2011 - 212 - Azealia / Video Games - Lana Del Rey (4 points between first and second so basically tied for first imo)
this was definitely not a tie

Sounds like a forks display name (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:08 (eleven years ago)

There's a bittersweetness to both songs, but it's hardly either's dominant feature. xxxp

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:08 (eleven years ago)

shake it off is the consensus #1 song of all time, people just haven't realized it yet

qualx, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:09 (eleven years ago)

I quit earth if Taylor wins again.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:09 (eleven years ago)

i think if tswift had released "style" as her first single it would have probably been our #1

instead we got fucking "shake of off" which will probably still reach the top 10 in a year with no real consensus

This is otm. 'Shake it off' doesn't belong anywhere near a top ten place thh.

I would think Blank Space and Style will place from the Swift album, maaaaaaaybe Shake It Off just b/c of ubiquity although I recall the reaction here being either ambivalence or disgust. If New Romantics or You Are In Love hadn't been bonus tracks they'd've had a better chance I think.

bae sremmurd (monotony), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:10 (eleven years ago)

Careful Rev, wouldn't put my fate in ILM's hands like that... :-/

just want to say in advance of the upcoming results you guys listen to taylor swift huh whatre you little girls (apologies to any ilm posters who are little girls)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:11 (eleven years ago)

Voting for Shake It Off never even once crossed my mind. Instead, I voted for one of the outliers.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:11 (eleven years ago)

I felt a sense of relief when "Shake It Off" didn't top the P&J poll, forgetting for a moment that we still had ILM ahead.

That shit right there is precedented. (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:11 (eleven years ago)

"blank space" will probably be higher

k3vin k., Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:12 (eleven years ago)

apology accepted

Dunno why I'm being so coy. It's never been a secret my favorite track on 1989 is All You Had to Do Was Stay.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:13 (eleven years ago)

Xp, me too.,Clean was my highest placed swift vote iirc

a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:13 (eleven years ago)

feel pretty comfortable predicting "style" will be the highest placing t-swift track by some distance

lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:13 (eleven years ago)

Still think a top five place could be in the cards for Two Week by Twigsy. Which would be awesome.

a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:15 (eleven years ago)

I noticed around the holiday that "Blank Space" had become the default hey-Taylor-Swift-isn't-so-bad track among people who avoid her and pop.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:16 (eleven years ago)

would wager that most votes for "shake it off" either had another swift track on the ballot or were from people that did not hear the album

bae sremmurd (monotony), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:16 (eleven years ago)

Rooting for SviiB

ewar woowar (or something), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:16 (eleven years ago)

"style" will suffer because its not on youtube or spotify but the ppl that like it *really* like it.

prolego, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:16 (eleven years ago)

I don't think SKM will place.

campreverb, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:19 (eleven years ago)

What is that, btw?

lol this logic pops up every year. (i know i'm guilty of it too but)

sometimes people just like songs

qualx, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:21 (eleven years ago)

131 people voted in the tracks poll, and there have not been 131 people commenting in this thread, so I have no idea what the lurkers are into.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:22 (eleven years ago)

SKM is sun kil moon

bae sremmurd (monotony), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:22 (eleven years ago)

oh right, duh me

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:23 (eleven years ago)

Tracks poll won by an album track would be...different, although I guess 'Style' is a future single.

nashwan, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:24 (eleven years ago)

"shake it off" is still in the itunes top 10 in the uk and us close to 6 months after its release. loads of people dig it.

prolego, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:24 (eleven years ago)

who the devil is taylor swift

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:27 (eleven years ago)

there has been a near-maddening debate in australia this past week over "shake it off" and whether or not it ought to be allowed in competition for a poll conducted by a publicly-funded alternative radio station

bae sremmurd (monotony), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:27 (eleven years ago)

sorry end of the day brain. well for whatever reason, Carissa wasn't nominated was it?
I can just see Benji having 10 different tracks voted for (I would have voted for Pray For Newtown), and without Carissa I think the vote splits.

I was too concerned with nominating Alvvays.

campreverb, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:29 (eleven years ago)

great 20 today
first 17 were def more up my street but the couple of tracks i hadn't heard before (gately and migos) - five thumbs up

nxd, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:31 (eleven years ago)

hey qt was too low, I was hoping for top 20 for the meltdowns alone.
anyway glad to see my #1 wasn't wasted.

olly, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:34 (eleven years ago)

All the pc music fans should have got behind Beautiful.

ewar woowar (or something), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:40 (eleven years ago)

starting to worry Stara Rzeka won't pull this off after all

nashwan, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:43 (eleven years ago)

or in front of the artillery xp

seandalai, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:45 (eleven years ago)

threw some pts to beautiful
my #1 was a pc music track which I'm guessing won't place but hey ho

nxd, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:46 (eleven years ago)

Responses right after Hey QT placing are the best thing on this thread so far tbh

curious about the sample size of this study

"Blank Space" is the one that sounds like Don Henley "Heart of the Matter" right?

well, yeah

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 00:51 (eleven years ago)

nah it's the one whose intro sounds like Club Nouveau's "Why You Treat Me So Bad."

I'm back! Best discovery of the day by FAR is Shamir! :D So exuberant and entertaining! His aesthetic is flippant without losing its groove - it makes for a very engaging play. The critiques of preciousness and irksomeness make some sense, but I am both precious and irksome, so fuck you all ;)

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 January 2015 01:07 (eleven years ago)

Shamir was my number 2. I don't really get some of the comparisons, I totally love his voice so much and if you'd speculated to me I'd like a song of his more than 'If It Wasn't True' in the middle of the year I'd have whutted you out of the county.

Basically / I Don't Wanna Be / An mp3 / 3-2-0 kb / ps (Craigo Boingo), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 01:11 (eleven years ago)

"212" seems like an incredibly reductive point of reference for the Shamir track. "212" is an aggressive and declaratory punch, whereas "On The Regular" is basically a curtsy.

If we're talking structure then yes, they both feature raps and a sung breakdown, but don't tonnes of songs?

bae sremmurd (monotony), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 01:15 (eleven years ago)

When I first heard "Blank Space", I thought it was the first TS song I'd ever hated. Somehow it managed to grow on me; pretty sure I love it by now.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 21 January 2015 01:24 (eleven years ago)

I still think it sounds like Avril Lavigne and, therefore, I can't stand it.
