I too want to clear that I said SOME of the people liking it don't seem consistent. Like, you have all these hipster fans of QT and PC music with so many guilty pleasures but then comes PC music and they feel like they can enjoy this and when their other hipster friends confront them about it they can say 'no man this is different, this is a satire about a soda can as a pop artist'.

Obviously noone in this forum give a fuck what other people think about their music taste. The QT conundrum doesn't apply in here.

QT is to Aqua what James Ferraro's 'Far Side Virtual' was to an old Encarta CD-Rom. I think where ILM is failing ITT is in separating bona fide pop with conceptual 'art' music.

another track i jammed all summer and totally forgot about when voting

heard and enjoyed "u-huh" when the singles jukebox covered her last year but forgot about it (because it didn't seem to be available to buy anywhere) until last week, when it came up on one of the nominations threads. really great, love the verses a bit more than the hook but it's a failure of so much of the music press that i didn't see a single other outlet talk about her

and now an ep with "u-huh" on it IS on itunes!

This is very likely to be Nicki Minaj a couple of years ago but there were a lot of Beyonce album tracks in the lower reaches of last year's poll as well.

Is there any kind of label push behind Tkai Maidza at all? Because it feels like the sort of thing that could be a hit in the UK but there doesn't appear to be any kind of organised campaign. She doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry ffs.

This band... I really enjoyed a 7 track EP I got sent by them a few years back, but their similarity to a lot of other 'Shambala' pop stopped me investigating further.

They're one of those bands that had an interesting debut but every new album they seem to lose more and more the initial charm.

never heard of this band, sounds like third-tier late 90s trip-hop with cheaper synths. vocal is reminiscent of mono or people like that but this isn't grabbing me at all

This Phantogram single is gorgeous. Couldn't really get into the rest of the album but ended up putting this in my top five after only hearing it on the nominations playlist.

My first encounter with Phantogram was by recommendation from Ty Dolla $ign.

"U-Huh" is very good though I slightly prefer Tkay Maidza's "Switch Lanes."

This single is good but I feel like I should be listening to Little Dragon instead when it's playing.

Ha was just going to say there's something very 90s about this and saw the lex had made the same point. Third tier p harsh but it's not doing much for me.
