this is a bit like Best Coast 'Boyfriend' - whatever happened to them? in the studio perhaps, recording some new songs I dare say

i wasn't rly into the migos track that ppl seemed to get behind this year ("fight night"), kinda liked "handsome and wealthy" better

"fight night" is the best of them all imo though i didn't vote for it; i think migos songs work super-well in isolation but their albums and mixtapes tend to get samey

this alvvays song is terrible

i listened to some of the pazz an jop albums list and there seems to be an uptick in this kind of lofi-ish flat affect female vocals garage-y indie thing that never quite goes out of style

this one sounds like particularly 90s tho

This is very anglo-american sounding. Very good opening line, does nothing else for me.

I've not heard them yet but just... I mean, ALVVAYS?! That's up there with Test Icicles, the Dandy Warhols, Joanna Gruesome and Eagulls for all time egregiously pointless band names.

love love the whole Alvvays album, and this is the best track, or at least the most memorable.

I have yet to really listen to Alvvays, so all I really know about them is that the lead singer is the daughter of one of the members of The Rankin Family.

never would seek this kinda music out in 2014 but this song was a gut-punch, prob played it two dozen times since getting the results on saturday

The Alvvays album is perfectly pleasant imo, but there are songs on it I like more than this one.

It doesnt matter what the classification is, it matters if it makes a sound that is good for the welfare of the person listening and it didnt do that

when i was a youth i was hugely into indie rock but a lot of that wldnt fit into the definition these days tbh

well that sure breaks a pretty encouraging streak of songs that weren't indie rock garbage

saer, it does matter because all too often you get sweeping generalisations about 'indie music' on ILM which end up not being about indie music at all.

Tbh I'm sympathetic to the idea that Haim represent some sort of "end of indie", but that's completely because they are indie, not because they are not.

alvvays album is much better than best coast true, bestest coast imo

I kinda liked one of those New Pornographers tracks in the nominations list quite unexpectedly. Not expecting to see it here tho.
