YT "stoner": i’m with lex on this one. the herky-jerkiness of it isn’t for me.

shift k3y: ok, doesn’t seem like much. digging around in shift k3y thread to see if there’s anything better…

indiana: ok, doesn’t seem like much.

“shake it off”: at this late hour i still don’t have strong opinions about taylor swift at all, isn’t that so interesting?? what exactly does she have to shake off?

no its becky: “civil war wave” tpp? lmao ahem that is “stomp campfire” to you sir. i think if they got rid of the acoustic guitar strum i’d really like it instead of kind of like it. like i can already hear the countless youtube acoustic covers in my head.

war on drugs: springsteen? c’mon this sounds like fucking dire straits! (ok alfred mentioned knopfler) i like dire straits! i always want indie bands to get big and hammy and emotional, thanks war on drugs! (“archie” made a big impression on me but i’ll probably never listen to this again) (ahem pt 2 flopson, young turks?? that was new wave as hell, that’s exactly what this is missing)

R&R “monument”: another one of these huh. sampled “oh” ascending scale is what makes it, not the sax. too damn long.

dej loaf: love it. great. totally love that there’s all these dudes lip syncing to this sweet voiced woman in the video

hodgson “babylon system”: this is one of the best things on the list so far without question

“tough love”: i sing along to this really loud in the car, hit back and do it again, though i drop it an octave, because i have to be a man about it.

“quarterback”: holy shit. disappointing that the video shows us a happy-ish ending that the song does not.

TI and YT: man i fell in love with this when i came out and then forgot about it, whoops! i love how TI sounds really choppy and chirpy at times and YT kind of smooths out (a little), like they’re really happy to be playing off each other (self reminder to pay more attn to london)

“riverbed” i need to get this

“out of the woods” ehhhhhhhh she can write a bridge tho

YT “danny glover” this is legit queasy and threatening, glad it placed higher than stoner

if only!

telling like hot takes (imago), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:48 (eleven years ago)

I wrote up a bunch of hot takes of the songs I'd never heard before but it was so negative and I deleted it. good work on the Javiera Mena track though! and "riverbed" was surprisingly badass. I thought I'd listened to that album but I will have to revisit

rob, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:49 (eleven years ago)

(voted for Hands Up but it's probably too 'conscious' for 2015 ILX) xp

lol @ "rae scrimmage"

the top 40 is just the sound of autotuned crying (sleeve), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:49 (eleven years ago)

I mean I like YT and Rae etc but so many high pitched rap! Need something with a deeper voice tbh

well known ilx clique xp

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:50 (eleven years ago)

I dig the TI/YT tracks production a lot but (-boring complaints about boring rap tropes redacted-) but that's got to be the cheapest-looking hip hop video for some time - guess that's how all about the money it is.

nashwan, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:51 (eleven years ago)

flopson, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:53 (eleven years ago)

almost forgot my most important take: the Indiana video is fucking stunningly bad, you should all watch it

rob, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:53 (eleven years ago)

spent a good part of 2014 singing 'danny glover' while drunk.

just catching up with some tracks.

I've def heard this ILOVEMAKKONEN thing before. It's interesting how unfussy this track is. The vocal sounds like it was done in one take.
I LOVE this Becky G song. Gorgeous!

surprising it's not top 20. really don't see "fancy" in this countdown now.

danzig, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:55 (eleven years ago)

Was wondering if rae sremmurd was rap's lynyrd skynyrd xp

, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:55 (eleven years ago)

wow, the charli song is low. I kind of prefer the Marcus Schlossow (sp?) mix which is very trancey and prob not to everyone's taste but I love the way it slows down half way through and speeds right back up.

wish i'd heard this javiera mena track in the summer. it would have been a top jam.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:58 (eleven years ago)

peace be upon you raccoon tanuki

goole, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:58 (eleven years ago)

owen pallett: for most of 2014 i deliberately avoided the album bc dude is one of my favourite posters, and people generally, and i was afraid i would not like it. i think dorian's raves made me finally check it out and it just wasn't for me, songs or voice or anything. i really tried and i felt bad about this

"out of the woods" - maybe the best middle 8 she's ever written. completely transcends the cheat sheet about harry styles she waved at the press, i wish people would stop asking her about her lovelife. WHEN THE SUN CAME UP YOU WERE LOOKING AT ME~~~~~~
i do have a slight issue with the cheapo electronic squiggles right at the song's climax, they really don't need to be there. this is till the 2nd or 3rd best song on the album though.

"danny glover" - i don't even like the nicki remix of this, is how much i dislike the song. i remembered it as being an autotune warble but people are right, it's not, his voice just sounds like that, which might make it even worse...his singing voice is so nails-down-blackboard quavery

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:59 (eleven years ago)

wish i'd heard this javiera mena track in the summer.

Don't think it was around then. LP came out in October.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:59 (eleven years ago)

Monument is good, Do It Again is serviceable, but Röyksopp sure sound more interesting when they're working with more interesting vocalists, Karin Dreijer back then and the always underrated Susanne Sundfør both last year and this year (and who should've had her own songs and her feat.'s this year on this list but will have neither -- hopefully this year's album will catch some folks attention) .

oh man, this Ana Tijoux track is amazing! I need more stuff like this.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 22:00 (eleven years ago)

Really excited to see Tkay show up (and someone put her at #1 meaning they like her more than me!) - having seen her live recently I can confirm that she has many more bangers in the vault. She's more or less an underground star here now and it's only a matter of time before she gets some international recognition. Her 30min Switch Tape mix is def worth a listen.

Tkay, D'Angelo, Kira, Shift K3y for me today which makes 10/25 so far - and I adore "Shower" and am embarrassed I forgot to vote for it. Glad to see a few things I don't know show up today. Perplexed by "Monument" placing which is imo deathly dull and interminable.

Boom Clap I like I guess but it is definitely Charli phoning things in to an extent, there are much more interesting things on the album

bae sremmurd (monotony), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 22:00 (eleven years ago)

i thought this was the charli xcx single that even charli xcx stans didn't like but i guess paying lip service to ~hits is a thing. it's sort of leaden to me. i don't get stanning for someone who is all potential and no actual uncomplicated easy greatness, her album isn't ever bad but the tryhardness shouldn't show as much as it does

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 22:01 (eleven years ago)

i saw her on SNL and it was a little embarrassing :/
