well that sure breaks a pretty encouraging streak of songs that weren't indie rock garbage
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:12 (eleven years ago)
saer, it does matter because all too often you get sweeping generalisations about 'indie music' on ILM which end up not being about indie music at all.
bugger, i appear to have summoned ILM discussion monster #4.
Next track please!

Like Best Coast but blasted out and better produced, which could make a difference for me. Do they have a cat?
― american tail/american pie (how's life), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:13 (eleven years ago)
Tbh I'm sympathetic to the idea that Haim represent some sort of "end of indie", but that's completely because they are indie, not because they are not.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:14 (eleven years ago)
alvvays album is much better than best coast true, bestest coast imo
― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:14 (eleven years ago)
I kinda liked one of those New Pornographers tracks in the nominations list quite unexpectedly. Not expecting to see it here tho.
― nashwan, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:15 (eleven years ago)
#notallindie
― telling like hot takes (imago), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:15 (eleven years ago)
I liked the one New Porn song I randomly heard once! It was a long time ago tho. Like probably ten years.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:16 (eleven years ago)
hey guys lets keep talking about indie ok

I will not now and never will stan for this Alvvays track, but the exasperated reaction to it even daring to appear in the 50s is hilarious.

Y'all should've saved your bile for this crap.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)
damn has it really been 10 years since Twin Cinema
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)
spoon is indie but i like them
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)
love this spoon song. love all spoon songs
I have no idea why Spoon inspire such intense antipathy tbh
― Simon H., Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)
top comment under the video lol
sperminator oftheasshole 1 month ago oh wow its another indie rock song wow look its all arty and shit, wow
― prolego, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:19 (eleven years ago)
the steely dan of indie rock
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:20 (eleven years ago)
i listened to this album a bunch tho i didnt really like it that much just fills a need i guess
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:20 (eleven years ago)
Idk I think bands like the knife came along and made spoon seem dull
― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:20 (eleven years ago)
GrinningPariah1 week ago Honestly, it's not really an indie rock song. It's an indie rock band that decided to make a pop album, which is interesting.
― nothing but rap and country (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:20 (eleven years ago)
put a fork in em theyre done
My Spoon argument, pt. 854. I quite like pre-00s Spoon, but 00s and on Spoon may as well be an entirely different band, one that has consistently shit on any good will I had left for them.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:21 (eleven years ago)
OMG this fucking Spoon track. I want to pull out my ears. UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:21 (eleven years ago)
this song sounded like a crazy anomaly in the spoon sound when it turned up on spotify shuffle
but it was just as calmly, efficiently, decently dull as all their music
like I say, the indie that appears here is not necessarily representative of what indie can do
― telling like hot takes (imago), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:21 (eleven years ago)
Didn't go back to the Spoon album at all really but this was the highlight.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:21 (eleven years ago)
an indies idea of what pop is is maybe the most telling and horrific display of all
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:21 (eleven years ago)
Is that supposed to be some sort of cutlery pun?
― MarkoP, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:22 (eleven years ago)
I like Spoon well enough. There, you can call them indie if you like. They've never released a perfect album, but there are always a few choice cuts from each release. This is the one that stuck out most the one time I listened through to the latest one. Similar vibe to 'Us & Them' by Pink Floyd crossed with 'Huey Newton' by St Vincent.
― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:22 (eleven years ago)
lol xp
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:22 (eleven years ago)
I was very into Spoon for a while in the 2000s but I've quite definitively stopped caring about them. This is fine I guess. I like when the harp suddenly appears.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:23 (eleven years ago)
I think Spoon is the first track I've actually had to turn off before the end?
― emil.y, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:23 (eleven years ago)
I wish Kitchen Person had said this.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)
I see you've played knifey-spoony before.
― jmm, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)
I love how Britt Daniel keeps thinking he'll make his band more popular by writing crappier songs.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)
xxpost yeah, or forks
― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)
break out of character for me
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)
this track is kinda nice in a never-listen-to-again kind of way
― dyl, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:25 (eleven years ago)
Fer crying out loud, these indie rock tracks are giving me dysentery. Absolutely sickening and disgusting.
― kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:25 (eleven years ago)
Oh no, wait, I turned off Duke Dumont too.
xp to me
― emil.y, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:25 (eleven years ago)
this really epitomises plodding, ponderous journeyman indie to me. ugh, the culture that pitchfork created

― The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)
Well this list went downhill fast...
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)
don't really listen to much indie any more, but played the shit out of this Spoon lp. this was one of my least faves on it though.

― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)
really smh that spoon have better p4k/p&j stats than most everything else that has placed so far
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)
No, I mean I think the guy has totally unrealistic expectations about them being a huge band. That's why he keeps trying to sign to major labels. "It's gonna work this time, I can feel it!"
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)
more like wooden spoon amirite
― Ottbot jr (NickB), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:30 (eleven years ago)
