this song is i n c r e d i b l e

the guitar sound alone, as brad has noted

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:16 (eleven years ago)

love the italo bassline

gr8080, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:17 (eleven years ago)

Rev - I'm mostly making a point about what is and isn't considered a parochial concern here.

Matt DC, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:17 (eleven years ago)

Matt DC otm. You could call half the music in this thread 'fashion chain' music if you wanted.

Would def listen to a "fashion chain" playlist.

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:19 (eleven years ago)

my mom watches a lot of fashion shows and asked me to buy her albums by Lone and Disclosure after hearing some of their music in a couple of them

LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:20 (eleven years ago)

Doubt there is more 'for British ears only' in the list than usual

nashwan, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:20 (eleven years ago)

a song by my fav singer about my biggest celebrity crush that channels my fav band.

i've never felt more targeted in my life.

prolego, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:20 (eleven years ago)

Heard two of my nominations for the first time in TK Maxx so that gives them a better strike rate than any radio station this year.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:20 (eleven years ago)

I'm not exactly a Taylor Swift fan but this song is really great. gr8080 is right about that italo bassline, it makes the song.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:21 (eleven years ago)

Funny that I never really grokked the dorkiness of "Rather Be" (despite the Pentatonix cover); to my ears, it's "hip UK dance-pop" in the same vein of Disclosure, Duke Dumont, etc.

I've come around in a big way to that one disclosure song, heard it all the time on r&b radio and it sounded so great in that context

JUST TAKE ME HOME

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:22 (eleven years ago)

omar's mom sounds pretty chill

mh, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:22 (eleven years ago)

I find TSwift irrationally irritating, but I will say the 80s movie credits song production on this actually fits her steez unlike the other three tracks that have placed

rob, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:22 (eleven years ago)

a song by my fav singer about my biggest celebrity crush that channels my fav band.

And which band would that be?

MarkoP, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:23 (eleven years ago)

is this about harry styles?

rob, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:23 (eleven years ago)

Also this song was absolutely massive right around the world which is more than you can say about all the wonky voiced Soundcloud rap in this list.

Well it's not as if top 40 radio in the US plays massively popular rap songs either, but you know what? FUCK TOP 40.

― The Reverend, Thursday, January 22, 2015 1:13 PM (8 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

it's almost there's been an intense well documented effort to whitewash the US charts and top 40

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:23 (eleven years ago)

For 2015, we're substituting the nominations process for the playlists of the top 20 clothing retailers.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:23 (eleven years ago)

Gawd, what passes for mainstream pop at this point is so completely anathema to me I can't take it.

The Reverend, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:24 (eleven years ago)

I would vote in that poll xp

mh, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:24 (eleven years ago)

or even better, fashion week runway music

mh, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:24 (eleven years ago)

No its about Psy, the Gangnam Style dude, hence the title.

All The Craigers Gonna Craig Craig Craig Craig Craig (Craigo Boingo), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:24 (eleven years ago)

i hope the reason this isnt a single yet is bc they're waiting for Nicolas Winding Refn to agree to direct a video

gr8080, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:25 (eleven years ago)

pstyle

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:25 (eleven years ago)

Damn, I love Style, people mentioned the guitar, but her singing is what makes it stand out from the rest of the record.

quan voice (voodoo chili), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:25 (eleven years ago)

Style my #1, second verse highlight of her career imo

droit au butt (Euler), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:25 (eleven years ago)

the second verse when the mutual bearding unravels <3

prolego, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:26 (eleven years ago)

Everything about Style is like custom made for my tastes, except the lyrics which are completely stupid.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:26 (eleven years ago)

I can only imagine (literally) what will fill out the rest of this list

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:26 (eleven years ago)

any chance of new romantics placing?

nothing but rap and country (diamonddave85), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:27 (eleven years ago)

The Reverend, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:27 (eleven years ago)

all these t-swift songs seem fine i guess, i dunno. that young t-hova "habits" song seemed way better

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:28 (eleven years ago)

Everything about Style is like custom made for my tastes, except the lyrics which are completely stupid.

hey this is how i feel about "habits"!

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:29 (eleven years ago)

but yeah i will never understand the fascination w/her

like modern country and pop isn't necessarily my bad but w/ "quarterback" or kacey musgraves (last year already?) i can at least hear what the fuss is about, ditto for a lot of the pop singles that make these lists

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:29 (eleven years ago)

Guitar yes, Italo bassline yes, lyrics no.

Minaj moron (Re-Make/Re-Model), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:30 (eleven years ago)

I really honestly thought "Love 'Em All" would do great in this poll, but it's def not going to be in the top 5. I am sad.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:30 (eleven years ago)

gonna laff so hard if Seasons is #1

example (crüt), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:30 (eleven years ago)

Right, me too.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:30 (eleven years ago)

Mmmm color me surprised I don't hate this Swift joint one minute in.

the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:30 (eleven years ago)

Thought Style was a shoe in for Top 5

groovypanda, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:31 (eleven years ago)

jessie ware - "tough love" is a really good song

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:32 (eleven years ago)

yeah i def slept on jessie ware this year. love both songs that placed

out here like a flopson (tpp), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:33 (eleven years ago)

Ok, finished listening. I liked the backing track. It was really good, sort of italo-disco in the verses then it goes to Gap in the chorus, you can't have it all. I can't stand the lyrics and there's something really annoying about her vocalization for me, she's too squeaky or something. I think I agree with the sentiment that whatever she's going for Sofi de la Torre and Tove Lo made it better this year.

the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:34 (eleven years ago)

yeah i def slept on jessie ware this year

#braggin

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:34 (eleven years ago)

"Style" is definitely my favorite song from the album proper. Happy that it's the next single. With bonus tracks included, though, it has stiff competition from "New Romantics."

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:35 (eleven years ago)

i have no idea how anyone misheard the line as "starbucks lovers" which wouldn't even have made grammatical sense

― lex pretend, Thursday, January 22, 2015 1:23 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

i had not even once considered that the lyric WASN'T starbucks lovers, i thought that was hilarious & kind of awesome and now i'm disappointed. what is it, starstruck?

flopson, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:37 (eleven years ago)

list of ex

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:37 (eleven years ago)
