group effort btw thanks to the young thug thread team
ahh thx rev!! :D
er wait it says the file is not available, is that just me?
― dyl, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:44 (eleven years ago)
"yrn" is great, i don't really get the cult of young thug but i def prefer his energetic mode to his emotional mode, though there isn't the sense of contrast that made his verse on trae's "try me" so powerful to me. slept on migos for too much of 2014 bc i assumed they were one-hit wonders, don't intend to do that in 2015
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:44 (eleven years ago)
i wasn't rly into the migos track that ppl seemed to get behind this year ("fight night"), kinda liked "handsome and wealthy" better

also apparently the singer and I worked at the same bar at different times
can't believe I hadn't heard YRN till now
― example (crüt), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:50 (eleven years ago)
I love how each verse of "YRN" they start with an energetic delivery, then dial it back a bit before bringing the full energy back on the last line. That's super effective.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:50 (eleven years ago)
oh hey my no. 2

This was my #2 and was gonna be my #1 for large portions of this year. Young Thug dominates the track obviously but Quavo's "Y-R-N/ I'm in love with Benjamin Frank-a-lin" is my favorite line. Whoever it was on twitter who said they needed a whole album of Migos and Young Thug going off over old exotica records OTM. Speaking of which, has anybody figured out what that sample is?

My #2 as well
― 龜, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:50 (eleven years ago)
fuck is this?
― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:50 (eleven years ago)
Also I think it was Rev who said that YRN is a Young Thug song featuring Migos and not the other way around
now THIS is or maybe isn't indie

Great song. Probably my favourite indie album of the year.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:51 (eleven years ago)
adding grist to my argument that when indie does make it, it's usually boring dreck
― telling like hot takes (imago), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:51 (eleven years ago)
with a fucking terrible bandname
can't help but hear Edith Bunker singing this song
― example (crüt), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:52 (eleven years ago)
I am very vvary of bands who do the whole 1337 spelling thing, like Chvrches etc.
― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:52 (eleven years ago)
i hate this song.
i hate a lot of the songs so far tbh.

not the only "ft young thug" you could say that abt tbh
― gr8080, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:52 (eleven years ago)
i recently heard this for the first time. i had already heard some other alvvays song and had basically written them off as some horrendous twee indie rock group but there's something about this song that i find rather affecting.

i liked sambros, the holly herndon, and yrn--those were great discoveries.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:54 (eleven years ago)
My second song to place, I thought it was doomed.
― campreverb, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:54 (eleven years ago)
I just looked this is my second place as well.
― campreverb, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:55 (eleven years ago)
this is a bit like Best Coast 'Boyfriend' - whatever happened to them? in the studio perhaps, recording some new songs I dare say
― nashwan, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:55 (eleven years ago)
"fight night" is the best of them all imo though i didn't vote for it; i think migos songs work super-well in isolation but their albums and mixtapes tend to get samey
this alvvays song is terrible
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:56 (eleven years ago)
i listened to some of the pazz an jop albums list and there seems to be an uptick in this kind of lofi-ish flat affect female vocals garage-y indie thing that never quite goes out of style
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:56 (eleven years ago)
this one sounds like particularly 90s tho
Alvvays is great.
― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)
something abt the dreaminess
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)
This is very anglo-american sounding. Very good opening line, does nothing else for me.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)
this is a bit like Best Coast 'Boyfriend'
haha this is another song that i really like by a band that my instinct was to hate
hey hey a-r-c-h-i-eeeee hey
― dyl, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:58 (eleven years ago)
I've not heard them yet but just... I mean, ALVVAYS?! That's up there with Test Icicles, the Dandy Warhols, Joanna Gruesome and Eagulls for all time egregiously pointless band names.
― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:58 (eleven years ago)
love love the whole Alvvays album, and this is the best track, or at least the most memorable.
― skip, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:59 (eleven years ago)
whole alvvays album is a joy start 2 finish
― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:00 (eleven years ago)
it is a worse name than all of those
― telling like hot takes (imago), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:00 (eleven years ago)
is it pronounced always
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:00 (eleven years ago)
is it ever pronounced differently?
― quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:01 (eleven years ago)
characterless and flat
― saer, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 16:01 (eleven years ago)
or is it alvvays pronounced 'always'
I have yet to really listen to Alvvays, so all I really know about them is that the lead singer is the daughter of one of the members of The Rankin Family.
