Why does this video turn into a 90s Gap commercial at the end?

― The Reverend, miércoles 21 de enero de 2015 16:40 (44 seconds ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

It seems to be the video trend in 2014. Turn every music video into a Gap commercial. Meghan Trainor's vid is also guilty of this.

― Moka, Wednesday, January 21, 2015 11:43 AM (1 minute ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

gap commercials are cheap to shoot im sure has something to do w it

― lag∞n, miércoles 21 de enero de 2015 16:46 (46 seconds ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Didn't knew label money was a problem for Swift or Trainor, the rest of the video doesn't look precisely cheap.

Taylor def splurged on the Blank Space video

I just don't know if I would let a weak bridge hold me back if I loved a song.

― campreverb, Wednesday, January 21, 2015 4:45 PM (3 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

it's not like i love the rest of it, the bridge just sinks a song that had little going for it anyway

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:50 (eleven years ago)

ot genasis song was the viral vine meme song with the shortest shelf-life tbh, doubting it will place

well its more of an industry wide money problem leading to these trends wld be my theory, but yeah any video thats shot in studio w like no set even is gonna be as cheap

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:51 (eleven years ago)

there's a few good cover versions of swift songs and (given the number of tracks likely to place and the considerable infamy of taylor v spotify this year) I hope no one minds if we commemorate the swizzy cuts with covers for the moment. When/if the cold war ends, I will alter appropriately for posterity.

good song! didn't realize people around here liked it that much

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:54 (eleven years ago)

i like that there's a chiptune cover album of 1989 that claims to exclusively use video game sounds from 1989; that there is some catnip for my cornball sensibilities

"shake it off" is likeable nonsense but it's a little weird to see people who haven't given TS the time of day in 7 years hear this one and be all "hmmm, now this, this one isn't too bad!" i mean of all her songs to suddenly like

was this a hit??? last time i looked becky g existed only on pop messageboards as a byword for a laughable flop

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:56 (eleven years ago)

Just think while you've been getting down and out about the liars and the dirty, dirty posters in this thread, you could've been getting down to this sick beat.

idk it's pretty much the most palatable song I've heard by her, but that only makes it like a 5/10

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:59 (eleven years ago)

I have no idea whether Becky G exists irl but I discovered "Shower" via the rolling worst music thread and then I listened to it 20 times in a row. My #4.

i dunno.. everything else i heard by her just didn't appeal to me very much at all. i get that people like the country-tinged dear diary boy/girl lyrics or whatever but it's just not my cuppa choice.

it was a minor hit in the states (top 20). it seems like the label wanted it to be bigger b/c they postponed the album. she is still basically seen as a laughable flop.

dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:00 (eleven years ago)

ha this is really good tho. totally slept on it. when the echoing backing vox come in! i like how the verses, bridge and chorus all feel really different but not just pasted together

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:00 (eleven years ago)

It's totally an okay song. I'll probably happily listen to it several more times.

love that this thread spawns favorites.
i'm not crazy about shower as it's a little too boneless and becky g's other songs are MUCH worse but shower is inoffensive and enjoyable in small doses imo

Sounds like a forks display name (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:03 (eleven years ago)

Flop my arse, this was number one in the Ukraine!

Highest song on my ballot to place so far, discovered it through the summer jams thread but it's such a joyous pop song.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:03 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, this is a major guilty pleasure.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 17:04 (eleven years ago)

I can see why this is a flop, the recorder/flute sound in the chorus doesn't have enough punch for commercial radio. Even makes the song sound a bit melancholic. It was the only part of the song I liked, though.
