anyway, i can't remember for the life of me how this one goes because days are gone feels like 100 years ago

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:00 (eleven years ago)

whatever

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:00 (eleven years ago)

indie bands its always kind of weird to see their songs in singles polls cause they still seem just like a song off an album

Haim are not an indie band!!

emil.y, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:00 (eleven years ago)

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:00 (eleven years ago)

they represent the ethos of contemporary indie like maybe better than anyone

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:01 (eleven years ago)

xxpost he was talking about Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars

quinoa: how's it spelt? (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:01 (eleven years ago)

save us, gr8dy!

telling like hot takes (imago), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

They play pop/rock music and are not on an independent label, how are they an indie band?

emil.y, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

It had to happen, things just took a turn for the worse.

strychnine, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

haim are a soft-rock band btw yeah

telling like hot takes (imago), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

theyre a super conservative nostalgia act, indie 2015

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:03 (eleven years ago)

they have independent spirits.

american tail/american pie (how's life), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:03 (eleven years ago)

another band made of girls iirc

prolego, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:04 (eleven years ago)

6 tracks from Days Are Gone have placed over three years. That has to be a record on both counts, right? o___O

The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:04 (eleven years ago)

like what wld be real 2015 soft rock music, prob some country artist

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:05 (eleven years ago)

for sure, country took over soft rock's niche a long time ago

mh, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:05 (eleven years ago)

Passenger?

MarkoP, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:06 (eleven years ago)

yeah this feels like a lame pick for 2014 even though i enjoy the song

ciderpress, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:06 (eleven years ago)

emil.y is right to cavil tho as 'indie' gets a terrible rap around here & yet it often produces brilliant music that rarely threatens the year-end 77 - when it does, it's often pretty generic pop-rock disguised as indie

^^^this is my single and only meta complaint itt, i'm not going to generalise ilx's listenership like every other year. but i will stand for indie

if soft rock is now indie and country is now soft rock and pop is now country, is indie now pop?

telling like hot takes (imago), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:06 (eleven years ago)

voting for the fifth single off a very well-represented 2013 album that had no greater impact on the world than its predecessors seems pretty boring to me, i assume all its voters heard and loved it as much as they were going to back in 2013

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:07 (eleven years ago)

I thought Indie was now R&B.

MarkoP, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:07 (eleven years ago)

Anyways, I would have voted for this song, but I thought it seemed too 2013 to me even though it wasn't on last year's poll.

MarkoP, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:07 (eleven years ago)

^^yeah this is the reason I didn't even consider it; it'll always be just a song from 2013

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:08 (eleven years ago)

like i can understand voting for a 2013 album track that became a huge hit in 2014 because a surge in popularity does mean a song takes on a new life of sorts. i don't feel like this one did

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:08 (eleven years ago)

move to strike haim from the record

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:09 (eleven years ago)

didn't think anyone would remember that "if i could change your mind" was a single last year so i didn't vote for it. would've though. incredible song

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:09 (eleven years ago)

*reads reactions to Haim placing in 2014* Damn... looks like Haim... is not going to change anyone's mind

, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:09 (eleven years ago)

when all the other music has been exterminated i will come to love them

telling like hot takes (imago), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:10 (eleven years ago)

The video was really cool. Maybe that had an impact? I didn't vote for it but I love the song and I'm happy to see it place.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:11 (eleven years ago)

also i honestly thought it placed in 2013 a la "ain't it fun"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:11 (eleven years ago)

"Ain't It Fun" did actually become a hit, unlike "If I Could Change Your Mind."

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:11 (eleven years ago)

fun thread today

nxd, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:11 (eleven years ago)

(and I expect it to place at some point)

sorry Haim...your day's gone by

LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:12 (eleven years ago)

should we move on here?

gr8080, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:14 (eleven years ago)

It's their second biggest hit in the UK. After The Wire they rereleased Forever which had no impact at all (Missed the top 75) but then If I Could Change Your mind made the top 30. Not a massive hit obviously but there was some impact in 2014.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:14 (eleven years ago)

Ain't It Fun placed last year.

Ironically, it's ineligible.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:15 (eleven years ago)

Nicki Minaj was more listenable than the other two of hers. Haim was horrible, made me think I was back at work, cant remember what the other ones were but I dont remember liking them. Been a lot of competition for the worst record so far, probably either tuneyards or royksopp

saer, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:15 (eleven years ago)

keep it rolling, gr80 B)

mh, Tuesday, 20 January 2015 15:15 (eleven years ago)
