enjoyed this song in footloose tbh

War On Drugs are pleasant enough but I have a hard time believing people who seem to find them an exciting proposition. Their placement at the top of so many albums lists is unfathomable. Still, I've come to enjoy Red Eyes as a standout track with a memorable hook that was worth casting a low vote to.

I gave it a second chance over the holiday, and while its pretty meaninglessness has its attractions it still doesn't sound Springteenian or like Knopfler (both of.whom recorded plenty of tuneful meaninglessness).

War on Drugs finally clicked for me when relistening to albums for this poll. It's easy to dismiss on the first couple of listens, but there really is something good in there and it stays with you.

Red Eyes (and all the other songs on the album) sort of meander for far too long, I prefer older songs of him like 'Taking out the farm', the same kind of trick but more concise.

I would have voted for "eyes to the wind" if i bothered voting for tracks this year

How can you not see the Springsteen influence? It's the same thing Arcade Fire where doing on the suburbs album.

Honestly this isn't the worst thing ever but I just can't imagine what it would be like having any use for this sort of thing. Like what kind of lives do War On Drugs fans lead? What are their hopes and fears? I imagine they spend a lot of time thinking about mortgages.

When people say "sounds like Springsteen" in this context, what they really mean is "this sounds big and important like 'Born to Run'".

i like the distanced, druggy (ironically) production vibe on this, kinda wish they'd reign in the exciteableness and Big Country guitar shit. feel like a bunch of different genres have had people using emotionally flattened sounds this year, to answer Rev i reckon people listen to this stuff to embrace the blankness?

The only fan I personally know is also a big fan of Wilco and My Morning Jacket. He works as a programmer, drinks one or two beers almost every day, looks like mexican quentin tarantino. Is afraid of commitment and living in one city his entire life.

This is far from the most offensive thing that's been featured in the rundown so far, but also one of the least distinctive, so.

Voted for 'Shake It Off' and 'Shower' both enduring commute bangers that always get me stepping faster. 'Shower' took a few listens for me to realise its true awesomeness but love love love it major hard.

Do all the ppl who like Hey QT and whatever the other song was that all the QT ppl liked also love Shake It Off?

But re: War on Drugs, I think it's funny they inspire such hatred really. I also don't really understand singling Red Eyes out as THE SONG to vote for, album is good, not great, but so samey. I have to say that this band was way more awesome live in a festival setting than I expected. Way more passionate than the record comes across.
