some horrendous uptempo remix of the track is getting play on the rhythmic station here lol
― dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:19 (eleven years ago)

― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:20 (eleven years ago)
i didn't vote for this but this is a tremendous track
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:21 (eleven years ago)
oh fuck yes OP
― Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:21 (eleven years ago)
I didn't weight my ballot but this would have been in my top 10
t.i.'s rapping on this is pretty vintage imo, i was shocked by how much i replayed this over the year
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:23 (eleven years ago)
when i saw dude live i totally did the white-dude-at-an-indie-show-head/shoulder-while-standing-in-place-wobble-dance for the last 2mins of this song
― gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:23 (eleven years ago)
ya idk maybe its just ti and thugs parts seem dissonant but not like in a good way
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:24 (eleven years ago)
Voted for a different OP track to either of the ones that have placed, but v. glad to see this one.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:24 (eleven years ago)
that post was abt OP not TI/YT ftr
― gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:24 (eleven years ago)
lol
― emil.y, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:25 (eleven years ago)
Oh yes! This is the best track of Pallett's album for me, didn't think it would place and found it odd 'song for five and six' did. Good job ILM. This reminds me of some other artist but I can't pinpoint it.
― the QT conundrum (Moka), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:25 (eleven years ago)
i saw dude do this live 2 separate times and both times I was like super super giddy, v highly recommended
― Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:25 (eleven years ago)
love the dude but sadly i'm in the can't get with the vocals camp. like this more than the previous one that placed. it has a v dope video featuring owen's uncle iirc
― flopson, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:26 (eleven years ago)
never listened to OP before (or after) but i really liked this one
― nothing but rap and country (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:27 (eleven years ago)
In this particular song the voice doesn't bother at all since the instruments are busy and upfront enough that you can concentrate on everything that's going on around it rather than on it.
― the QT conundrum (Moka), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:28 (eleven years ago)
always lumped him into the violinists with loopers who whistle camp so i was pleasantly surprised
― nothing but rap and country (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:28 (eleven years ago)
hmmm not sure if i am totally on board but at least interested enough to give it further listens later
― dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:28 (eleven years ago)
I enjoy his voice a lot.
― Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:29 (eleven years ago)
Reaction to voice is such a weird thing.
Fucking amazing amazing song, my #7, I won't say 'too low' coz I hate that but I will say that ILX needs some new posters
― telling like hot takes (imago), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:29 (eleven years ago)
I get the criticisms about Owen's vocals because he sings more like a classical singer than a pop singer but it totally works for what he does.
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:30 (eleven years ago)
Ah great to see OP placing nice and high
― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:30 (eleven years ago)
see i think it could explode with a pop vocalist
― flopson, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:32 (eleven years ago)
lyrics of "the riverbed" are really incredible and i've found them v personally affecting over the past year
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:33 (eleven years ago)
Heart, heart in your mouth, hand on the paperWith the new work that you’ve foundThe gift of your depression bears you down, down, down
^^^^ in fact this is happening right now

― telling like hot takes (imago), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:35 (eleven years ago)
dang, I don't think I'd heard this one? it sounds really good to me right now
― example (crüt), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:35 (eleven years ago)
lorenzo mix of 'touch' was my number 1 / is the best thing ever but both are essential and need each other. follow-up was the excellent 'i know'.
― dbs, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:24 (3 hours ago) Permalink
This was me also - you my man.
Also fuck yeah at "Babylon System" placing.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:35 (eleven years ago)
And "The Riverbed"
Loving this Owen Pallett track. Really didn't think I enjoyed him all that much so I've dismissed most of the stuff he's done but, shit, "The Riverbed" is fucking great.
― Non-Stop Erotic Calculus (bmus), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:36 (eleven years ago)
It was, it was, but I don't know that it'd beat out 'the Riverbed', I definitely thought of that as the more consensus pick.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:37 (eleven years ago)
I listened to In Conflict just enough this year to know how good it is, but not enough to pick out individual songs which I would've voted for. I'm glad other people did that work.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:37 (eleven years ago)
owens music is cool imo tho its not something im often in the mood to jam to
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:39 (eleven years ago)
wanna learn how to play "the riverbed" drums so bad
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:40 (eleven years ago)
hmm listened to 'has a good home' and 'he poos clouds' a lot way back when but gone off him recently, vocals are just too in the background. a bit too these new puritans.
― danzig, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:41 (eleven years ago)
I need to listen to this, cos Heartland was amazing.
― xelab, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:41 (eleven years ago)
christ the video too
when a) the strings come in and b) the strings resolve in major key it's like...i die
this is the best song that will be in this poll (barring dawson miracles) so enjoy it folks :) x
― telling like hot takes (imago), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:42 (eleven years ago)
forks named it "ILX 2014 - 77 Best Tracks of the Year"
When I type this or "ILX 2014" in, nothing turns up. When I search "ILX", I get "ILX Has a Bucket" and "ILX Pre-Covers Hesitation Marks" but nothing else, other than "Acura ILX".
I really love "The Riverbed" (and OP's vocals) btw; was probably top 10 for me. What sort of vocalist do people want to hear over this? Justin Timberlake??
xposts
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:42 (eleven years ago)
second confounding these new puritans comparison itt
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:42 (eleven years ago)
"Acura ILX" <<its this one
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:43 (eleven years ago)
obv by 'strings' i mean the legato droney ones not the staccato ones that drive the whole song, pedants
― telling like hot takes (imago), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:43 (eleven years ago)
Taking issue with OP's vocals just doesn't make sense to me one bit.
― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:45 (eleven years ago)
Owen and Joel Gibb from The Hidden Cameras sort of operate in the same part of the spectrum vocally, which is like warm butter imo.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:47 (eleven years ago)
hey I'm back
hmm i think i maybe accidentally voted for the same song twice in my tracks ballot? seandalai maybe you can confirm/deny if that's the case. not sure if my XL spreadsheet differs from what i submitted.― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Wednesday, January 21, 2015 6:54 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

yeah you're right - the second vote will have been ignored
― seandalai, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 20:47 (eleven years ago)
I love Owen Pallett 's album but I can easily understand why his vocals turn some off.
