I love the house piano and steel drums on that Dumont track but I never warmed to the rest enough to play on repeat? I gave this a 7 on the Singles Jukebox w/out being motivated to play it again.

hip hop tracks showing very "Tanuki was right" so far
― rob, Monday, January 19, 2015

there are four tracks that you could reasonably call hip hop thus far; two are from nicki, one is a woman from chile by way of france and one is from Nigeria by way of Georgia. not sure this was what RT was on about.

and we're still in the sixties

I liked "Need U 100%" a lot but I've never been into this type of Ibiza vibe.

The Reverend, Monday, 19 January 2015 19:42 (eleven years ago)

while a lot of these tracks sound like they came from the nineties

I've voted for a pop-rap song this year. Tanuki has no hope really

rae sredrum (imago), Monday, 19 January 2015 19:44 (eleven years ago)

shakira and st vincent ive already forgotten what both sound like but i guess that means they werent annoying

dumont wasnt as bad as i thought it might be but was still bad tho i didnt mind the steel drums!

saer, Monday, 19 January 2015 19:45 (eleven years ago)

Ana's track is the epitome of "tanuki was born wrong and will die wrong and it's up to us to lessen the wrongspan between the two"

venting lex stream anger. (wins), Monday, 19 January 2015 19:48 (eleven years ago)

i found "i got u" a bit too unsubtle in its approach for me to be fully enamoured with it (even more so with latest tune), but those steel drums provided tons of fun every time i heard it this summer.

prolego, Monday, 19 January 2015 19:48 (eleven years ago)

the RT line was a joke yall, just thought it kind of funny that so far (not far at all) the American hip hop has only been Nicki, who I like a lot

rob, Monday, 19 January 2015 19:49 (eleven years ago)

in penance I will listen to the Tijoux which i have not heard

rob, Monday, 19 January 2015 19:49 (eleven years ago)

charlie xcx still coming

dyl, Monday, 19 January 2015 19:50 (eleven years ago)

je ne suis pas charlie, je suis marina

rae sredrum (imago), Monday, 19 January 2015 19:51 (eleven years ago)

ok, the Tijoux is real dope, I regret nothing. Mansour the standout here imo

rob, Monday, 19 January 2015 19:55 (eleven years ago)

Was I Got U this year then? Thought it was 2013 for some reason. Probably would have made my 25 if I'd have realised.

groovypanda, Monday, 19 January 2015 19:57 (eleven years ago)

That Duke Dumont track, one of those moments - "Ah, I've never heard this." - "YouTube views = 92,338,684" - oh.

hahaha okay

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:01 (eleven years ago)

neat, surprised this placed as its very un-ilx-in-2014 but i enjoy it. its more about the music than the vocals for me

ciderpress, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:02 (eleven years ago)

xp lol

Johnny Fever, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:02 (eleven years ago)

suggested handicap: number of million Youtube hits subtracted from points total

rae sredrum (imago), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:02 (eleven years ago)

never heard this Duke Dumont track before but I'm finding it really difficult to get hyped over it. the video is cool though.

example (crüt), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:04 (eleven years ago)

xp That would be an interesting side-stat tbh

The Reverend, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:05 (eleven years ago)

Caribou is nice, agree about the vocals in general on this record tho.

I feel like the last two tracks are the Ibiza interlude on this poll.

MikoMcha, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:07 (eleven years ago)

i don't mind that caribou track, vocals nearly sink it tho

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:08 (eleven years ago)

I was pleasantly surprised by the Caribou track. another one that had passed my by.

example (crüt), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

love Caribou, not impressed by Silver. After Swim, nothing else compares

sassarfrasco, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:12 (eleven years ago)

I imagine Can't Do Without You will place higher. Is that a sample of Leona Lewis' voice on Silver?

Dan S, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:12 (eleven years ago)

you mean Andorra right, or TMOHK :P xp

rae sredrum (imago), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:13 (eleven years ago)

Umm... so this was a thing that also happened? "St. Vincent & Nirvana - Lithium (Live Rock Hall of Fame 2014)"

MikoMcha, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:16 (eleven years ago)

Oh shit, and Lorde played All Apologies?? Sacrilege.

MikoMcha, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:17 (eleven years ago)

Sorry, getting off topic here.

MikoMcha, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:17 (eleven years ago)

This has one really nice chord change about two thirds of the way through but this guy seems to emotionally slay people in a way that I just don't understand, most of his music just feels so tepid.

Ooof, the Katie Gately and Ninos du Brasil tracks are the highlights of this list so far for me. Both are gorgeous, texturally adventurous and have epic buildups with a payoff.

octobeard, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:20 (eleven years ago)

Silver at 63???? TOO LOW.

octobeard, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:20 (eleven years ago)

he'll never top the Andorra LP imo but i've loved everything he's done since, even if it mostly pales in comparison

don't like 'too low' as a rule, think it demeans the poll, also this caribou track just felt rote to me during my extended poll ballot preparations, might give it another try tho

rae sredrum (imago), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:25 (eleven years ago)

I can't speak for everyone, but when I do a "too low!" post I know full well the hurdles a track has to go through to even make the top 77, so it's kind of tongue in cheek.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:27 (eleven years ago)

i feel like being a shakira stan would be very rewarding, she suits being a niche concern as much as she suits being a megastar and tends to be come off as pretty unconcerned about it either way.

st vincent - idgi generally, though is this youtube a different mix to the album version? i remember not liking the album bc it was all lo-fi and scratchy and don't remember anything as ~stately as this on it. quite like the crunchiness of the guitar rupturing the stateliness but the song isn't grabbing me

duke dumont - lots of fun, guaranteed to make me happy if i heard it, it seems a lot more straightforward and disposable than "need u" - in a good way but i never considered voting for it

caribou - what a fucking snooze this was

gr8080, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:29 (eleven years ago)

i actually like this caribou track? weird b/c i normally don't like caribou, like the other one that ppl liked this yr is just whatever

dyl, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:29 (eleven years ago)

Most of the time I was on the beach in Mexico last month (while Chicago was cold and gloomy), I felt like I was in the "I Got U" video.

Tove Lo Tove You Baby (jaymc), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:30 (eleven years ago)

didnt like the caribou either. didnt mind it that much until the singing and then it had to go with all the others

saer, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:31 (eleven years ago)

Interested to hear lex's thoughts on this one.

MikoMcha, Monday, 19 January 2015 20:31 (eleven years ago)

aw i love this song and i did not vote for it at all

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:32 (eleven years ago)

have a long-standing personal "no rock on the tracks ballot" rule for myself though

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 19 January 2015 20:33 (eleven years ago)

lasted about 10 seconds of against me, I think im at the end of my limit now, not done very well today
