I WOULD LITERALLY RATHER BOIL MY EYEBALLS IN ACID AND PRY OFF ALL OF MY FINGERNAILS AND TOENAILS WITH A RUSTY DEVICE THAN LISTEN TO [indie rock song]

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:38 (eleven years ago)

Damn, a LOT of stuff I've never heard of here so far. Got some catching up to do!

But re: War on Drugs, I think it's funny they inspire such hatred really. I also don't really understand singling Red Eyes out as THE SONG to vote for, album is good, not great, but so samey. I have to say that this band was way more awesome live in a festival setting than I expected. Way more passionate than the record comes across.

Yoga Knives (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:38 (eleven years ago)

almost got into an argument about war on drugs on the internet there

(but this sounds nothing like big country)

Ottbot jr (NickB), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:38 (eleven years ago)

WOD's placing makes me wish we required some kind of minimum post count/posting history before a poster can submit an EOY ballot

i.e. I'm blaming the lurkers here

i like their last album much better but i probably played this song 100 times this year

I THOUGHT THE 2008 GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS WAS BAD BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE TRUE PAIN UNTIL [indie rock song] PLACED IN THE MIDDLE OF A MUSIC MESSAGE BOARD POLL

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:39 (eleven years ago)

fair enough then xp

think we ought to introduce an annual WOD'n'Spoon award for the worst indie rock garbage in the poll

Ottbot jr (NickB), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:41 (eleven years ago)

would have voted for qt, shake it off and war on drugs if i had voted :X

nothing but rap and country (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:41 (eleven years ago)

love the war on drugs but have not actually heard much of their last album. best deep cut is 'needle in your eye' from their debut, which is a total springsteen banger with some insane organs and huge drums.

LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:41 (eleven years ago)

Hey, where'd the 8-bit Swift go in your playlist, forks? Better option than Kidz Bop imo.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, January 21, 2015

i did some research and found about 8 gazillion versions of shake it off and only three full cover albums of 1989 so i figured it's worth saving those albums for the deeper cuts that are likely to place momentarily. I like the Kidz Bop version less myself but it's somewhat truer to Shake It Off's animus imo

The only fan I personally know is also a big fan of Wilco and My Morning Jacket. He works as a programmer, drinks one or two beers almost every day, looks like mexican quentin tarantino. Is afraid of commitment and living in one city his entire life.

I like MMJ alright. H8 Wilco tho.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:42 (eleven years ago)

Oh good, I was worried that I might actually like War On Drugs when I finally heard them and that would be horribly embarrassing, but nope, this is very poor.

emil.y, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:42 (eleven years ago)

I think watching the video for the first time just now pushed Stoner from like to love for me.

Blurring out the blunt has to be the most unnecessary/hypocritical censorship ever.

working my way through the results imagining each as migos & young thug songs, will share my thoughts in due time

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:43 (eleven years ago)

(I think I did hear them once years ago and thought the same thing, but I might be getting them confused with a similarly-named band or something)

xp to me again

Does this mean hes afraid of living in one city his entire life or has lived in one city his entire life?

imo the best part about this song is how the saxophone kind of sounds like something from a "shreds" youtube while improving the song at the same time

(but this sounds nothing like big country)

right, bc they can't play together

Ayyyy

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:46 (eleven years ago)

Indiana song is a fat slug on the garden path in the way of life. Chris Lake remix is like someone drew on the slug with a marker pen. unpleasant experience

taylor swift and war on drugs boring, he sounds like the guy from u2

becky g, is it one of the competition winner things?

saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:47 (eleven years ago)

def the best song on the EP. one of the best nighttime driving jams of the year.

Why would you be worried you might like them?

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:47 (eleven years ago)

Well you started ok, Wednesday. See you tomorrow.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:47 (eleven years ago)

Glad Monument placed. And a bit surprised as apparently everyone itt hates Do It Again and Robyn and Royksopp.

ewar woowar (or something), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:48 (eleven years ago)

gr80 otm about the sax. Burn the lp version, ep version 4eva.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:49 (eleven years ago)

jesus this royskopp record is plodding. a resounding no

saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:49 (eleven years ago)

Oh wow "Monument"! Didn't think it would placed this highly. Glad it placed ahead of the dull "Do It Again."

danzig, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:49 (eleven years ago)

Royksopp + Young Thug

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:50 (eleven years ago)

Surprised this was so much popular than Do It Again.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:50 (eleven years ago)

ok saxophone makes this

otherwise yeah more soothing blankness

Gombeen Dance Band (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:50 (eleven years ago)

wd def play this again

Gombeen Dance Band (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:51 (eleven years ago)

I actually heard "Shake It Off" for the first time earlier this week, didn't hate it!

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:51 (eleven years ago)

I voted for red eyes (and the album). I also like: Wilco, The National, and Country music (if that helps). And I pay a mortgage.

The things that most appeal to me about the song are the hook, the momentum, the "drop" (which is excellent for what is essentially an acoustic rock song), and the way it plays with volume. The latter is so well done in comparison to, say, an Arcade Fire, which has perfected the art of beating you over the head with loud.

Indexed, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:51 (eleven years ago)

Overall I have not even heard of so many artists here though

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:51 (eleven years ago)

yes those rarified quiet-loud dynamics xpost

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:52 (eleven years ago)

I voted Monument but my fav Royksopp thing this year was Goodnite Mr Sweetheart by a mile.

ewar woowar (or something), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:52 (eleven years ago)

Is there a better realised version of what Red Eyes goes for from recent years? Like in the same style, speed and scale?

Not expecting 'Arcade Fire' as an answer to that because I really don't hear significant difference.

Most of the hate seems for the concept than the execution as per.
