Love it all, but especially for how detailed the instruments are.

i went to the show this past saturday
really great valentine's day night out for me & my wife
lizzo was great, started out with her grrrl party crew coming out w/dj shannon blowtorch playing classic grrl punk - runaways, slits, bikini kill, etc
then lizzo rapped w/her crew for awhile and transitioned to solo set (w/ new live drummer who was great)
overall she was really excellent, gonna be a star i think, obviously big hometown show seemed like a big deal to her
sleater kinney was great, a few moments seeming tentative but overall really played excellently, janet might be better than ever as as drummer....good setlist, good mix, played quite a few new songs and they really stood up to the old stuff live, seemed better than when I'd listened to it online
anyway, they are great band and the crowd was definitely grateful to see them again as was i

Didn't see them here this week (horrible cold), but I love reading stuff like
Was cool to see who played what guitar-wise
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 19 February 2015 23:48 (eleven years ago)
they had a utility member, can't remember the name, they said it though...but that was kinda lame they did the whole 80s hair band thing of not lighting the extra member so she was in the shadows the whole time which like fine but it's not like we don't know she's there and there's nothing wrong with wanting an extra guitar part w/weird efx or keyboard part if you want

They mentioned Katie at the Boston show tonight, which was awesome. Really enjoyed how much Corin was into belting out "What's Mine Is Yours." Also cool that Corin sings the whole chorus to "Entertain" now.
They played "the end of you" for the first time this tour, and Carrie actually forgot the lines to the first chorus. I also noticed they changed the thurston Moore reference in Joey ramone to Kim Gordon.
The new songs sounded excellent live, even better than the old stuff. Corin singing "gimme love" while dancing around without a guitar was a surprise highlight.

That's what she did in the original version before they wrote the chorus on the record:

I don't appreciate this Mary Timony erasure.

Sorry for the dumb joke.
― Hollinger Escape Plan (Leee), Monday, 23 February 2015 17:35 (eleven years ago)
I don't get the dumb joke, but I'm woefully uneducated about Mary Timony.
― how's life, Monday, 23 February 2015 17:46 (eleven years ago)
There's a live recording of "I Wanna Be..." from a number of years ago (way before Thurston shot himself in the foot) where they replaced him with Mary Timony.

Yesterday’s show was fantastic. A few unedited notes:
- Mostly young crowd. Mostly female.- While there’s few punk kids, the few are respectably scummy.- They spent a few minutes shaking hands, talking to fans, and collecting homemade zines from the stage. They haven’t changed. They are still super nice.- Most of the applause was for material from The Woods and No Cities to Love. A New Wave, Jumpers, and Modern Girl.- “We’re Sleater-Kinney from Portland, OR.” I frequently ran into Janet in Portland. I ran into Carrie a few times too. Yet I was still surprised they weren’t Sleater-Kinney from Olympia. I’m old.- Sleater-Kinney is the best rock band of my generation. Carrie remains my favorite guitarist.- Corin referenced Kim Gordon rather than Thurston Moore. Audience erupted.

I am rly, rly excited they started playing "Sympathy" and "Youth Decay" and I am hoping in my heart of hearts that they play one or both of those when they play in Philly but tbh I'm already pissing myself abt getting to see "Oh!" so

i listened to the new album at the gym
good workout music and it was nice to just listen & enjoy it without being all wrapped up in how good it was or whether it was a worthy comeback album blah blah blah

I remember many permutations of the "Entertain" chorus while seeing them live circa 2003-2004. I preferred one of the earlier ones to what they finally ended up with, but on the DVD that came with The Woods, they still sing the older version. I do like Corin singing both her and Carrie's part though.
I also had that mp3 where Corin sings "I want to be your Mary Tim-moan-ee," therefore ruining my pronunciation of "Timony" forever.
― Michael F Gill, Monday, 23 February 2015 23:44 (eleven years ago)
How do you pronounce it??
― Hollinger Escape Plan (Leee), Monday, 23 February 2015 23:57 (eleven years ago)
Or better yet how does she pronounce it?
I've always said Tim-Min-Nee, but I could be wrong.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 00:06 (eleven years ago)
When I saw Mary do a solo show way back when, it was pronounced Tim-uh-nee. Pretty sure I heard an interview/review of Ex Hex on NPR where they said Tim-uh-nee too.

Ah, NPR online video streaming tonight's show in DC (I see upthread). Going to Wednesday's DC show

Cool.
Why did they feel the need to get a fourth person on stage? I never felt they were lacking.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 03:21 (eleven years ago)
Well that was fucking great. Seemed like it took 2-3 songs to achieve lift-off, but they played so many more, almost non-stop (a four-five song encore, after the only break) Most if not all of the new album, plus "One Beat," "Dig Me Out," "Modern Girl," etc etc. Will be archived "maybe tomorrow, this week for sure."Katie Harken added just a bit of guitar, organ, harmony, a sprinkling of live "overdubs," as they appear on record (not really so noticeable, but maybe a reassuring placebo effect for a band what hasn't toured in like a decade)
― dow, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 04:03 (eleven years ago)
Good lord that live show/stream filled me with as many feels as being there on Sunday. So glad to hear "Little Babies" and "Turn It On" too.
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 04:05 (eleven years ago)
I don't think I've ever seen Carrie in a skirt or heels, much less both at the same time.
Corin's voice has an almost palpable shape to it, can't wait to see them in May. I predict I will cry during "Turn It On."
― Godsleee You Black Emperor (Leee), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 04:32 (eleven years ago)

so stoked
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 22:14 (eleven years ago)
I was there too (second night at 930 Club). Good time mostly (some songs sounded kinded samey and dragged)
― curmudgeon, Thursday, 26 February 2015 15:30 (eleven years ago)
I just saw them in NY for probably the 15th time, but first time in a decade. They sounded absolutely fantastic, have not lost a step at all. Janet Weiss is a fucking powerhouse. If anything, she's even better now.

Janet playing harmonica with the Neil Young thing while playing drums is pretty amazing from a cardiovascular perspective
― kurt kobaïan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 27 February 2015 15:21 (eleven years ago)
Saw them last night as well. My main takeaway: they just have so many kickass songs, each one slayed.
― quan voice (voodoo chili), Friday, 27 February 2015 15:35 (eleven years ago)
A rare and thrilling live experience to hear 25 great songs played with the energy they had yesterday.
― quan voice (voodoo chili), Friday, 27 February 2015 15:36 (eleven years ago)
The sound mix on the video from the Seth Meyers show is awful - you can barely hear Carrie playing. "Price Tag" is probably the worst song on the new album anyway...
― Kiarostami bag (milo z), Friday, 27 February 2015 17:04 (eleven years ago)
No way, I love "Price Tag," "Gimme Love" is worse.
― Godsleee You Black Emperor (Leee), Friday, 27 February 2015 17:52 (eleven years ago)
Gimme Love is awesome. There isn't a bad song on that record. Get the shit out of your ears.
― how's life, Friday, 27 February 2015 17:55 (eleven years ago)
Gimme love live was one the best things and made me appreciate the song even more.
I've found it interesting how the newer songs, as well as the ones from the woods, really sound amazing in these larger venues (ie 1000+ people instead of 100-500 people). In contrast, "get up" now sounds rather chilled out, relaxed, and on a smaller scale.
