an indies idea of what pop is is maybe the most telling and horrific display of all

Idk I think bands like the knife came along and made spoon seem dull

Is that supposed to be some sort of cutlery pun?

MarkoP, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:22 (eleven years ago)

I like Spoon well enough. There, you can call them indie if you like. They've never released a perfect album, but there are always a few choice cuts from each release. This is the one that stuck out most the one time I listened through to the latest one. Similar vibe to 'Us & Them' by Pink Floyd crossed with 'Huey Newton' by St Vincent.

lol xp

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:22 (eleven years ago)

I was very into Spoon for a while in the 2000s but I've quite definitively stopped caring about them. This is fine I guess. I like when the harp suddenly appears.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:23 (eleven years ago)

I think Spoon is the first track I've actually had to turn off before the end?

I wish Kitchen Person had said this.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)

I see you've played knifey-spoony before.

jmm, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)

I love how Britt Daniel keeps thinking he'll make his band more popular by writing crappier songs.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)

xxpost yeah, or forks

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)

break out of character for me

ciderpress, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)

this track is kinda nice in a never-listen-to-again kind of way

dyl, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:25 (eleven years ago)

Fer crying out loud, these indie rock tracks are giving me dysentery. Absolutely sickening and disgusting.

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:25 (eleven years ago)

Oh no, wait, I turned off Duke Dumont too.

xp to me

emil.y, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:25 (eleven years ago)

this really epitomises plodding, ponderous journeyman indie to me. ugh, the culture that pitchfork created

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:25 (eleven years ago)

idgi, this is one of the most inoffensive things here.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)

Well this list went downhill fast...

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)

don't really listen to much indie any more, but played the shit out of this Spoon lp. this was one of my least faves on it though.

jamiesummerz, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)

but....they are more popular

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

this is the 'ballad' on the album tbf.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

really smh that spoon have better p4k/p&j stats than most everything else that has placed so far

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

No, I mean I think the guy has totally unrealistic expectations about them being a huge band. That's why he keeps trying to sign to major labels. "It's gonna work this time, I can feel it!"

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

more like wooden spoon amirite

Ottbot jr (NickB), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)

spoon? dorks more like

nashwan, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)

xp what are you talking about, they signed to a major once in the 90s when everyone did and one more time like 15 years later

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:32 (eleven years ago)

Plodding, ponderous journeyman indie was a well established genre before the world wide web.

I'm pleased to note there's 6 acts named Fork, the most popular being a Norwegian hardcore band.

You're my vvondervvall (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:32 (eleven years ago)

hey heeey marry me aaarrrchieeee

nothing but rap and country (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

lol all the hate on indie, haven't seen this big of a closet since I was in Catholic school.

campreverb, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

xp Yeah, and most pragmatic and reasonable artists would get the hint the first time.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

next result y/n?

gr8080, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:35 (eleven years ago)

I hit it so I made the pussy fart

The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:39 (eleven years ago)

I voted for Prayer, but I probs should've voted for this one.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:39 (eleven years ago)

great song

The difference between hearing this on my macbook speakers and my monitor room is INCREDIBLE.

Please rent a studio and enjoy this album in a high quality setup, it deserves it.

Messiah indeed

o.m.g. lol @ hurt butt (wins), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:40 (eleven years ago)

love that Spoon showed up, one of the best songs on their latest album. oh and Johnny Fever hates them has a thing about posting that opinion even in Spoon threads.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:41 (eleven years ago)

This one just missed my ballot I think. Great song.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:41 (eleven years ago)

ya that is a super boring spoon song. huh.

alvvays: can't help but see this as the kind of deeply boring thing that could only pop off in toronto but maybe that's just the hater in me

kind of crazy only 7 people voted for YRN, felt like that was one of the big ones in terms of consensus rap songs. also whoever is downloading straye thugs make sure to swap out the awful quality mixtape version of YRN for a cdq/nodj

d'ange :)

flopson, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:41 (eleven years ago)

voted 4 the album but this is such a wonderful song, i remember him playing it on his comeback tour a few years ago and finally getting a studio version out of nowhere was one of the best days in 2014

"really love" is the pinnacle of the album to me, i wonder if that'll place

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:43 (eleven years ago)

oh wait no i did vote for Sugah Daddy.

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:45 (eleven years ago)

ugh god actually reading the lyrics to "Sugah Daddy" is srsly creepin me out

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:45 (eleven years ago)

tbc, I'm not part of the kneejerk anti-indie people in these threads. I spend probably half of my music listening time listening to indie things. But consensus indie picks around here are terrible usually.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:45 (eleven years ago)

i mean i voted for it bcz it's a jam but damn

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:46 (eleven years ago)
