i have mired them in controversy for not featuring young thug, huge oversight, unacceptable

i also like that the system rewards enthusiasm rather than bottom-of-ballot consensus (contra what some seem to think). nicki minaj was #77 with 5 votes, presumably all high; whereas 6 votes, presumably all low, only got route 94 to #264.

it is! i literally spent a whole day going through the entire ILX list of lists and i became obsessed

v happy about "2 on" and "vermillion" placing in the top 10. i was one of the people who gave the latter a [10] on TSJ. it has come to represent the past 2 years of my life, so that's why i find it so precisely resonant and painfully relatable

i've been known to get way 2 on dancing to 2 on in the club, it's such a wonderful song

41-60 the only disappointing day of the rollout imo (there's always at least one). I don't like about half of the top 20, but it's not the top 20 I expected so that's always cool.

All in all, though, I guess the poll has confirmed that 2014 in general just wasn't the year for me.

This "Skating Beats" thing is dope and better than most of the dance music that placed.

I actually like this list better than last year's, but I know that's just because it better flatters things I know and/or like. Either way, I like the exercise. I think this is as good a slice of 2014 as anyone's going to find anywhere. Thanks to all involved.

I feel like these results accurately reflect what a good year it was for rap and what a bad year it was for not-rap.
