to my ears pc music occupies the same space that oneohtrix point never does xp

yeah i'm not ~offended that it's mocking me or my purported taste, i just think it's a lazy and basic way to parody pop that's ultimately pretty pointless and way less interesting than the ways in which pop already parodies and satirises and comments on itself. and it doesn't sound strange, just garish, though not all that much more garish than any given bottom-tier calvin harris production

Hey QT is decent but not a patch on the best GFOTY or Hannah Diamond stuff. Don't find PC Music contemptuous of pop music at all. Love their palette.

I like "Hey QT" but don't really care about whatever ethos is behind PC Music. I just find the song catchy. Can definitely see how some might find it irritating, though; my wife does.

i think the idea that pc music is a commentary or satire of popular music is way overstated

i think lj's cheerleading of QT song is sus (how is this a 'total blast conceptually'? what is the concept? just LOL at the thought of someone having a blast pondering the conceptual implications of a chiptune song) but idgaf and as j0rdan's rightly notes some of the ag cook songs are p cute & good

i think it's funny to contrast the reactions rebecca black's "friday" initially got from pop fans (at the very beginning before it reached wider more contemptuous circles). also strange deformed pop that subconsciously said a lot about the music industry and pop songwriting and yet so many reactions were "yasssss queen of pop best music ever", like totally being in on the joke and enjoying it as a collective experience, acknowledging and treating it as camp. pop fans totally take the piss out of pop all the time! we don't need pc music garbage to try and overtly make a statement.

Dark horse is the only Katy perry song I like but I don't really like it

"dark horse" is a comfortable middle ground katy perry song for me -- she has a handful that i love unconditionally and a bunch that i think are wack ... very few that kind of sit in between, this is one of them

there's something about the chord progression in this track that keeps me coming back to it... You can clearly hear the germ of a traditional pop/trance song in the breakdown in the middle - but that's both hidden within and played off all these seemingly random chromatics, transitional chords, and the twisted vocals. 4 minutes might be too long but this has definite replay value.

I think Katy did say it was her favourite on the album at some point. Proof that artists often don't know what their strongest material is.

i don't know how anyone can love a katy perry ballad

As somebody who mainly hears contemporary anything only from our monthly car rentals and my kids' demand for KISS FM - that station is so repetitive that from month to month, I hear nearly the identical playlist from the last time - I became a big fan of "Dark Horse". I think it was on all year long.

"teenage dream" is and maybe always will be her best

Both are taken from "It's So Hard" by Big Pun, who had recently died at the time of the MOP track and grew up in the Bronx as did J. Lo and French Montana.

Hey QT was the only PC Music song besides AG Cook's remix of Repeat Pleasure I could get behind this year. Didn't vote for it, but it'll be a nice artifact of 2014 ten years from now.

Love Dawn Richard's "Dark Horse"; Katy Perry's is fine.

dark horse was one of the only remotely good songs on prism but didn't the single version come out in 2013?

"california gurls" is perry's best imo though it's sort of hobbled by her vocals are near to their most irritating on it

Feels so weird to me that someone would be familiar with the "Ante Up" remix but not "It's So Hard".

Perry's performance of Dark Horse at the Grammy's really soured me on that track.

Dark Horse is one of the few Katy Perry that can truly sustain repeated listens.
