I do not like Phantogram. There, I said it.

Same.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:15 (eleven years ago)

Have no use for candy-glossed, pseudo-romantic dance pop

this is perhaps the worst opinion i've ever read

I thought you said I was winning on this front today.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:15 (eleven years ago)

xp re: john beck i guess the shock to me is that 22 years after "sleeping satellite" he's still writing significant pop songs. 22 years! and where is tasmin archer now, i sometimes wonder.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:16 (eleven years ago)

xp - you are, but i get an honorable mention for poor taste in music

no Mmmmbob (contenderizer), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:17 (eleven years ago)

I am probably the only person who keeps trying to listen to Phantogram and realizes I accidentally have Pharmakon on my phone and listen to that instead and keep forgetting to load up Phantogram :/

― mh

Pharmakon is way better, so no real problem there.

emil.y, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:17 (eleven years ago)

When's Pharmakon going to place?

xpost to Moka: She was diplomatic about the video, but made it quite clear that the idea wasn't hers, and that in all other respects she controls her visuals. She alluded to some struggles with the label re. autonomous artistic choices, so perhaps this was the concession she had to make.

no Mmmmbob (contenderizer), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)

NB Solo Dancing absolutely isn't about masturbation. At all. She's confirmed that to me in person. It's in dancing-as-empowerment-metaphor territory.

― mike t-diva, miércoles 21 de enero de 2015 16:14 (43 seconds ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

I know it isn't! I got it was about dancing the first time around. But, was she annoyed at the label for sexing up the song and completely missing the point via the video?

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)

Oh got it nevermind!

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:19 (eleven years ago)

guys masturbation and dancing are both cool/great releases no need to choose

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:20 (eleven years ago)

Ha! I'd never thought of it before, but "U-Huh" really does sound like "Numb". Good call, whoever that was way upthread.

You don't get a threadban warning for poor taste in music unfortunately, contenderizer. But you can still try.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:22 (eleven years ago)

rip tasmin archer, truly you flew to the moon too soon

gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)

lorenzo mix of 'touch' was my number 1 / is the best thing ever but both are essential and need each other. follow-up was the excellent 'i know'.

dbs, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)

ha well at least this is the lowest tswift song placing

prolego, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:25 (eleven years ago)

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:25 (eleven years ago)

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)

I like this song. It's the first TSwift song I've heard I can say I genuinely like

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)

ha, turns out i did say that:

loving that Tkay Maidza-- has sort of a zooropa vibe to it

The Swiftstep has arrived.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)

the moment i really "got" young thug's deal was "try me" (the trae single not dej loaf) which is a song literally only i seem to give a shit about

Super late response but Try Me is great. Know it from lagoons mix so you're not alone

rob, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)

my ex was rly into "Solo Dancing" so I don't like it v much

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:27 (eleven years ago)

I didn't vote for any Taylor Swift in this poll but I don't mind "Shake It Off"

example (crüt), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

Bleah, "Shake It Off" gives me the hives most of you seem to get from "All About That Bass"

no Mmmmbob (contenderizer), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

hot takers gonna take take take take take

cajunsunday, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

"shake it off" is great but i never considered voting for it

i wish the production was richer and the bridge didn't exist but otherwise it's kind of impeccable

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

I voted for "Shake It Off" idc idc

EVERY HUGH JACKMAN HAS A VAN HELSING (some dude), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

why do people hate 'shake it off' so much? i'm not really that invested in tswift but is it because it's quite a different style for her? i find it ludicrously catchy.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

"Solo Dancing" was beloved by the Singles Jukebox; its novelty wore off damn quick.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

Not a fan of 'Shake It Off' but how is it so low?!?!?! I have clearly misread ilx.

emil.y, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

xposts the bridge is silly though yes.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)

the dancers in the video have nice muscles

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)

Radio opened "Shake It Off" to me, especially in Nov-Dec, but ugh no: still my least favorite track. What you naysayers said about Tuneyards applies more to "Shake It Off."

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)

i think this song is fine and possibly good

ciderpress, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:31 (eleven years ago)

I didn't vote for it and yes the breakdown is lame but there's something about the layers of melody that build up over the choruses that really works for me.

That it's deliberately clunky, needlessly arty and culturally appropriative?

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:31 (eleven years ago)

yes "shake it off" is catchy but the lyrics are some inane scribbles t-swift found in katy perry's bin, the production is thin and cheap and maybe it could've been elevated by one of her transcendent bridges but this bridge is the opposite of transcendent

if it was by rita ora or whoever then it'd be whatever but it's just so far beneath swift's standard

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:32 (eleven years ago)

"needlessly arty"

no Mmmmbob (contenderizer), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

"arty"

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:34 (eleven years ago)

Tune-Yards song is just gibberish

example (crüt), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:35 (eleven years ago)

xps ah i see. yeah i like it as a piece of infectious pop fluff. a very rare occasion where i was in my local shop and i found myself hooked to whatever was on the radio.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 16:36 (eleven years ago)

The label should have filled the 'shake it off' video with masturbation innuendos.
