Jordan otm about Quan's verse tying everything together. He's totally the heart of (this incarnation of) Rich Gang.
I voted for way more rap than r&b on tracks this year. Oh well.

Az. Banks will do well on albums but there never seemed to be any consensus about what the best tracks on her album other than "212" were.
Fancy is #78 with a bullet, is my guess.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:02 (eleven years ago)
"lifestyle" another song that makes me irrationally happy
― dyl, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:02 (eleven years ago)
this year any of "bang bang" "problem" "love me harder" "fancy" could have conceivably placed. last year it was "the way" "baby i" "piano" :( all missing out

Also it bears mentioning that the production is totally late-90s west coast.

Yeah the album was well-received but Chasing Time was definitely the 'consensus' pick I think? It did well in the singles jukebox and on the Azealia thread I think it was the most mentioned single. Definitely didn't expect her to place below Tkay and Shamir in the hip house front.
― the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:04 (eleven years ago)
i don't see azealia making it this high

this song is mostly fine, honestly

Love this song but kind of relieved to see it not win. The outrage would have been too much.

Twigs to win this now, if only because the voting constituency is so wide and it's so obviously the rallying point on the album.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)
i really don't get anyone hating this song. it's just a really good 80's song
― flopson, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)
love this song, love this band but was still surprised at year-end-list hivemind on it
my #3 (my #1 and #2 didnt place)

I don't mind "Seasons" but it would've been better with Young Thug singing.
― guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)
one could argue that we should take it as a triumph that the top "indie rock" song of the year is ripped straight from 80s synthpop
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)
otm xp
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)
it's so beautiful
― flopson, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)
Really it's more of a 60s pop ballad with 80s production than an 80s song.
― The Reverend, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)
Come back QT all is forgiven.
― the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)
does the guy not do his weird growl on record? cuz that was a big/weird-but-at-least-distinctive part of that live performance
― dyl, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)
did "Seasons" win the 2014 Spot the Influence award? Fine Young Cannibals! Wang Chung! I think Destroyer's album marked the last time so many referents were thrown against the wall.

it's a fine song, i just remain baffled by how so many sites/lists/whatever posited it as THE representative song of the year
― i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)
Still not bored of Seasons despite playing it over and over most of the year. It's just such a beautiful song.
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:12 (eleven years ago)
does the guy not do his weird growl on record?
he totally does. studio version of "seasons" is v subdued in this respect though
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 20:12 (eleven years ago)
Jordan that would make more sense if the 80s synthpop revival hadn't now been going on for longer than the actual 80s did.
I think of it as an old school Disney crooning ballad with a synthpop motor underneath it, there's something very innocent but also very corny about it.
