Oh shit! At this point I figured "Danny Glover" wasn't going to place.

WHO THE FUCK TOLD YOU THAT YOUNG THUGGER THUGGER DON'T FUCK UP THE BEAT??
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:25 (eleven years ago)
"out of the woods" is so emotional that i don't listen to it that often but i'll always remember it for being the first indicator that 1989 was gonna be great
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:25 (eleven years ago)
haha flopson you wasteman I had nothing in mind w/ 'absolute clown' but an instant & seething reaction to your dismissal of op's vox, u value my memory too highly, it's cute
― telling like hot takes (imago), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:26 (eleven years ago)
fyi forks this is on spotify as "2 bitches"
― gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:26 (eleven years ago)
i like "stoner" more than "danny glover" and a bunch of other young thug songs more than both but the chorus is really perfect
also i love how the beat references snap without being overt about it
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:26 (eleven years ago)
considerable improvement on his other appearances, still spoiled by autotune though
― saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:27 (eleven years ago)
It's also on there under Young T.H.U.G.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:27 (eleven years ago)
there's also a fake "yung thug - danny glover" on there
― gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:28 (eleven years ago)
is a song from tha tour gonna place or is there no consensus on which one

Truth.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:28 (eleven years ago)
Except there isn't any autotune?
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:29 (eleven years ago)

maybe "flava" but prob not at this point
i bet the mixtape is pretty high up at this point
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:30 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, this is autotuned, but not the way autotune is usually used. This is keeping him on the same note instead of him moving all around tonally.

The question is: if there's autotuning in the woods, but no one's around to hear it, was there autotuning after all?
― a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:35 (eleven years ago)
a. not sure how u can be so sure its autotuned b. "still spoiled by autotune though" def refers to using it in the overt vocal effect manner as in the other songs that were complained about c. give it up folks
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:38 (eleven years ago)
Wow are they double downing with the anti-aborads on YouTube today while I try to go check these songs out. Hope it backfires. Somebody make a parody ad about the pathos of being an abandoned spermatazoa, right now.
― Vic Perry, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:38 (eleven years ago)
Danny Glover ft Young Thug? that's what all the grandpas listen to at the yacht club while drinking scotch and talking about mutual funds.
Barf out Daddyo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
― kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:39 (eleven years ago)
i would be happy w/ "lifestyle" or "2 on" or "no flex zone" as #1. or really anything that isn't as predictable as a p4k/p&j top 5
― dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:40 (eleven years ago)
this is probably my least favorite of the young thug tracks i heard this year but i still like it
― dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:41 (eleven years ago)
not sure how u can be so sure its autotuned
Unless Thug's voicebox is actually an electronic device, there are artifacts in the vocal that give away its autotunedness.
Not that I care. I'm just surprised people are missing it.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:41 (eleven years ago)
feel like no flex zone has a dece shot everyone seemed to like that song

"2 on" seems like a solid choice but maybe too on the nose for ilx
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:42 (eleven years ago)
b. "still spoiled by autotune though" def refers to using it in the overt vocal effect manner as in the other songs that were complained
It wasnt! Overt is a matter of perspective, and to me if I can hear it, its overt, its disembodying presence is an unpleasant experience for me, it isnt that its 'not doing all that much', to me thats still doing a lot
if there's autotuning in the woods
no, please not there, anywhere but there
― saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:43 (eleven years ago)
just had the thought "a reasonable no. 1 would be 'no type'"

I really really don't care who uses autotune and who doesn't. It's an artistic choice sometimes, an ass saver others, but whatever. I know when I hear it, though.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:43 (eleven years ago)
bet
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:44 (eleven years ago)
watch out now, takes incoming:
terje: so many of the songs here are kind of circular and monophonic so it’s cool to hear one that plays around a lot with harmonic variety and modulation. this album was kind of disappointing as a whole.
“crying for no reason”: i very much wanted to pull for a latter-day “total eclipse of the heart” but this is missing something. the melody is a little sing-songy. the last minute (the instrumental outro) is amazing, which is not a good verdict on what is supposed to be a torch song for the singer?
shamir: not feeling much here either way, i’ll defer to Rev’s opinion i think
“otra era”: really nice but i bet i never go back to this. funny she’s an ILM EOY perennial, i have no memory of anything earlier either
guru "pooley": this rules! i need to keep up with the afropop thread better.. that hymnal ascending chord lick is so good
d’angelo "prayer" again i have no idea how to differentiate the tracks on this album. those that have leapt out and grabbed me have not been the ones turning up here, weird huh.
tkay maidza: i have some kind of personal stumbling block with buzzing, distorted bass tones. it always sounds like a producerly shortcut to being big and in your face without actually being that.
phantogram: so, Mad Men pop with buzzing, distorted bass? i’m like on the edge of liking this but it’s just kind of embarrassing
― goole, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:44 (eleven years ago)
I mean I can't believe Brad's type is No Type vis-avis No Flex Zone
― 龜, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:45 (eleven years ago)
"danny glover" is my favourite solo YT, beat is so evil. i don't think there is any autototune on it that's just what his voice sounds like
givench was the only thing from tha tour nominated iirc? lifestyle will be top 5, mixtape probs top 10
― flopson, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:45 (eleven years ago)

no flex zone won the poll tho NO (choose one): FLEX ZONE | TYPE
― flopson, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 21:46 (eleven years ago)
YT "stoner": i’m with lex on this one. the herky-jerkiness of it isn’t for me.
shift k3y: ok, doesn’t seem like much. digging around in shift k3y thread to see if there’s anything better…
indiana: ok, doesn’t seem like much.
“shake it off”: at this late hour i still don’t have strong opinions about taylor swift at all, isn’t that so interesting?? what exactly does she have to shake off?
no its becky: “civil war wave” tpp? lmao ahem that is “stomp campfire” to you sir. i think if they got rid of the acoustic guitar strum i’d really like it instead of kind of like it. like i can already hear the countless youtube acoustic covers in my head.
war on drugs: springsteen? c’mon this sounds like fucking dire straits! (ok alfred mentioned knopfler) i like dire straits! i always want indie bands to get big and hammy and emotional, thanks war on drugs! (“archie” made a big impression on me but i’ll probably never listen to this again) (ahem pt 2 flopson, young turks?? that was new wave as hell, that’s exactly what this is missing)
R&R “monument”: another one of these huh. sampled “oh” ascending scale is what makes it, not the sax. too damn long.
dej loaf: love it. great. totally love that there’s all these dudes lip syncing to this sweet voiced woman in the video
hodgson “babylon system”: this is one of the best things on the list so far without question
“tough love”: i sing along to this really loud in the car, hit back and do it again, though i drop it an octave, because i have to be a man about it.
“quarterback”: holy shit. disappointing that the video shows us a happy-ish ending that the song does not.
TI and YT: man i fell in love with this when i came out and then forgot about it, whoops! i love how TI sounds really choppy and chirpy at times and YT kind of smooths out (a little), like they’re really happy to be playing off each other (self reminder to pay more attn to london)
“riverbed” i need to get this
“out of the woods” ehhhhhhhh she can write a bridge tho
YT “danny glover” this is legit queasy and threatening, glad it placed higher than stoner

I wrote up a bunch of hot takes of the songs I'd never heard before but it was so negative and I deleted it. good work on the Javiera Mena track though! and "riverbed" was surprisingly badass. I thought I'd listened to that album but I will have to revisit

I dig the TI/YT tracks production a lot but (-boring complaints about boring rap tropes redacted-) but that's got to be the cheapest-looking hip hop video for some time - guess that's how all about the money it is.
