Was it gr8080 who said that "U-Huh" had a Zooropa vibe?

― Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Wednesday, January 21, 2015 8:28 AM (2 minutes ago)

ha, i dont think so... but it sorta does!

gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:33 (eleven years ago)

a Zooropa remix maybe!

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:34 (eleven years ago)

Pooley made it!!!!! I had completely given up on it, and now I'm so so happy. I was one of the 3 #1 votes, of course. 320 with 8 votes, that's 40 per vote, is that the highest this year? So far?

Frederik B, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:35 (eleven years ago)

phantogram will always remind me of warm boozy butterfly-stomach makeouts bc this summer was the one time in my life when i was going on lots of 1st/2nd/3rd dates with lots of different women and every single one of them was obsessed with this band

i aint got no type/ phantogram girls is the only kind i like

phantogram: leading the cohort of our decadent promiscuous doom

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:38 (eleven years ago)

Phantogram come off to me a bit like less-interesting These New Puritans

not seeing this at all i'm afraid. lex was right, this sounds more like someone from the 90s who wasn't as good as moloko

Ottbot jr (NickB), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:40 (eleven years ago)

Naw you guys are crazy. Stoked this made it. My #1.

all about that ace of base (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:43 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, they really don't sound anything like These New Puritans. I only listened to the album once but aren't they closer to someone like Young Galaxy or Chairlift?

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:44 (eleven years ago)

Hey, I voted for Phantogram! It's all very "white ppl doing music black ppl did 10 years ago" (my frame of reference is early 2000s rap/r&b-radio soul chopups, rather than trip-hop) but such a well-done example thereof. Props to Some Dude and Ty Dolla Sign for getting me to listen to it.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:44 (eleven years ago)

There are definitely a type of women that love Phantogram. Was that single featured in some perfume ad or something? They seem particularly influential with women that fancy themselves as trendy and fashion-aware.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:46 (eleven years ago)

lol no comment

gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:46 (eleven years ago)

Phantogram, I love this song at first listen, didn't know it!

ciderpress, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:49 (eleven years ago)

"Pooley" is good, I think I prefer the other afrobeats track that placed cause it was more turnt up and emphatic whereas this one is more laidback and cool.

I think there are at least 8 songs on Black Messiah I prefer to "Church". It doesn't really go anywhere, even by D'angelo's standards. Most of his songs slide in hook that might not grab you til the 5th time you hear it but then never lets go. This one doesn't. That bell is great tho, yeah.

Tkay Maidza I thought was gonna be more afrobeats based on name/title, turns out it's sub-Azealia Banks mediocrity instead.

The Zooropa-vibe on U-Huh is because of the 'Numb'-like beat, right?

a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:51 (eleven years ago)

i like how this songs placement is also the title of a different track thugger was on in 2014

gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:51 (eleven years ago)

Btw Moka, can you please never type out "niggers" again? I was seeing all types of red for a minute. OK, thanks.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:52 (eleven years ago)

I like the version he did with Gucci Mane as well, this is the first one I have voted for that has featured.

gr8080, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:53 (eleven years ago)

Strictly speaking Stoner is a summer 2013 track but I guess it only really blew up in 2014 so I welcome its inclusion here.

longneck, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:54 (eleven years ago)

Did you listen to the Nicki Minaj song? You'll pass out from redness if you dislike that word.

Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:54 (eleven years ago)

yeah i like this track but it feels ancient

40 GURU "Pooley" immediately grabbed by the production which is rather tremendous. (caught a few seconds of the "boadicea" sample at the beginning, no?) it goes on a liiiittle too long but otherwise it's awesome, great new find.

39 D'ANGELO AND THE VANGUARD "Prayer" this is 'nice' or w/e but i'll go ahead and assume you have to experience it in context of the whole album which is what everyone has said about everything from black messiah lol

38 TKAY MAIDZA "U-Huh" almost too catchy. i think i've woken up in the middle of the night with it running through my head.

37 PHANTOGRAM "Fall In Love" already forgotten it.

36 YOUNG THUG "Stoner" yesssssss i didn't have room for it but thank goodness it placed. completely arresting from the first time i heard it on the radio.

dyl, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:55 (eleven years ago)

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:55 (eleven years ago)

"Stoner" is one of the those songs that completely blew my mind the first time I heard it. I thought it was like 5 different rappers. One of the things I love about Young Thug is how he's constantly switching up flows in the middle of verses. He has as many styles on one song as many rappers do period.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 14:59 (eleven years ago)

How would you know?
