Honestly this isn't the worst thing ever but I just can't imagine what it would be like having any use for this sort of thing. Like what kind of lives do War On Drugs fans lead? What are their hopes and fears? I imagine they spend a lot of time thinking about mortgages.

The War on Drugs album was one of my favorites of 2014. I don't have a mortgage, though.

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:03 (eleven years ago)

yeah but have you ever been in a war.... on drugs?

gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:03 (eleven years ago)

Is it common knowledge that Kurt Vile is a former WOD member? Up until this year, he'd garnered far more credibility with music critics, but don't know what ILM thinks about him.

i love (some of) kurt vile's solo records since leaving war on drugs. i haven't listened to much war on drugs but haven't heard anything to interest me in them yet.

Xpost Deerhunter and Grizzly Bear and lots of bands my band mates seem to like so much too. I file all these under 'twig rock' because it seems to be going for a big sound that just ends up sounding brittle and indistinct, like it's buried under leaves or something.

like looking at the end of a party through leaves

ciderpress, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:05 (eleven years ago)

For me, War on Drugs is all about the driving beat and the atmospherics.

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:05 (eleven years ago)

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:11 (eleven years ago)

I can get behind WoD but Grizzly Bear are the worst. It doesnt help that they have the most punchable faces in twig-rock.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:12 (eleven years ago)

there are people who aren't into bourbon?

Exactly!

Vulvacura (Eric H.), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:12 (eleven years ago)

Do like the contrast between the lush, smooth backing and the sing song voice with the lyrics.

"set it off like jada pinkett" is terrible tho

pandemic, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:12 (eleven years ago)

What happened to socially/politically concious rappers

out here like a flopson (tpp), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:14 (eleven years ago)

oh dear i just looked at the comments D: h8 the world sometimes

dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:14 (eleven years ago)

"try me" is probably too cloudy and singsong for me to love but i grew to appreciate it after a while. still the second best rap song called "try me" of 2014 though.

i sort of file it alongside taylor swift's "you are in love" and indeed you can sort of sing them over each other; people who love them seem to really love them and feel really deeply to them, but i find them a bit slight and the melodies too simplistic for that. nice to see it nonetheless

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:14 (eleven years ago)

try me... more crying and driving, roads must be jammed. i stay in the woods where there are no cars and i dont have to hear these awful records

saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:15 (eleven years ago)

how is 'try me' crying.... dead-eyed maybe but crying???

out here like a flopson (tpp), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:16 (eleven years ago)

trying for no reason

nashwan, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:16 (eleven years ago)

have decided saer is posting during a peyote trip

rob, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:16 (eleven years ago)

Shit I scrolled down to see talk of the National and got scared they placed. Now that's a 'fuck boring white male grad student indie rock' crusade I can get behind. They didn't put anything out this year did they?

Yoga Knives (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:16 (eleven years ago)

all autotune is crying

saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:17 (eleven years ago)

dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 18:17 (eleven years ago)

Been hearing this Dej Loaf on the radio lately. Dig it. I just realized it kind of reminds me of Sean Kingston.
