This Tove Lo thing is the worst song in the top 20 that isn't German Whip, just totally nothingy.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:07 (eleven years ago)
Pleasantly suprised this placed. Obviously huge overlap with the "Solo Dancing" demographic, thanks to TSJ.
Would never have guessed she's Spanish from the diction. From the Canary islands via University of London.

i'm listening to the 2013 playlist right now and idk it just feels like it was a better year
I def feel like I got more out of the 2013 list than I have with this one so far.
― Roz, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:07 (eleven years ago)
its her estranged boyfriend she calls him and is all im inside the store come get me so she can steal the car whiles hes in there, she steals it because she need to get out of there man, tho tbh he seems more of a wait in the car for her to come out type to me
Ahhhhh... a bit slow on the uptake over here.

TDFW: at some point this winter i had one of those moments where i was alone in my apartment doing whatever and all of a sudden i bust out in a comedy french accent “TURN DOWN POR QUOI!!” completely unbidden and cracked myself up. cabin fever gets pretty crazy. great song, will always love.
“can’t do without you”: not much to say. love this guy’s earlier stuff, and this isn’t as good.
“hot nigga”: pandemic otm
“german whip”: “guys better show respect if they see man pullin’ up in a TT/ guys better show respect if they see man filling up in BP/ 20 pound of diesel mate/ if i fill up the tank, it’ll make me late” is he on a kid’s show?
tove lo: w/e
skepta & JME: i’m really sorry i’m hearing this for the first time right now. w/o question the best *video* of the whole run too. “from day one i said i was serious then serious hit the jackpot/ people ask what music i make, turn the volume up ‘cos that’s what” lmao awesome
richard dawson: great guitar playing. sure is a lot of it, and a lot of singing and lyrics to go along with it!
“move that dope”: bboo bomp brrr bom booormm boo bbbrrrrrrmmmm
kiesza: idk, a little over-schooled maybe?
“no type”: i love how there’s this grim booming funereal track about what kind of girls he’s into and everybody on earth just went with it.
vic mensa: no idea who or what this is, but hey, hip house (kind of)! apart from being, like, good, it seems really “accomplished” in a way that works (the kiesza compares unfavorably)

my thoughts & prayers are with anyone who doesn't like "german whip"
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:08 (eleven years ago)
i also like that a singles jukebox 'hit' actually managed to do at least something on p&j/here etc., most of the time the songs they all get excited about that have no critical traction or promotion elsewhere are roundly ignored
― dyl, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:08 (eleven years ago)
Robyn meets M83 isn't my favourite sound I think
― seandalai, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:09 (eleven years ago)
the other way to look at "vermillion" is that it's an english language javiera mena song
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:09 (eleven years ago)
vermillion is such an uncool word, idk if i can deal with a song called vermillion
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:09 (eleven years ago)

― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:11 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, the track is not so obviously JUST about a break up. That's the part that confused me a bit re: the video. The sense of alienation and nostalgia that bigger or about more than just a relationship ending. If it's about the latter, it's the very tail end...

I just remembered my wife's first reaction to the song -- "What is with the eating and puking in the bathtub? Is that some heartbreak cliche I don't know about? Do people do that?"

ooh that means one of the 9 remaining "dead certs" as outlined by matt dc has missed the 77, hope it's "seasons"!
But I thought he listed 7 dead certs (No Flex Zone, Rather Be, Two Weeks, Style, Blank Space, Seasons, 2 On), and we have 8 more tracks to go. Or am I missing something?

Vermillion might also be a place, fyi.
― MikoMcha, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:21 (eleven years ago)
too low
― Mordy, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:21 (eleven years ago)

― call all destroyer, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:23 (eleven years ago)
yeah Vemillion, which is better than I'd remembered, is clearly a testament to TSJ's influence on ILM
― rob, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:23 (eleven years ago)
if blank space places this high i assume style (which was my only tswift vote) places in the top 3
― i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:23 (eleven years ago)
i have no idea how anyone misheard the line as "starbucks lovers" which wouldn't even have made grammatical sense
one of my initial favourites off the swift album that's fallen slightly in my estimation since but which is still a very excellent pop song
― lex pretend, Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:23 (eleven years ago)
i thought this was a bad song and one of her worst singles for a bit but the songwriting is pretty incredible
still wish it had a "sound" ... i don't really understand what it's supposed to be, but that's a small potatoes critique
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 January 2015 18:24 (eleven years ago)
How is this better than Shake It Off? IDGI and I doubt I'll ever get Taylor Swift.

to my Afro-Cuban ears attuned to coffee 'n' cigarettes it sounds like Starbucks lovers
