haha! my friend said she went to that show in 1995. She was staying at a hotel and was waiting in the lobby for her friend when Gavin came down and sat near her, striking up a conversation. He eventually took his shirt off, natch

Poliopolice, Monday, 2 March 2015 22:21 (eleven years ago)

Hey, 1995 me thought 1995 Gavin was super hot, so fair play. But a bit weird in a hotel lobby.

That was the same show where Gwen Stefani told me she loved me and dumped a water bottle on my head.

ƋППṍӮɨ∏ğڵșěᶉᶇдM℮ (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 2 March 2015 22:25 (eleven years ago)

i remember thinking at the time that i could have predicted that ending before she even told me. lawllll

Poliopolice, Monday, 2 March 2015 22:27 (eleven years ago)

these two albums are long overdue for a deluxe remaster type deal

also, heard the new Torche today and I bet those guys have spent some time listening to Hum

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 02:14 (eleven years ago)

This thread got me thinking about this band again and in doing a little research found out that there were two albums released before YPAA. Never knew this! Anyone heard these? Worth seeking out?

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 18:29 (eleven years ago)

yeah "electra 2000" rules

billstevejim, Thursday, 5 March 2015 07:09 (eleven years ago)

i liked it okay in that era but over time it was one of the ones i sold back in some one of many waves of cd hoard purging (keeping 'astronaut' and 'downward'), must have just never felt like playing it for years

j., Thursday, 5 March 2015 07:41 (eleven years ago)

also search the "Puppets"/"Aphids" single.

crystal-brained yogahead (map), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 16:00 (five years ago)

this is such an awesome unexpected gift

crystal-brained yogahead (map), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 16:03 (five years ago)

i cried a little at the guitar tone

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 16:03 (five years ago)

Fantastic news! Trying to decide if I can hold out for the physical version in September. Very doubtful.

Still one of the best shows I saw in college was when these guys headlined an outdoor festival at West Side Park in Champaign in 1996.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 16:10 (five years ago)

Okay, yep, not gonna be able to hold out.

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 16:27 (five years ago)

y'all this album is so good????!?!?!??!?!

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 16:28 (five years ago)

this coming out 20 years after White Pony is some beautiful synchronicity

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 16:28 (five years ago)

it's super good!

mookieproof, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 16:36 (five years ago)

I guess they now have Shiner's drummer, seems like an appropriate choice

that opening riff/sound brought a rush of emotions lol

Spottie, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 17:30 (five years ago)

waiting till I can blast this on proper speakers whilst high, that seems like the appropriate and respectful thing to do

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 17:32 (five years ago)

this has begun explosively

imago, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 17:37 (five years ago)

Nice.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 17:50 (five years ago)

yeah this is extremely heavy, we're talking like angelic process heavy

imago, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 17:52 (five years ago)

wow
TY Brad for letting us know

calstars, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 17:54 (five years ago)

holy shit

holy shit

j., Tuesday, 23 June 2020 17:56 (five years ago)

waiting till I can blast this on proper speakers whilst high, that seems like the appropriate and respectful thing to do

Yeah, it's why I'm holding off for now. I'd love to do this while holding the physical thing in my hand to start at the cover, but since they won't even be shipping until the end of August that seems very... unlikely.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 17:58 (five years ago)

why would you hold off

imago, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 17:59 (five years ago)

get stoned right now and pretend you're next to the ocean

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:00 (five years ago)

why would you hold off

Specifically because for the next five hours at least I am stuck at my work laptop with really shitty speakers. Def not going to experience this for the first time like that. I'll wait until tonight and I can at least stream it to my better speakers.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:02 (five years ago)

fair, fair

imago, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:04 (five years ago)

Liking this so far

Brad is it this weeks album of the year? ;)

Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:05 (five years ago)

yes

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:17 (five years ago)

it's been ~17 years since I first heard DiH, I can wait another few hours

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:24 (five years ago)

this album is riff city

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:24 (five years ago)

its great

Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:26 (five years ago)

tracks 2 and 3 are the pinnacle (maybe 7 too) but yeah

imago, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:29 (five years ago)

"cloud city" -> "folding"... lysergic guitar bliss

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:34 (five years ago)

yeah that too i almost threw in cloud city

imago, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:34 (five years ago)

god though the end of 'in the den'

imago, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:38 (five years ago)

an ending so powerful they do it again on the next track and it's just as good

imago, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 18:45 (five years ago)

relistening to DiH in preparation and it's now obvious to me that Hum are the shane carruth of rock. no I will not be taking questions

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Tuesday, 23 June 2020 19:02 (five years ago)

Well then, this is a bit oceanic, innit...

Maresn3st, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 20:05 (five years ago)

they get ross robinson in to produce this thing??

j., Tuesday, 23 June 2020 22:09 (five years ago)

It's reminding me of that last Cave In record, that one that was mostly works-in-progress, but really good.

Maresn3st, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 22:12 (five years ago)

kind of too bad to lose brian st pere, his neil peart energy was a big part of this band's charm

j., Tuesday, 23 June 2020 22:12 (five years ago)

Sorry, this is shameless. Almost admirable in its devotion to not having a single original idea

Paul Ponzi, Monday, 24 October 2022 20:19 (three years ago)

Yeah. I gave it a chance, but it ended up just on the wrong side of annoying

calstars, Monday, 24 October 2022 20:34 (three years ago)

I like Milly!

Goddamn this band.

Working my way through the post-Fillet Show discography today and just, wow. I'd argue three perfect albums in a row with Astronaut > Downward > Inlet.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 23 February 2024 18:11 (two years ago)

I still can't believe how good Inlet is, especially after such a long break (decades!). I need to remember this the next time we have a poll about great late-period / comeback albums

Paul Ponzi, Saturday, 24 February 2024 01:23 (two years ago)

I bought a Hum hoodie from Matt Talbot's distro and it came in a box with an Airheads candy in it. Then I looked at the Hum Starsposting FB group and learned that he does that with all orders.

“Waves” has some dope mbv vibes

calstars, Saturday, 24 February 2024 23:10 (two years ago)

one year passes...

Shows announced out of nowhere today: NYC, Chicago, LA. The band's FB page had a pre-order code, I managed to score two to the Chicago show in May. Kind of weird they're just surfacing out of nowhere, but also typical for their behavior this century. Also, they're bringing Shiner's drummer along, which is something they've done in the past. Looking forward to it!

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Monday, 29 September 2025 21:28 (eight months ago)

I doubt I can make it to any of these but maaaan do I want to hear Inlet songs live. Always wanted to see Cloakroom on the same bill...

Love the cue from Escape From New York as the intro music! Or maybe they were just playing the whole soundtrack over the PA

Maresn3st, Sunday, 17 May 2026 08:30 (three weeks ago)

same intro music the second night, so must've been deliberate

Seeing them tonight for the first time since the '90s. Can't wait.
