I think the Singles Jukebox has shaped this list quite a lot over the last couple of years actually, to the better. Like there's this parallel hive mind with a load of voters over here and it's helped spring a lot of surprises, tracks with a big following but seemingly little ILM buzz.

Gone 180 on Blank Space and now I love itg, but I voted for Out of the Woods.

holy shit I have never noticed that! I love this song EVEN MORE

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:35 (eleven years ago)

i also love the way she sings "boyyyyyyys"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:35 (eleven years ago)

No matter my personal feelings on any song in the top 77, I love them each for keeping out Rude, All About That Bass and/or Fancy.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:35 (eleven years ago)

In the context of the album, the first two songs were always just setting up tracks 3&4 for me.

Indexed, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:36 (eleven years ago)

deeply regret not voting for "rude"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:36 (eleven years ago)

Lol I just watched the Sofi de la Torre video and the ad for it was that horrible Xmas Jammies family doing some kind of super bowl party rap.

Probably made the song sound slightly better by comparison.

Yoga Knives (Whitey on the Moon), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:37 (eleven years ago)

xxxp idk I have an unsettling feeling that Iggy Azalea is gonna show up soon

example (crüt), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:37 (eleven years ago)

It's supposed to say 'all my ex lovers' no?

I'm hearing starbecks lovers. I hate bourgueoise idealism videos.

This song is the most boring TS that has placed so far. I prefer the one that sounds like kare bush or cheerleader school.

the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:38 (eleven years ago)

well, lots of Singles Jukebox members and ILMers overlap.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:38 (eleven years ago)

she's a Battlestar Galactica fan.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:39 (eleven years ago)

The actual line is "Got a long list of ex lovers"

MarkoP, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:40 (eleven years ago)

i feel like there has always been a big tsj/ilm overlap in terms of membership but even so many of the songs that did very well over at tsj did nothing over here

dyl, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:40 (eleven years ago)

i think she actually says "long list of ex-lovers"?

Indexed, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:40 (eleven years ago)

blank space is fine, i always thought it was a lil too cutesy the player/game lines, kinda reminded me of that kasey musgraves song that uses 'mary/merry' 6 diff ways idk its offputting to me, that plus the halting delivery doesn't quite work for me, i agree there're abt 8 better songs on 1989 including shake it off

johnny crunch, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:41 (eleven years ago)

FWIW Blank Space is the first TS song I've ever put on intentionally. It's not exactly good but it's catchy in a more purely pop way than like Trouble. Haven't heard Style yet.

Yoga Knives (Whitey on the Moon), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:42 (eleven years ago)

Yeah Shake It Off is way better than this

, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:42 (eleven years ago)

I think she does but were is the R sound coming from? I don't want to listen to it again.

the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:42 (eleven years ago)

Style is hte one where I was genuinely puzzled by all the admiration from TS stans

, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:42 (eleven years ago)

and yeah I couldn't not hear Starbucks lovers until like the 20th listen

Yoga Knives (Whitey on the Moon), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:42 (eleven years ago)

well that's silly, listen to the guitar xpost

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:43 (eleven years ago)

Do you know what she said? "Gunga galunga. Gunga gunga lagunga."

how's life, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:43 (eleven years ago)

q: the blank space in the song - does that refer to swift writing a bunch of breakup songs and leaving a blank space for the person's name so that they're all ready to go the next time a relationship collapses?

Mordy, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:43 (eleven years ago)

No it's about the blank space at the top of a Starbucks cup - she's a barista in the song

, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:44 (eleven years ago)

A pretty face and an average voice will take you places.

the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:44 (eleven years ago)

Shake It Off is totally different! Breaks up the record nicely, would get a bit samey without it despite the greatness of the middle run.

All The Craigers Gonna Craig Craig Craig Craig Craig (Craigo Boingo), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:44 (eleven years ago)

what makes style is the guitar line obviously

dyl, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:44 (eleven years ago)

Boys only want cups with a tortilla / Don't say I didn't warn ya

All The Craigers Gonna Craig Craig Craig Craig Craig (Craigo Boingo), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:45 (eleven years ago)

Agree with J0rdan S. on "Blank Space." I don't hate it, it just sounds sort of generic.

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:45 (eleven years ago)

lol xp

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:46 (eleven years ago)

Got to say that for an 11min squally folk epic with terrible singing about alcoholism that Richard Dawson song is actually really stealthily catchy. Like the melody really stuck in my head.

johnny crunch, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:49 (eleven years ago)

gr8080, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:49 (eleven years ago)

this song is

1) corny
2) highly enjoyable

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:49 (eleven years ago)

vermillion is nice. she lists the singles jukebox review on her www

||||||||, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)

This song is good, but I never knew what they looked like before now. Definitely a detriment.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)

My number 1. It's just such a perfectly produced song and it ruled my summer (and my autumn nd a good chunk of my winter). Love the way the initial violin vamp gets passed on from instrument to instrument as the song goes on. Love 'we never hesitate/kyoto to du-bay'. Love the 'DUN-DUN' piano just before the chorus. Love it all.

I liked this when it came out a year ago but it has had serious diminishing returns.

the QT conundrum (Moka), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)

The photo choices have been excellent.

Indexed, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)

this song seems to have some p fun beeps and boops I guess

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)

the guy in the far right

1) is cute
2) is playing an Astroturf violin

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)

deej did you vote this year?

out here like a flopson (tpp), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:51 (eleven years ago)

also some fun clicky clacks

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:51 (eleven years ago)

Did not get the hype for this the first time I heard it but after hearing out a fair bit throughout the year it crept up on me and has become one of my favourite songs of the year. Still really surprised just how big it was in the UK. It's already one of the 50 best selling singles ever there.
