the success of commercial pop house weirdly almost requires that its performers be ~as anonymous as she was back when she broke w/ "katy on a mission"

having "still" be the next single was the dumbest decision ever lol

I never felt like she was anonymous until this year!

the campaign ended when "still" completely bombed. it was a ridiculous choice for a follow up single when she finally had momentum, but then i expected nothing less when her team couldn't even make the correct decisions on what should go on the standard version of the album.

I loved this for about a week but I'm happy to see it.

on the real tho the entire singles campaign was fucked up, that "crying for no reason" got that high was probably a miracle if you consider what came before it

and i don't understand why she released the danger ep when "aaliyah" and "got paid" could've been huge lead singles for the album proper. oh well.

Shamir is one of those people who are just this close to something I would unreservedly love but somehow manage to get it completely wrong.

i think shamir has so much potential and i am really excited to see what he does but i don't love this track as much as i want to, the raps are kinda wooden. i like his ep.

definitely but i meant more in the sing-y sense, i mean you have guys like z-ro and nate dogg who were doing the singy raps but were decidedly more gangster, plus you have gangster rappers who are also emo like pac and scarface, but before kanye and drake who were the emo rap/singers of today like future and quan influenced by, if anyone?

hey thx Rev, i'll look into those earlier migos tapes. there were some things on RNT that stuck out but it's all kind of submerged for me at the moment. truth be told: i do a lot of deep listening in the car, and this tape is longer than a standard cd! i had to split it up on two discs and tbh i don't think i played the 2nd half, whoops.

This Shamir tune is okay, definitely better than Tune-Yards one... But between those and some other tunes in this poll, I gotta ask, why does artsy electro/house/pop rap of today always have to sound so goddamn hyperactive, like everyone's eaten three too many boxes of Cheerios? Very happy to see Delorean Dynamite place. It's my favourite song on the album that isn't Inspector Norse.

I'm with J0rdan on the Katy B song. Didn't rate it the first couple of times I heard it but that Graham Norton performance was really something. The album campaign was so frustrating to see. There were a fair few potential hits on that album, Still wasn't one of them. Aaliyah was supposed to be the next single after that but seems like they gave up before it got a chance.

on the regular is just a fun song, some of the lyrics are corny but overall a nice lil package

I didn't really care about anything on the Terje album that wasn't already on It's the Arps.

Only thing I voted for that's placed (so far) today is "Champagne Kisses" - I like the JW album a lot more than most other people seem to but agree this is a standout track.

Definitely itching to listen to a rapper in 2014 who's first instincts include sending a demo tape to Nick Sylvester
