i'm blanking on who the antecedent emo rappers must be

Scarface and 2pac.

― The Reverend, Tuesday, January 20, 2015 3:22 PM (5 seconds ago)

definitely but i meant more in the sing-y sense, i mean you have guys like z-ro and nate dogg who were doing the singy raps but were decidedly more gangster, plus you have gangster rappers who are also emo like pac and scarface, but before kanye and drake who were the emo rap/singers of today like future and quan influenced by, if anyone? where do singy pop-rappers like nelly and ja rule fit into this?

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:26 (eleven years ago)

I just can't find a way into this Aphex Twin track (or Aphex Twin in general).

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:29 (eleven years ago)

jk this is probably my favorite of his tracks now, super fun

feel like when people say emo rap they mean at least a few diff streams one of which flows from pac and face but another the kayne drake feeling sorry for myself version does not have too much connection to that in lineage or vibe

I think you also have to think about z-ro, nate dogg, ja rule and nelly

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:32 (eleven years ago)

lol dayo

flopson, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:32 (eleven years ago)

one of my favourite songs of 2014 was this z-ro song

flopson, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:33 (eleven years ago)

cant believe kev and dan are trying to clown me about this emo rap xp im frankly embarrassed for them tbh

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:34 (eleven years ago)

maybe z-ro and nate dogg's music should be better described as rappy sings, not singy raps, this is important

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:35 (eleven years ago)

aphex makes some really ugly ass boring music, probably not a fair assessment seeing as I haven't listened too him since his drill n bass period, but the prejudice remains and I just know I won't like it.

xelab, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:35 (eleven years ago)

Everybody forgetting about bone thugs ;_;

, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:36 (eleven years ago)

terje album sounded kinda oddly unfinished to me but i really like "delorean dynamite"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:36 (eleven years ago)

oh shit yeah xp

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:36 (eleven years ago)

i dont think its the being sad so much its the looking out the window when its raining. I dont think anyone has a problem with being sad, Im sad sometimes when i think about my mum not being as mobile as she used to be, its perfectly valid

saer, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:36 (eleven years ago)

if nate dogg is too gangster to be in the emo-rap lineage than bone thugs definitely are

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:37 (eleven years ago)

right now we're in the identifying stage we can narrow down later xp

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:38 (eleven years ago)

terje is pleasant enough but ive used up my opinions for the year at this point

saer, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:38 (eleven years ago)

making my way through the playlist now, prob will skip stuff i've already heard/like...this rita ora song isn't terrible but mostly bc it's not markedly identifable as rita ora or anybody else really, it's just an ok lacking-in-identity pop song

i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:39 (eleven years ago)

feel like a lot of the emo rap discrepancies boil down more to generational differences than like musical things or specifically hiphop culture things

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:39 (eleven years ago)

Isn't the story on It's Album Time that it really was unfinished, due to some health crisis in Terje's family last year?

excreting zeitgeist (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:42 (eleven years ago)

so over todd terje. should be sewn up inside his own poncho and dumped in the baltic

Ottbot jr (NickB), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:43 (eleven years ago)

idk is it

i'm cool w terje just tired ignorant and in need of coffee

languagelessness (mattresslessness), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:43 (eleven years ago)

finished or not, i was album time

gr8080, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:44 (eleven years ago)

wonder if the Bryan Ferry collab will score

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:44 (eleven years ago)

people just like to say 'bryan ferry'

languagelessness (mattresslessness), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:44 (eleven years ago)

Delorean Dynamite sounds like all the other "outrun" stuff based on the old Cannon film incidental music, except it's higher profile due to him being him. I dunno. No bigs.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:45 (eleven years ago)

someone shd name a ferry boat bryan that wld be good

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:45 (eleven years ago)

"you take the bryan ferry ... " *chuckles*

So am I, coming down with flu and it can't be unrelated, listening to all these is very draining! Luckily I can tell with most of them if I dislike within 5 seconds due to awful sound palette, but even so

saer, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:47 (eleven years ago)

The todd Terje album was a non event to me and I love todd Terje but as soon as I heard Delorean Dynamite I knew it'd be amazing if I ever heard it out and when I finally did it was. My 2nd pick to place and knew itd be one of the few.

niiiiiice

i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:50 (eleven years ago)

That song was really the beginning of the end for Katy B. Guy Chambers really should not have been allowed anywhere near her.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 20:50 (eleven years ago)

I was like "uhhhh" when I heard it a year (!) ago but Katy made this Diane Warren-esque pop ballad work.
