i like the distanced, druggy (ironically) production vibe on this, kinda wish they'd reign in the exciteableness and Big Country guitar shit. feel like a bunch of different genres have had people using emotionally flattened sounds this year, to answer Rev i reckon people listen to this stuff to embrace the blankness?
god help us otherwise

dammit Brad beat me to the Big Country zing
― Gombeen Dance Band (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:37 (eleven years ago)
I do spend time thinking about mortgages.
― silverfish, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:37 (eleven years ago)
if 'in a big country' came out today it wouldn't crack top 30 on the tracks poll either
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:37 (eleven years ago)
when stuff like this gets compared with him, i guess Bruce must feel about the same Kate Bush does when people bring up Bat For Lashes and Florence. poor Bruce.

Honestly this isn't the worst thing ever but I just can't imagine what it would be like having any use for this sort of thing. Like what kind of lives do War On Drugs fans lead? What are their hopes and fears? I imagine they spend a lot of time thinking about mortgages.

The only fan I personally know is also a big fan of Wilco and My Morning Jacket. He works as a programmer, drinks one or two beers almost every day, looks like mexican quentin tarantino. Is afraid of commitment and living in one city his entire life.

[indie rock song] IS LITERALLY THE WORST SEWAGE THAT I HAVE EVER COME WITHIN A 100-YARD RADIUS OF IN MY ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE
― Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:37 (eleven years ago)
migos + young thug rapping over a big country sample think abt it
― gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:37 (eleven years ago)
This is far from the most offensive thing that's been featured in the rundown so far, but also one of the least distinctive, so.
― Vulvacura (Eric H.), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:38 (eleven years ago)
Voted for 'Shake It Off' and 'Shower' both enduring commute bangers that always get me stepping faster. 'Shower' took a few listens for me to realise its true awesomeness but love love love it major hard.
Do all the ppl who like Hey QT and whatever the other song was that all the QT ppl liked also love Shake It Off?
Team Hate The War On Drugs

I WOULD LITERALLY RATHER BOIL MY EYEBALLS IN ACID AND PRY OFF ALL OF MY FINGERNAILS AND TOENAILS WITH A RUSTY DEVICE THAN LISTEN TO [indie rock song]
― Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:38 (eleven years ago)
Damn, a LOT of stuff I've never heard of here so far. Got some catching up to do!
But re: War on Drugs, I think it's funny they inspire such hatred really. I also don't really understand singling Red Eyes out as THE SONG to vote for, album is good, not great, but so samey. I have to say that this band was way more awesome live in a festival setting than I expected. Way more passionate than the record comes across.
― Yoga Knives (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:38 (eleven years ago)
almost got into an argument about war on drugs on the internet there
(but this sounds nothing like big country)

WOD's placing makes me wish we required some kind of minimum post count/posting history before a poster can submit an EOY ballot
i.e. I'm blaming the lurkers here

I THOUGHT THE 2008 GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS WAS BAD BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE TRUE PAIN UNTIL [indie rock song] PLACED IN THE MIDDLE OF A MUSIC MESSAGE BOARD POLL

would have voted for qt, shake it off and war on drugs if i had voted :X
― nothing but rap and country (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:41 (eleven years ago)
love the war on drugs but have not actually heard much of their last album. best deep cut is 'needle in your eye' from their debut, which is a total springsteen banger with some insane organs and huge drums.

Oh good, I was worried that I might actually like War On Drugs when I finally heard them and that would be horribly embarrassing, but nope, this is very poor.

I think watching the video for the first time just now pushed Stoner from like to love for me.
Blurring out the blunt has to be the most unnecessary/hypocritical censorship ever.

Indiana song is a fat slug on the garden path in the way of life. Chris Lake remix is like someone drew on the slug with a marker pen. unpleasant experience
taylor swift and war on drugs boring, he sounds like the guy from u2
