Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:27 (eleven years ago)

I didn't vote for any Taylor Swift in this poll but I don't mind "Shake It Off"

example (crüt), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

Bleah, "Shake It Off" gives me the hives most of you seem to get from "All About That Bass"

no Mmmmbob (contenderizer), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

hot takers gonna take take take take take

cajunsunday, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

"shake it off" is great but i never considered voting for it

i wish the production was richer and the bridge didn't exist but otherwise it's kind of impeccable

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

I voted for "Shake It Off" idc idc

EVERY HUGH JACKMAN HAS A VAN HELSING (some dude), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

why do people hate 'shake it off' so much? i'm not really that invested in tswift but is it because it's quite a different style for her? i find it ludicrously catchy.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

"Solo Dancing" was beloved by the Singles Jukebox; its novelty wore off damn quick.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

Not a fan of 'Shake It Off' but how is it so low?!?!?! I have clearly misread ilx.

emil.y, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

xposts the bridge is silly though yes.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)

the dancers in the video have nice muscles

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)

Radio opened "Shake It Off" to me, especially in Nov-Dec, but ugh no: still my least favorite track. What you naysayers said about Tuneyards applies more to "Shake It Off."

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)

i think this song is fine and possibly good

ciderpress, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:31 (eleven years ago)

I didn't vote for it and yes the breakdown is lame but there's something about the layers of melody that build up over the choruses that really works for me.

That it's deliberately clunky, needlessly arty and culturally appropriative?

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:31 (eleven years ago)

yes "shake it off" is catchy but the lyrics are some inane scribbles t-swift found in katy perry's bin, the production is thin and cheap and maybe it could've been elevated by one of her transcendent bridges but this bridge is the opposite of transcendent

if it was by rita ora or whoever then it'd be whatever but it's just so far beneath swift's standard

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:32 (eleven years ago)

"needlessly arty"

no Mmmmbob (contenderizer), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

"arty"

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:34 (eleven years ago)

Tune-Yards song is just gibberish

example (crüt), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:35 (eleven years ago)

xps ah i see. yeah i like it as a piece of infectious pop fluff. a very rare occasion where i was in my local shop and i found myself hooked to whatever was on the radio.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:36 (eleven years ago)

The label should have filled the 'shake it off' video with masturbation innuendos.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:37 (eleven years ago)

xpost as i say, not having strong feelings about tswift otherwise probably helps in my appreciation of 'shake it off'

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:37 (eleven years ago)

the bridge is unfortunate but its still a jam, love poppy tay

Perhaps your carefully-constructed version of what ILX believes about pop music is off

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:40 (eleven years ago)

Why does this video turn into a 90s Gap commercial at the end?

Not particularly carefully-constructed, more based on a bazillion T-Swift songs placing every time she releases anything eligible in a year.

emil.y, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:43 (eleven years ago)

Give it time...

Matt DC, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:43 (eleven years ago)

>Have no use for candy-glossed, pseudo-romantic dance pop

this is perhaps the worst opinion i've ever read

lol yeah "candy-glossed, pseudo-romantic dance pop" is v. much in my zone

It seems to be the video trend in 2014. Turn every music video into a Gap commercial. Meghan Trainor's vid is also guilty of this.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:43 (eleven years ago)

And that will happen again this year. Shake it off is just one of the weaker ones imho xp to Emily

a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:44 (eleven years ago)

i'm surprised SIT wasn't a lot higher either though. as a song it feels like an ILM hit, even if the bridge is a bit daft and it's not up to swift's usual standard.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:45 (eleven years ago)

Meghan Trainor's whole deal is Gap commercial.

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:45 (eleven years ago)

still hoping for O.T. Genasis in top 10

mh, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:45 (eleven years ago)

I just don't know if I would let a weak bridge hold me back if I loved a song.

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:46 (eleven years ago)

looking forward to a zillion taylor swift songs clogging up the rest of the poll then :-/

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:46 (eleven years ago)

way o/t, but each time this Katy B song comes around again in the spotify playlist, I like it more. Sneaky.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:46 (eleven years ago)

Just one Richard Dawson and I will take a top ten of nothing but Swift

telling like hot takes (imago), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:47 (eleven years ago)

it's not going to happen in the tracks poll, imago

Didn't knew label money was a problem for Swift or Trainor, the rest of the video doesn't look precisely cheap.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:48 (eleven years ago)

Taylor def splurged on the Blank Space video

, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:49 (eleven years ago)

lol @ the 8-bit version of Shake It Off forks added to the playlist.

it's not like i love the rest of it, the bridge just sinks a song that had little going for it anyway

ot genasis song was the viral vine meme song with the shortest shelf-life tbh, doubting it will place

well its more of an industry wide money problem leading to these trends wld be my theory, but yeah any video thats shot in studio w like no set even is gonna be as cheap

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:51 (eleven years ago)

there's a few good cover versions of swift songs and (given the number of tracks likely to place and the considerable infamy of taylor v spotify this year) I hope no one minds if we commemorate the swizzy cuts with covers for the moment. When/if the cold war ends, I will alter appropriately for posterity.
