"Uptown Funk" is fun but as usual with Bruno the schticky pastiche makes me roll my eyes a bit. I think I preferred "Treasure" afa that type of thing tbh. Also btw, neither MJ or Prince are what this song is going for, there were other black male singers in the 80s.

"I Luh Ya Papi" didn't make my ballot but like lex says it's just a very intensely likeable song and also the video is great. I didn't realize there was ILM love for it!

"Transgender Dysphoria Blues" is my favorite song from the AM album and I would have voted for it very high if I didn't just give my points to the album instead. I love how it centers on this refrain that isn't directly connected to the rest of what she's singing about but is this total emotional punch in the gut that evokes so much nonetheless. It's such a romantic image but also so forlorn at the same time and it performs this function in the song where LJG takes a moment to remind everyone that in spite of having to deal with bullshit transmisogyny and whatever else, hey I have the same feelings about the same things all of you do. Also those rolling snares are such a good way to start a song.

My memory of the AM! album (and the EP!) was drinking alone in Shanghai, walking out to the elevator landing on the 8th floor of the building I was living at, staring out the window at the city while smoking Panda cigarettes, staying still enough so the motion-activated hallway light would switch off leaving me in darkness, this album playing in my earphones

i voted for this last year! what a bravura performance though. disappointing album or no, nicki really is pop's mvp right now

I like the J-Lo video concept and the song's a relatively good pop track, just won't stay in my mind for very long.

"Boss Ass Bitch" is my second vote to place. I feel like a lot of Nicki's rappity rap tracks this year (including "Lookin' Ass") while good, suffered from a certain po-facedness that is unbefitting of her, but this one she sounds like she's having a blast rapping circles around everybody.

didn't hate the j-lo and approved of its keyboards, obv wdnt vote for it but not a hater.

minaj song is best when she does the singing bit, slightly out of tune - it's kinda punk. her lyrics? sounds like she's fighting the right battles

housekeeping note regarding "Boss Ass Bitch":

i wasn't sure whether to include a "Ft. PTAF" or not (and neither was seandalai).

pfork did, P+J and whomever nominated it here didn't, so i just tacked it on anyway because i'd already spent too much time investigating the matter lol

the J-Lo song is OK to good; I like it better now. I've only liked three or four of her singles.

PTAF did the original song and nicki keeps their hook so they deserve the "ft" imo

poll feels a lot less predictable than last years despite repetition (which there'll always be to an extent, esp when you consider nicki's approach to releasing material - two of her three trax so far are not on her album)

one of those times i wish Nicki acted more like Drake -- she could've kept a PTAF verse on there, signed them and sent the song to radio. would sure rather hear that than Makonnen.

I find Uptown Funk quite enjoyable, but I also praise it for saving me from further overplay of Locked Out of Heaven (which I never need to hear again ever).
