. that's it. it's insane compared to what it was when i was in college, but that's where it's at, and i don't know how that changes without some sort of concerted effort
