I disagree with that actually, German Whip feels like a track very much put together in the shadow of modern US rap, a grime tune from 10 years ago would've sounded nothing like this.

i just can't take british people rapping seriously, sorry

I don't think it was a novelty, I think it was a genuine underground hit, but it's a lot easier for those to turn into actual overground hits than it was a decade ago, for all sorts of reasons.

i think we know by now that imago thinks anything catchy or danceable is "novelty"

one of the people in the bobby schmurda video has got my jumper on! not particularly my thing as i dont like words or the sound of the human voice, but the sound palette was really quite reasonable, not a bad effort!

german whip, maybe i shouldnt have watched the video at the same time but it felt like a comedy sketch by those people on tv (i dont know their names but ive saw 5 seconds of them once)

not so much dicks as just pitifully parochial in the same way that british people who make a song and dance about not getting US rap or country are. all the more ludicrous to argue it on this particular board. no arguing with it, just feel sorry for them.

tbf i do think quite the raps in german whip are a bit embarrassing. the jme line i posted earlier is one example but there are more. still it was a big hit and good fun to rap along to.

Voted for it last year. The album is very good and i'd hope that would place.

cant stand the tove lo. theres been a few of these, incredibly plodding and then the chorus is blaring, and then its plodding again, just sounds like a person struggling with shopping bags uphill, anticipating being able to drink some juice, then they rest at the top of the hill and drink some juice, then they set off with the shopping again. dispiriting

pretty sure this could've passed itself off as lorde's follow-up to "royals" without anyone noticing. have heard the name tove lo around for years from the kind of people who love scandopop that never actually charts so it was a surprise that one finally did. doubt i'd ever mind it as such but i don't feel any connection either
