I enjoy The War on Drugs because it makes for good winter highway driving music.
The moment The War on Drugs finally worked for me was when I was walking around outside in really cold weather. It's definitely a winter album.

scared to get to 5:20 now. I like my life!

that deep tech thread has so much good stuff in it
― rob, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:42 (eleven years ago)

Xpost it's a self-fulfilling prophecy though. Tracks poll has always been pop oriented but it's not necessarily meant to be.

i dunno even if some of the dumb weird rock bands or folk drone weirdo guitar players i like would have any chance of placing the massive shitfit it would incur doesn't really seem worth it ya know?
― Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:44 (eleven years ago)
plus i'd rather just check out the results and hear some stuff i don't know
god this track is terrific
― dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:45 (eleven years ago)

phew my life didn't change, but this track is v good indeed!

cant be doing with this hodgson its like going to a funeral
― saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:46 (eleven years ago)
Couldn't decide on a 2NE1 track so voted the album instead.

I'd love to hear all those UMS. I still think the soloing of genres into rolling threads is one of the most disappointing things to happen to ilm.

― saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:49 (eleven years ago)
tuuuuuuuuunecame on the spotify tracks noms and i replayed it like 10 timeswonderfully addictive
― nxd, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)
This beat seems really stiff. I like the Whodini synths tho.
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)
I think people are generally pretty open to different rock or avant things showing up in the tracks poll. It's just the same ol' Spoon and WoD and whatever that really riles a few.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)
Oh this one is nice! I overheard it a few weeks ago and thought it was Modeselektor.
― Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)
I'm gonna go ahead and call Babylon System dancehall
people enjoying this should check out "One Spliff" too
― rob, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:51 (eleven years ago)
UMS I really wish u voted in these fwiw

had to spend some time finding a photo of dude that wasnt 300px wide or smaller, ending up jacking the one i used was from his label's facebook page-- looks like a fun party: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.898605113498615.1073741829.147312335294567&type=3
― gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:52 (eleven years ago)
well "babylon system" is basically a sizzla song
unfortch given the wealth of trax in the deep tech thread i always thought this was the most likely crossover, so i can't see it for any more...jay baptiste maybe?
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:52 (eleven years ago)
given that it takes, what, seven votes to place in the top 77, i don't think anything should be considered out of the realm of possibility tbh
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:53 (eleven years ago)
I might have skimmed past some angst, but feel like the anti-indie meltdown stuff is being exaggerated pretty hard this year. i mean there hasn't been much to react to, but i'm not seeing the wailing and gnashing of teeth people keep referring to
― rob, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:53 (eleven years ago)
agreed
― the top 40 is just the sound of autotuned crying (sleeve), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:54 (eleven years ago)
hmm i think i maybe accidentally voted for the same song twice in my tracks ballot? seandalai maybe you can confirm/deny if that's the case. not sure if my XL spreadsheet differs from what i submitted.
― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:54 (eleven years ago)

gonna go out on a limb and say that all tracks should sample sizzla

I voted for Beep Dee (as well as Hodgson)
― rob, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:56 (eleven years ago)
i voted for rs4 so uh yeah i think this is it for deep tech
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:57 (eleven years ago)
oh right babylon system, i gave that a listen, that drama sounds cheap to me which i'm sure it isn't when you're at those clubs but i don't live in london sorry. made me reach for rhythm & sound instead.
― languagelessness (mattresslessness), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:57 (eleven years ago)
starting to regret my tossed off poorly researched unweighted trax ballot
― the top 40 is just the sound of autotuned crying (sleeve), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:59 (eleven years ago)
idk i've only heard it in my room sorta drunk and it's v consuming xpost

deep tech is actually pretty big outside of london just sayin xp
― out here like a flopson (tpp), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:59 (eleven years ago)
I've not heard Babylon System before (or many vocal deep tech records at all) and HOLY SHIT.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 19:00 (eleven years ago)
for me, its just very flat footed and the sound palette is tiring
― saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 19:00 (eleven years ago)
my impression of deep tech is that it's great and functional if you're living it but i'm not and see no reason to want to, that sort of functionality is something i can find in front of me if i need it.
