They seem particularly influential with women that fancy themselves as trendy and fashion-aware.

out here like a flopson (tpp), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:19 (eleven years ago)

If Danny Glover and Lifestyle place then Thugger would have 4 (although two as features)

, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:20 (eleven years ago)

Lol I thought for sure gr80 was seguing into Fancy

all about that ace of base (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:20 (eleven years ago)

think i only heard the original twice as the lorenzo remix was imo so much of an improvement
excellent pick

nxd, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:20 (eleven years ago)

Phantogram was like a frozen pie in the freezer. never going to eat that, but you dont throw it away because its sell by date is 2018. I should just face up to the fact, its not any good, and put it in the bin

Ottbot jr (NickB), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:20 (eleven years ago)

"touch" is such a tune. didn't make my ballot but on another day or rather back in the summer it might have

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:21 (eleven years ago)

Phantogram was my #1, happy to see that place, also thanks to some dude, it was something he wrote either on here or his blog that persuaded me to give them a listen.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:21 (eleven years ago)

ah man this remix
:) :) :)

nxd, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:21 (eleven years ago)

I like this Shift K3Y, but Lorenzo mix is superior?

a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:22 (eleven years ago)

sorry I'm late

Uptown Funk - I'm cool w/this
J-Lo - love the ascending synth riff, this is good!
AM! - love this, love the E5 chord in the verse
Boss Ass Bitch - amazing, the best thing of hers I've heard so far
Haim - liek a funkier Quarterflash, definitely the "end of indie"
Migos - love this, like I'm kicking it on their front porch w/them, so relaxed
Alvvays - nice guitar, terrible vocals, good song though
Spoon - IT NEVER CHANGES
Sugah Daddy - this is amazing and I get Parade-era Prince vibes from it
Pendulum - a slow deliberate unfolding, didn't "get" this artist before but am interested now
QT - failed novelty or failed parody, it's terrible and unlistenable either way
Dark Horse - hey I've heard this, love the hypnotic dropout at 1:16, too bad about the rest
J Ware - no
Tuesday - like the background music, this is OK
Rita Ora - no
Mimipops - love it
Terje - OK I guess
Katy B - no
Shamir - bouncy in a good way
Javiera - this is very cool

Voted for the other Shift K3y track, but am glad he placed nonetheless.

Just dropping by to say
a) "Prayer" blows me away every time, probably voting for it next year if I can
b) It's really damn disconcerting to watch this thread turn into the US Congress (but maybe I'm forgetting that ILX used to be like that across the board)

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:23 (eleven years ago)

i'm liking "touch", the beginning esp is rly nice

dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:24 (eleven years ago)

never heard Shift K3y till Brad (i think?) repped for him in the voting thread, i like this track a lot but i like "Make It Good" even better, it does 80s freestyle/electro-throwback in a way that's really fresh compared to most electro throwback

(apols if that qualifies as my first spoiler, promise it will be my last, just wanna get that post in while its pertinent)

gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:24 (eleven years ago)

gr80 you hadn't seen Tim's shift k3y thread?

, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:25 (eleven years ago)

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:27 (eleven years ago)

There was a link to a shift k3y radio session posted near the start of their thread which was fantastic but I never really learned which track was which, just played the whole lot daily for about a month.

i repeat this to myself every morning upon waking

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:27 (eleven years ago)

Not a fan of his voice - sounds too boy-bandish to me - but this is a great song. If I picture it with Usher's voice it gets 1000x better.

