i think the black faux hawk trend was really just an outgrowth of the white fratboy faux hawk trend that preceded it by 5 years...like a lot of other Kanye-endorsed urban music fashion trends, actually.

a black hole of energy and cheer (some dude), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 03:49 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i think that's pretty plausible. the fauxhawk def. started as an LA pretty boy, nylon magazine/MTV reality show look a couple year before the shop boyz lineage fauxhawk

a black hole of energy and cheer (some dude), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 03:51 (seventeen years ago)

as a staple of black culture it seems way more current to me than 5 years ago

Hoos Passansteeno (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 03:52 (seventeen years ago)

im not asking about fauxhawks on white ppl or else i would've bumped the politics of messenger bags thread

Hoos Passansteeno (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 03:53 (seventeen years ago)

no i mean it's been a staple of white douchebags for at least 5 years longer than it's been a staple of black douchebags

kid cutty (some dude), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 03:53 (seventeen years ago)

I can't recall Kanye w/ a hawk. Seems he's rocking w/ the mullets. :/

xxxxx that dude's even got wallet chain! see hiphop influenced fashion trend circa 07/08 skull studded belt not pictured

preview& potmXII& chinchillas& surfboar (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 03:55 (seventeen years ago)

well the kanye mullet was kind of a mohawk. but yeah he's not really the best trendwhore to pin that particular trend on.

kid cutty (some dude), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 03:57 (seventeen years ago)

a great example of this: Chrome Hearts jewelry showing up all over the "Ballin" video a good 2-3 years after it had already become a little played out as white dude douche-bling

i have nothing to say about r&b.

preview& potmXII& chinchillas& surfboar (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

white dude douche-bling is a good phrase

Hoos Passansteeno (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 03:59 (seventeen years ago)

ed hardy = white dude douche-bling for your torso

preview& potmXII& chinchillas& surfboar (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 04:00 (seventeen years ago)

i was on south beach tonight and saw so many ppl wearing ed hardy, made we wanna get all ted bundy

Hoos Passansteeno (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

obv douche's were whatever whatever but i wanted to shake every 48 year old w/ a 25 year old on his arm and be like "THIS ISN'T COOL— PEOPLE DON'T THINK YOU LOOK COOL. YOU HAVE TURQUOISE FOIL ON YOUR SHIRT"

Hoos Passansteeno (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 04:04 (seventeen years ago)

i thought "swag" moved into annoying "i'd hit that"/"bling" parlez with 'swagger like us', personally; just another sin to lay at Kanye's feet.

preview& potmXII& chinchillas& surfboar (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 04:12 (seventeen years ago)

why are you laying this all at the feet of the Shop Boyz anyway? none of them even had mohawks!

kid cutty (some dude), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 04:14 (seventeen years ago)

i just assumed

Hoos Passansteeno (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 04:16 (seventeen years ago)

lol at wikipedia

Sometimes, terms like what the dilly, yo are popularized by a single song (in this case, "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See" by Busta Rhymes) and are only used briefly. Of special importance is the rule-based slang of Snoop Dogg and E-40, who add -izz to the middle of words so that shit becomes shizznit (the addition of the n occurs occasionally as well).

Hoos Passansteeno (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 04:18 (seventeen years ago)

The Keri Hilson album has been doing a good job of keeping me from overplaying the new Dream. It feels a bit unexceptional maybe, but I'm still enjoying it (with the exception of Akon's awful, throaty yelps on Change Me). Slow Dance and Make Love stand out especially. Make Love is like some absurdly overblown Diane Warren-type shit but wow, it works.

lou, Thursday, 26 March 2009 14:58 (seventeen years ago)

Honestly I've been listening to Keri and J Holiday way more than Dream.

no holleration in this dancerie (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 26 March 2009 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

wow i need a gif of keri and wayne miming a pitcher/batter interatcion on kimmel

b/w seeing this and discovery that flo-rida's single samples "i'm blue" it's rly been a banner night for the lolz over here

btw hilson swings so wildly between dope swagger and corniest chick ever on stage, it's so jarring

weeks i waited, razor at wrist, knowing any minute now brainwasher would arrive with cloak & scythe to big up "my girl melanie fiona". but my redeemer never came.

and oh hellz no this bitch did not just jack 'silly games' for her tired-ass jazmine sullivan business model! sit the fuck down already.

r|t|c, Monday, 30 March 2009 12:50 (seventeen years ago)

also dearest thread, there is to be no weaselling out of being held accountable for like 2 years of nonsensical hypemannery in the wake of keri's album being grim trash. (god polow how i hate what you have become!) (i like 'alienated' ok though.)

nor is "hmm i like roast dinners BUT ALSO POPCORN??!?!?!" gonna really wash as any sort of insight wrt scoring points off love vs money - that shit worked better on the jamie foxx thread for a start.

r|t|c, Monday, 30 March 2009 13:12 (seventeen years ago)

yeah "Alienated" is my pick from that one too. haven't really absorbed the album for better or worse yet though.

the worst breed of fong (some dude), Monday, 30 March 2009 13:14 (seventeen years ago)

pity 'alienated' isnt a proper cassie song actually, keri seems too leathery for it almost.

r|t|c, Monday, 30 March 2009 13:18 (seventeen years ago)

(in the context of the rest of the record, at least.)

i. the missy album? - why on earth care! (but, i will stand by 'best best')
ii. the rubbish band? - still wasting their very handy drummer!
iii. the lisa left eye jam? - in a bargain bin near you, run and get that shit!!

r|t|c, Monday, 30 March 2009 13:34 (seventeen years ago)

knive k (k3vin k.), Monday, 30 March 2009 14:04 (seventeen years ago)

I think my fav thing on the Keri album now is the corny as hell but wonderful "got a lot of girls on their do do do do doo" bit on "Intuition".

maciej recognizing trill, Monday, 30 March 2009 14:45 (seventeen years ago)

btw hilson swings so wildly between dope swagger and corniest chick ever on stage, it's so jarring

i know right! think it boils down to: her arm and upper body movements are fierce; her legwork is gawky and when she has nothing to do she just ends up standing there looking awkward. and like terius she should keep the shades on.

am jamming the 'turnin' me on' remix more than anything on the album so far...

lex pretend, Monday, 30 March 2009 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

Keri is just proof the the songwriter-to-artist transition always has its awkward bumps in the road, even if you look better in front of a camera than Sean Garrett. And seriously, at her stiffest and corniest she still comes across with more personality than all the dead-behind-the-eyes Cassies and Ciaras y'all are always trying to pinocchio into real girls.

the worst breed of fong (some dude), Monday, 30 March 2009 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

i would kick it with hilson before ciara or cassie, im just saying it's funny

tweet me 911 (J0rdan S.), Monday, 30 March 2009 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

it's also funny cuz she's always got this super confident face on even tho she looks ridiculous half the time, compare this to cassie who bombed on 106 & park but was kinda embarrassed about it so i felt bad.

tweet me 911 (J0rdan S.), Monday, 30 March 2009 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

yeah...kinda reminds me of Ne-Yo's half-assed MJ stage moves, which he does in videos way more than he should or needs to but still kinda shrugs and admits he's not a dancer like Chris Brown or whoever
