"coming from a different place" was supposed to be rhetorical but, yeah...

I thought they said in an interview that one is 19 and other 'would prefer not to say' - presumably younger?

some stuff on Our Love could've been under his dancier Daphni alias - 'Tiberius' with Owen P was alright

No Type is my maybe 5th to place. I like how both RS singles are kind of mild disses against trad notions of masculinity. Obv I am assuming (prob wrongly) is against macho weightlifting (actually binh tells me it's more about just showing off, which still works) whereas No Type feels kind of a rejection of that gross byproduct of heteromale privilege, the Type. "What's your type?""Blonde, with long stems." Like girlfriends come in flavors or something. Obv "bad bitches is what I like" does not a male-feminist anthem make, but that shit is still worth calling out imo
xp I feel Sturgill's cover of The Promise could appear

Sorry didnt mean to sound stern, its just a fruitless exercise! It doesnt really make any difference what genre it is and recategorizing doesnt make it any different, and it definitely doesnt make it any better
― saer, Thursday, 22 January 2015 17:24 (eleven years ago)
xp "Hideaway" has been a mainstay on VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown for months and months. That's how I end up hearing a lot of mainstream pop I wouldn't normally come across. She's pretty good, but is it really a good idea to bring back acid-wash high-waisted jeans??? They make anyone who's not a 6'+ model look ridiculous.

20 DJ SNAKE & LIL JON "Turn Down For What" [290 points, 13 votes] it's not ok to not like this song
19 CARIBOU - "Can't Do Without You" [391 points, 12 votes, 2 first place votes] there are some good tracks on the album but the vocals on this one are really not ok
18 BOBBY SHMURDA "Hot Nigga" [397 points, 17 points] perfect song, fun video, tension never lets up and every line hits
17 MERIDIAN DAN - "German Whip" Ft. Big H & JME [414 points, 14 votes, 2 first place votes] woah, i love this! the raps are seriously FUN, cool flows, hilarious wordplay. and i am one of those ppl who front like they don't like british rap
16 TOVE LO "Habits (Stay High)" [420 points, 12 votes, 2 first place votes] this one's ok, another radio song i can now place a name to. had no idea it was about smoking weed, so that's cool
15 SKEPTA "That's Not Me" Ft. JME [459 points, 16 votes, 2 first place votes] preferred german whip to this. but this is good too
14 RICHARD DAWSON "The Vile Stuff" [468 points, 11 votes, 4 first place votes] the guitar is cool but the vocals and lyrics are way too ummm...
13 FUTURE "Move That Dope" Ft.ft. Pharrell Williams, Pusha T [470 points, 18 votes] good song that i haven't really thought of in... 8 months? great beat & hook but it comes short of classic status
12 KIESZA "Hideaway" [476 points, 18 votes] this is a good song, would have completely loved it if i had heard it on the radio, i guessed i missed its period of ubiquity? or maybe it was only a hit in the UK. i support 90's house revival
11 RAE SREMMURD "No Type" [481 points, 20 votes] listening to this song is even sweeter than winning 5$, luckily for me i now get to do both
10 VIC MENSA "Down On My Luck" [483 points, 18 votes, 1 first place vote] really good song. i never got obsessed with it but it's always a pleasure
― flopson, Thursday, 22 January 2015 17:37 (eleven years ago)

Perhaps. I never heard "Hideaway" on pop radio. Certainly nowhere else in the wild. Wouldn't have known about it if not for ILM/Singles Jukebox, probably.
― Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Thursday, 22 January 2015 17:39 (eleven years ago)
Would have placed Down on My Luck fairly high, since I voted for it a number of other polls, but somehow I forgot to vote for it.

― a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Thursday, 22 January 2015 17:40 (eleven years ago)
For someone who listened to 200+ new releases this year, and countless more singles, today has been a reminder why I visit ILM. I hadn't even heard of 5 of the 11 tracks so far. Not that into most of this stuff, but still very refreshing.
― Indexed, Thursday, 22 January 2015 17:41 (eleven years ago)
99% of my music listening in 2014 was on Spotify, and if a song wasn't on Spotify, I didn't really bother to seek it out. Occasionally, though, I'd look something up if I'd heard good things about it and was curious. "Down on My Luck" is probably my favorite song not on Spotify that I discovered in 2014.
