I can just about envisage a version of pc music I'd like which is basically that Wax Stag album from a few years back with old hyper Eurodance/happy hardcore style vocals glazed over it and without any of the winky knowing pop4indies shit and it's vinyl only and you can't afford it.
― nashwan, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 17:58 (eleven years ago)
this is song sounds like what a sodastream would sing to a kettle it quite fancied from across an empty worktop

i can't listen to "hey qt"
― example (crüt), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 17:59 (eleven years ago)
why are the only people who like "hey qt" etc. the same people who h8 the music 'qt' is trying and failing to comment on tho
― dyl, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 17:59 (eleven years ago)
Never heard of QT before, but I think the tune's okay...? Though I can't for the life of me figure out why it has the chipmunk vocals and some of the other distracting gimmicks? The vocal and synth melodies are pretty catchy in themeselves, this would be a Eurodance floor-filler without the gimmicks. Is it supposed to be ironic? Why work so hard for the jam, but then at the very last moment be like, na-ah, you can't have the jam?

Must admit I'd kinda like to hear Hannah Diamond actually sing this now (if she didn't already).
― nashwan, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:01 (eleven years ago)
Only heard QT once and it was what it was. Not sure why it solicits so much reaction from either side. The fact it does though, makes me want to like it more.so what is the background to the argument here?
― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:02 (eleven years ago)
I think there is a version of this somewhere with the vocals slowed to a normal pitch. It doesn't sound much different
― Dan S, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:04 (eleven years ago)
so what is the background to the argument here?
Some people liked it and some other people said no. I missed most of the debate as i dont have a tv

Also, to people who assume that pop fans must hate QT because it's mocking pop: I don't care much for the styles of pop QT is mocking either so...

to my ears pc music occupies the same space that oneohtrix point never does xp
― nothing but rap and country (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:08 (eleven years ago)
yeah i'm not ~offended that it's mocking me or my purported taste, i just think it's a lazy and basic way to parody pop that's ultimately pretty pointless and way less interesting than the ways in which pop already parodies and satirises and comments on itself. and it doesn't sound strange, just garish, though not all that much more garish than any given bottom-tier calvin harris production
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:08 (eleven years ago)
Hey QT is decent but not a patch on the best GFOTY or Hannah Diamond stuff. Don't find PC Music contemptuous of pop music at all. Love their palette.

I like "Hey QT" but don't really care about whatever ethos is behind PC Music. I just find the song catchy. Can definitely see how some might find it irritating, though; my wife does.

i think lj's cheerleading of QT song is sus (how is this a 'total blast conceptually'? what is the concept? just LOL at the thought of someone having a blast pondering the conceptual implications of a chiptune song) but idgaf and as j0rdan's rightly notes some of the ag cook songs are p cute & good
― flopson, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:11 (eleven years ago)
i think it's funny to contrast the reactions rebecca black's "friday" initially got from pop fans (at the very beginning before it reached wider more contemptuous circles). also strange deformed pop that subconsciously said a lot about the music industry and pop songwriting and yet so many reactions were "yasssss queen of pop best music ever", like totally being in on the joke and enjoying it as a collective experience, acknowledging and treating it as camp. pop fans totally take the piss out of pop all the time! we don't need pc music garbage to try and overtly make a statement.
― prolego, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:11 (eleven years ago)

Dark horse is the only Katy perry song I like but I don't really like it
― o.m.g. lol @ hurt butt (wins), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:14 (eleven years ago)
"dark horse" is a comfortable middle ground katy perry song for me -- she has a handful that i love unconditionally and a bunch that i think are wack ... very few that kind of sit in between, this is one of them
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:14 (eleven years ago)
prolego otm
lol, i'd managed to avoid "dark horse" til now, it's not that bad and coming after qt is probably the only context in which katy perry isn't grating
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:14 (eleven years ago)
i meant prolego otm about qt but also dawn richard, yes
katy perry is extremely bizarre whats her deal

I'd actually like this more without the Juicy J verse :/
― example (crüt), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:15 (eleven years ago)
on Hey QT...
there's something about the chord progression in this track that keeps me coming back to it... You can clearly hear the germ of a traditional pop/trance song in the breakdown in the middle - but that's both hidden within and played off all these seemingly random chromatics, transitional chords, and the twisted vocals. 4 minutes might be too long but this has definite replay value.

― J0rdan S
Is this a pun on which songs of hers you do love or is it just accidental?
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:16 (eleven years ago)
The gulf between how much I like "Dark Horse"'s verses vs how much I like the chorus is remarkable.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:17 (eleven years ago)
it was hilarious when she inadvertently burned the word "allah" into ashes the video too

I think Katy did say it was her favourite on the album at some point. Proof that artists often don't know what their strongest material is.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 18:20 (eleven years ago)
i don't know how anyone can love a katy perry ballad
she's stuff on songs like "california girls". the more anonymous the better. preferably with a guest rap so she has less time to sing.
