Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:07 (eleven years ago)

Thank fuck that's out of the way.

Matt DC, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:07 (eleven years ago)

this song is mostly fine, honestly

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:07 (eleven years ago)

Love this song but kind of relieved to see it not win. The outrage would have been too much.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:07 (eleven years ago)

oh look pro rock critics lurking and voting

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:07 (eleven years ago)

I guess this band gets some kind of underdog/sympathy vote? idgi

the top 40 is just the sound of autotuned crying (sleeve), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:08 (eleven years ago)

would ilm have imploded if the poll's #1 mirrored p4k and pazz & jop?

i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:08 (eleven years ago)

dyl, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:08 (eleven years ago)

we survived Racoon and Banaka.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

Twigs to win this now, if only because the voting constituency is so wide and it's so obviously the rallying point on the album.

Matt DC, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

i really don't get anyone hating this song. it's just a really good 80's song

flopson, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

love this song, love this band but was still surprised at year-end-list hivemind on it

my #3 (my #1 and #2 didnt place)

gr8080, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

was listening and wondering why this is controversial (then i looked at the pitchfork/pazz jop stats)

out here like a flopson (tpp), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

better this than the wart on nuts

The Reverend, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)

I don't mind "Seasons" but it would've been better with Young Thug singing.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)

one could argue that we should take it as a triumph that the top "indie rock" song of the year is ripped straight from 80s synthpop

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)

otm xp

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)

it's so beautiful

flopson, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)

Really it's more of a 60s pop ballad with 80s production than an 80s song.

The Reverend, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)

Come back QT all is forgiven.

the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)

does the guy not do his weird growl on record? cuz that was a big/weird-but-at-least-distinctive part of that live performance

dyl, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)

did "Seasons" win the 2014 Spot the Influence award? Fine Young Cannibals! Wang Chung! I think Destroyer's album marked the last time so many referents were thrown against the wall.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)

On time for the top three :-D

a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)

it's a fine song, i just remain baffled by how so many sites/lists/whatever posited it as THE representative song of the year

i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)

Still not bored of Seasons despite playing it over and over most of the year. It's just such a beautiful song.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:12 (eleven years ago)

does the guy not do his weird growl on record?

he totally does. studio version of "seasons" is v subdued in this respect though

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:12 (eleven years ago)

Jordan that would make more sense if the 80s synthpop revival hadn't now been going on for longer than the actual 80s did.

I think of it as an old school Disney crooning ballad with a synthpop motor underneath it, there's something very innocent but also very corny about it.

Matt DC, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:12 (eleven years ago)

innnteresting. i don't think i agree tho, the chord progression is straight 80's

abcfsk, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:13 (eleven years ago)

Matt, that's the best description I've read!

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:13 (eleven years ago)

I don't get the consensus on this one, it's an alright song but it doesn't scream 'indie anthem' like say 'All my friends' or some of those early Arcade Fire songs where I could understand where all the love was coming from. This just feels very derivative to me definitely not a top 10 song.

the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:13 (eleven years ago)

this song is nice

Letterman said it was THE representative song of the year?

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:13 (eleven years ago)

it's ok, i've come around on this, i like the singing quite a lot. and the orchestration is pretty rote at this point.

xps get on letterman with this one weird growl

goole, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:14 (eleven years ago)

the whole album is so good big hearted strange expansive sad and jammy

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:14 (eleven years ago)

dyl, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:14 (eleven years ago)

musicianship arrangements productions etc are all really on point and seamless

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:15 (eleven years ago)

Az. Banks will do well on albums but there never seemed to be any consensus about what the best tracks on her album other than "212" were.

OTM

I predict Banks will be in top 10 albums

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:15 (eleven years ago)

Like every time I hear this I hear Elton John singing it in his hammiest possible way and I can't get that out of my head, I actually liked it at first but I could quite happily never hear it again.
