ooh thanks for this. I'm still looking for a way into this band. I have The Wedding, Secret Wars, Anthem Of The Moon, and the Nice EP. What am I obviously missing?

honestly i feel like these live recordings are their best work!

Rated O and Each One Teach One are my favorites.

Each One Teach One is great, but I like Anthem of the Moon and Secret Wars a lot too (and Rated O). They really are best as a live experience though.

^ agree w this. honestly think the wedding and secret wars see them trying to be something other than what they naturally are (traditional rock band, rather than a god-level psychedelic groove machine), to generally disappointing effect. they have moments, those more song-driven albums, but nothing to stand with their best work. agree that the live show is the only way to truly know the O.

I missed the boat on them for a long time too, and found a way in through first the song "Run Through My Hair", then that 10th-anniversary comp they gave away. After that I was hooked.

CHARNEL GROUND is a meeting of Chris Brokaw (Come/Codeine/The New Year etc). on electric guitar, James McNew (Yo La Tengo, Dump) on bass, and Kid Millions (Oneida/Man Forever/etc) on drums, dedicated to exploring the outer and inner regions of instrumental rock music. 'Charnel Ground' was recorded in Brooklyn NY in 2016, and informed and dedicated to pivotal transitions.

Had dinner with him once when a friend was involved in an early Man Forever piece (the one with the 1/2 hour long single-stroke roll, which was great), just a super nice and genuine dude.

last year's man forever record has some great stuff on it — the Laurie Anderson collab is unreal.

Previously, Oneida pushed further into abstract sounds, recording compositions that couldn’t have been more different than the hammering anthems of their past. They return with 'Success', their most guitar-centric, rock album in decades.

Guessing there must be some long jams yet to be unleashed on the new one, 3 of the 7 songs have been released and they only total about 12 minutes.

"Paralyzed" is almost 11 minutes and there are two others at more than seven. The record is really on it, a total surprise for AOTY that no one will realize until all the ballots are in.

Just got my copy today, can't wait to dig in!

Sadly, just saw that Kid Millions got COVID and their remaining tour dates are canceled.

Spinning this again today, this really is great. Might even be my favorite since Rated O.

Looking forward to listening to it for the first time soon.

I wasn’t mad on the singles, but it all works much better in context. Digging this, though I do wonder if their 00’s output isn’t everything I’ll ever need from them.

Sane for me. I am always glad they are doing stuff, and find things to enjoy alright about the more recent albums, but they don't work for me like the first run of albums with the original lineup (and the albums post-Papa C that were trio records).

gosh it totally slipped my mind they were playing a bandshell concert in queens this past saturday with 75 dollar bill. kicking myself.

Still loving the new one, it's so great.

Mildly annoyed by Secretly Canadian with their distribution, ordered the Steel Rod EP and Happy New Year from them back in August, the two main holes in my Oneida collection and hadn't had any luck stumbling across copies in the wild. Every time I check back in I get a response about the items being "delayed coming from the warehouse", which fine, but creeping up on three months for older catalog titles they insist they have in stock seems like a long time. Mostly just annoyed that since I placed the order I've, naturally, came across a copy of each that I didn't buy because they were supposedly on the way.

Anyway, venting over, back to Success!