I don't like Touch much because it is a romantic song that does not conjure, for me, romance, but then I do not club

Liking the Young Thug more and more in retrospect tho

telling like hot takes (imago), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:28 (eleven years ago)

"touch" is basically a perfect song, there's something about it that texture that just feels so right

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:29 (eleven years ago)

I'm not sure what I was expecting Shift K3y to be, but it certainly wasn't speed garage? I love this. The Lorenzo remix isn't doing nearly as much for me.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:29 (eleven years ago)

oh shit i forgot to post link to the lorenzo remix, sorry:

Ooh this Shift K3Y is nice. Hadn't heard of it before.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:36 (eleven years ago)

shift key one is weird, in places its like it could almost be quite good but its also simultaneously too irritating, but it has some plus points tucked away in there which is more than most of the others

the lorenzo version is straight up horrible

saer, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:37 (eleven years ago)

the original is way way way better, the whole appeal is its bubblegum aspect and despite the excellent drums the lorenzo mix pretty much excises that

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:42 (eleven years ago)

Forgive me, but I'm playing catch-up:

MONDAY:

Nicki Minaj – "Lookin Ass" – Nicki's rapping here has the bulldozing, incantatory power of Eminem's "Lose Yourself", and Detail's spare, propulsive production only enhances that furious drive. Love everything about this.

Owen Pallett – "Song for Five and Six" – Not "my kind of thing" in general, but this was my favorite In Conflict track on the first pass and holds up beautifully half a year down the road. Vision getting a little blurry even now…

Tune Yards – "Water Fountain" – Pop as I imagine David Byrne imagines it, for better and worse. I miss the noisy, brick-gnawing edge of Whokill standouts like "Bizness" and "Gangsta", but this does build to a satisfyingly rackety conclusion. Not great, but good for what it is.

Ninos Du Brasil – "Sombra da Lua" – Wow, first real discovery of this rollout: trippy, menacing and deeply hypnotic housemusic. Know nothing about NDB, but I now need to hear more. Thank you, ILX.

King – "Mister Chameleon" – Pleasantly soothing & sinuous R&B, though not in a style for which I particularly care, and the songwriting isn't strong enough to transcend it.

Katie Gately – "Pivot" – A loose collection of interesting noises and moments, but no more than that. Would like to have liked this, but inclusion among such bracingly immediate pop tracks does this sort of experimental esoterica no favors.

Ana Tijoux – "Somos Sur" – Lots of fun, sounds like ideal summertime party music. Agree w/ Tuomas, though: rap (especially political rap) relies so heavily on direct lyrical communication that I can't help but feel I'm missing half the picture here, even when reading along in translation.

Usher – "Good Kisser" – Completely brilliant, best track to place so far.

Nicki Minaj – "Anaconda" – Initially took this as dumb good fun and still enjoy the rapping, but the Sir Mix redux novelty appeal wore off quickly, and the 2nd half is cold garbage.

Davido – "Tchelete" – A pleasant surprise, though the lack of variation winds up stranded somewhere between wearying and hypnotic.

Royksopp & Robyn – "Do It Again" – Not a fan of either artist, so no surprise this isn't doing much for me.

Shakira – "Empire" – Her voice (or use of it) grates, and lines like "the stars make love to the universe" don't help, but that chorus is unfuckingdeniable.

St. Vincent – "Prince Johnny" – I like St. Vincent well enough, but this track isn't a personal favorite.

Duke Dumont – "I Got U" – I got bored.

Caribou – "Silver" – I could see this working extremely well under other circumstances, but by the cold & caffeinated light of day, it's merely pleasant.

no Mmmmbob (contenderizer), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:42 (eleven years ago)

maybe we'll still see "make it good" given how many ppl are like "i voted for that one instead," including me

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:44 (eleven years ago)

Think we'll see it given gr80's intimation of a spoiler upthread

, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:44 (eleven years ago)

or won't see it? having a hard time reading the right meaning into that spoiler

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:47 (eleven years ago)

great to see shift k3y regardless

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:48 (eleven years ago)

"make it good" is wonderful (especially so considering how different it is) and i never understood why they shoved it on the b-side (b-side! who the fuck even does those any more) instead of making it the follow-up single (which never came afaik). hearing "touch" in the wild really made it though

i assume if "make it good" was still to come gr80 wouldn't have posted it!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 15:50 (eleven years ago)

I've not got into Touch at all, it almost feels like it's already pitched up in the mix, which would be fine in that context but on its own I keep getting this sense that it's slipping by me faster than it should.
