Fantastic song. For some reason I missed it on the nominations thread otherwise it would have been in my top 10.

oh i knew this was the singles jukebox's top 2014 track but i didn't really get why and most of the rest of its internet presence seems to be a remix

seems like a wispier and less resonant "solo dancing"

I have never heard of this artist or song.

Welcome to my entire thread experience. Well, about 70% of it.

This track is great, was waiting for it.

This sounds like a walking around an empty downtown on a Sunday night kind of song.

i's all about that moment when the beat drops out and it's just her voice and the piano going "I love these streets, I love these streets, but they weren’t meant for me to walk…”. gorgeous song imo.

This sounds like an intro in search of a song. I kept waiting for the song to actually start.

Heh, they're side-by-side on my Best of 2014 mix, and I don't entirely disagree with that assessment, but texture and mood count for a lot in my book.

I hadn't heard anyone outside of TSJ mention this song. Are there a lot of writers from there on ilm?

I like alright it but it doesn't sound like top 10 material for me, let alone best track of the year. This sort of sound was everywhere in 2014 and I can easily think of 3 tracks I like much better than this one.

there's a carefully constructed & well paced rush in "vermillion" imo that just strikes me as great songcraft

The video is baffling though, who's the scummy dude at the end? Why does steal his car?

the version on spotify has more pronounced guitar at the end iirc

i would say the chances of 'seasons' missing the top ten are nil

I should also say that I didn't love "Vermillion" right away -- it took a few listens to get under my skin.

this is a very urban track too, i think katherine made that point ... makes it resonate for me

i will also say that it took me several months of not caring about this song before i continually started searching it again on spotify and finally giving in

also the video is not very good, i think listening w/o the video actually helped me appreciate the song more lol

its her estranged boyfriend she calls him and is all im inside the store come get me so she can steal the car whiles hes in there, she steals it because she need to get out of there man, tho tbh he seems more of a wait in the car for her to come out type to me

it's the kind of song that i wouldn't be surprised snuck up on me but i feel no desire to actively seek it out again by myself

This Tove Lo thing is the worst song in the top 20 that isn't German Whip, just totally nothingy.

Pleasantly suprised this placed. Obviously huge overlap with the "Solo Dancing" demographic, thanks to TSJ.

Would never have guessed she's Spanish from the diction. From the Canary islands via University of London.

skepta & JME: i’m really sorry i’m hearing this for the first time right now. w/o question the best *video* of the whole run too. “from day one i said i was serious then serious hit the jackpot/ people ask what music i make, turn the volume up ‘cos that’s what” lmao awesome

richard dawson: great guitar playing. sure is a lot of it, and a lot of singing and lyrics to go along with it!

“move that dope”: bboo bomp brrr bom booormm boo bbbrrrrrrmmmm

kiesza: idk, a little over-schooled maybe?

“no type”: i love how there’s this grim booming funereal track about what kind of girls he’s into and everybody on earth just went with it.

vic mensa: no idea who or what this is, but hey, hip house (kind of)! apart from being, like, good, it seems really “accomplished” in a way that works (the kiesza compares unfavorably)

my thoughts & prayers are with anyone who doesn't like "german whip"

i also like that a singles jukebox 'hit' actually managed to do at least something on p&j/here etc., most of the time the songs they all get excited about that have no critical traction or promotion elsewhere are roundly ignored

Robyn meets M83 isn't my favourite sound I think

the other way to look at "vermillion" is that it's an english language javiera mena song
