ritual anti indie puffing >>> weird empirical claims abt songwriting/production

there is a style of talking about songcraft on ILM that has always been totally opaque to me and "weird empirical claims" is a good way to put it

worried he has succumbed to the influenza

ilx should have a house ska band that covers every song on the top 77 every year

never forget:

Bosstones, Inventors of Ska

out of the 3 that i think will be in the top 3, the one that will probably be #1 is definitely the most boring choice. i like all 3 songs, but i'm rooting for the other 2 to win, even though odds are not stacked in their favor.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:37 (eleven years ago)

:( the winner will almost assuredly be boring now

dyl, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:37 (eleven years ago)

Boring or not, I'll like it 300% more than this.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:38 (eleven years ago)

i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:38 (eleven years ago)

pretty sure those indie songs got roughly as many negative opinions as eg the british rap songs, as I said earlier the projected coprolepsy on the part of pop squares seems weirdly important to fans of certain types of music but it isn't really borne out by the actual thread?

Oof. I was the first place vote and was pulling for it. I'm officially joining #teamtinache. "2 Weeks" is great but has no life outside of the album for me.

The Reverend, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:39 (eleven years ago)

conceding defeat to team flex zone and it feels fine

out here like a flopson (tpp), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:39 (eleven years ago)

"2 on" would be a great winner imo, it was my favorite song of the year for at least three months

Let the indie fans have their persecution complex.

lyrically it's kind of a boring outing for Thug

131 tracks ballots.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:43 (eleven years ago)

thank you

ciderpress, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:44 (eleven years ago)

well at this point i guess i'm pretty excited to know what #78 was.

billstevejim, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:44 (eleven years ago)

my #2 iirc? or #3. probably the song that got into my head the most all year

goole, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:44 (eleven years ago)

in my mind 'no flex zone' is a real throwback to the golden age of fruity swag anthems but actually whenever i listen to it again the production is way too sci-fi for that era

out here like a flopson (tpp), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:44 (eleven years ago)

The only rap track in the top 20 I will fuck with is Vic Mensa, and it seems quite an outlier among the goon crew. Not surprising I guess.
