"try me" is probably too cloudy and singsong for me to love but i grew to appreciate it after a while. still the second best rap song called "try me" of 2014 though.

i sort of file it alongside taylor swift's "you are in love" and indeed you can sort of sing them over each other; people who love them seem to really love them and feel really deeply to them, but i find them a bit slight and the melodies too simplistic for that. nice to see it nonetheless

try me... more crying and driving, roads must be jammed. i stay in the woods where there are no cars and i dont have to hear these awful records

Shit I scrolled down to see talk of the National and got scared they placed. Now that's a 'fuck boring white male grad student indie rock' crusade I can get behind. They didn't put anything out this year did they?

Yoga Knives (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:16 (eleven years ago)

dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:17 (eleven years ago)

Been hearing this Dej Loaf on the radio lately. Dig it. I just realized it kind of reminds me of Sean Kingston.

i do have a mortgage and it's really no different than rent really, you don't think about it unless you're coming up short like when my wife got laid off. but i don't think war on drugs was out then, don't know how i made it.

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:18 (eleven years ago)

out here like a flopson (tpp), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:20 (eleven years ago)

it isnt mortgages thats the problem, its expensive cars that dont make you happy and you just end up crying the whole time. its hardly worth it!

saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:20 (eleven years ago)

kurt vile's last one was though, maybe i listened to that

but honestly call me a traditionalist but when i stare into the old mortgage void i go to old school stoner bummer shit like on the beach by neil young

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:20 (eleven years ago)

Try Me is really nice. Love the swirly backing track and the disconnect from the lyrics. Video doesn't rly float my boat.

ewar woowar (or something), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:20 (eleven years ago)

Oh wow I totally thought Dej was a dude til just now. Whoops.

<3 "Try Me"
<3 Dej Loaf

It's all about the contrast between how pretty it is and the deadpanned death threats imo.

i like how her delivery gives the song a kind of rhythm it wouldn't have otherwise with that floaty beat

languagelessness (mattresslessness), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:26 (eleven years ago)

maybe mcdonalds chicken nuggets?

vegetarian, really not a fan of the global food industry, health reasons, environment, and animal welfare, 3 pretty big things and mcdonalds just miss the target on all of them. the sign is garbage as well, you would think by now it would have someone got alright with being a mainstay of the advertizing landscape but its actually got worse

saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:26 (eleven years ago)

never heard war on drugs don't know what autune is or crying and i fish for a living

languagelessness (mattresslessness), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:28 (eleven years ago)

i enjoy the war on drugs because i like to smoke weed

there's no combination of words that couldn't replace "the war on drugs" in that sentence

Gombeen Dance Band (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:34 (eleven years ago)

To be fair to saer, it does feel as though this year's poll is a lot more 'consistent', if not predictable, than previous years. Great if you're into pop but usually there are a few more outliers and hidden gems by this point and I can't see the rest of the poll diverging from that. Where's the house music? Where's the token metal track? Why are the only two indie tracks to place so unremarkably MOR?

the sax on monument is so mournful

||||||||, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:35 (eleven years ago)

"try me" was my #2 song of the year

maybe the best rapping of any 2014 single packaged in this weird little flow and a fluffy cotton candy beat

the song makes a lot of sense but also very little sense

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:35 (eleven years ago)

ha this is gonna sound like i'm aping saer but true story i was walking home in a misty rain last nite and a sports car slowed down to roll over a speed bump right next to me and i could hear a few seconds of "try me" bumping from inside its closed windows, i cracked a grin as it hit the gas and sped away
