The newsprint version of the article today has a new title:Riot Women. They're wearing heels in the photo, which takes up much of the Arts & Leisure section front page.

“In here,” Ms. Brownstein said, “it always seemed dark and insular, like we were assembling explosive devices and then wondering how and where they’ll detonate, and how big the explosion will be.”
It'll never happen irl, but I'm hearing a fantastic S-K cover of "Urban Guerrilla" in my head right now. Carrie sings the "So let's not talk of love and flowers/And things that don't explode" part.

I wonder if partially ripping the melody of Lita Ford's Kiss Me Deadly in Hey Darling was intentional.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 5 January 2015 02:49 (eleven years ago)
These new songs are great.

I'm so bummed I missed the original pressing of the box set. 3,000 sold out quickly! A small number have shown up on Discogs but for mostly silly money. Did any of them make it to shops?

I'd love to buy a first pressing of the box set if anyone has a (non-Discogs, where I got burned trying to buy it last month!) lead... thank you!

Every time this thread gets bumped, I think they've broken up again.

I accidentally streamed the John Carpenter song over the tail end of one of these songs and thought that there was an arpeggiated synth outro.
― how's life, Monday, 12 January 2015 14:41 (eleven years ago)
this is legit!
― Mordy, Monday, 12 January 2015 15:46 (eleven years ago)

watt's new prog/fusion band w/the italian name is pretty awesome
― Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 12 January 2015 17:00 (eleven years ago)
btw - is it me or does a lot of this really sound like an actual bass guitar not just a down-tuned 6 string?
― Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 12 January 2015 17:06 (eleven years ago)
wanna wait for it in HQ
― Davek (davek_00), Monday, 12 January 2015 17:13 (eleven years ago)
Yeah it definitely just sounds like an actual bass guitar this time.

just finished, i liked it! i thought the first single was probably the worst song but overall it was solid, very frantic vibe & quick paced, like that they kept it short and punchy, running time can't be that long
overall it feels a bit like the mission of burma post reunion albums or dino jr. post reunion albums, a band just sort of magically picking up where they left off
― Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 12 January 2015 17:34 (eleven years ago)
is the first song about sourcing your produce
― j., Monday, 12 January 2015 17:55 (eleven years ago)
loving this album
― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Monday, 12 January 2015 18:09 (eleven years ago)
some fuckin NOISES on this thing
― j., Monday, 12 January 2015 18:10 (eleven years ago)
on one listen i'm loving this better than any s-k album since one beat, which is my favourite of all their albums
― lex pretend, Monday, 12 January 2015 18:16 (eleven years ago)
you're loving this better than the woods
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 12 January 2015 18:22 (eleven years ago)
i've never been able to get into any s-k album other than one beat, it just seems a thousand times hookier than anything else they've done. but this is reminding me of it!
― lex pretend, Monday, 12 January 2015 18:24 (eleven years ago)
Yeah this was fantastic.
― Evan, Monday, 12 January 2015 18:29 (eleven years ago)
'one beat' is their hookiest to date (along with this) but the other albums are great too. however i think maybe you'd like the tunes from the other albums better live, because when i saw them live in 2000 everything clicked for me, they are incredible onstage.
― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Monday, 12 January 2015 18:29 (eleven years ago)
title track is noice
― celfie tucker 48 (s.clover), Monday, 12 January 2015 18:37 (eleven years ago)
yes! i bought tickets for me & my wife because they went on sale right before our anniversary and she's a huge fan but the show in minneapolis happens to actually be ON valentine's day so i was like wtf are we gonna do about babysitting but it turns out a friend of ours can so we can go :)
i figured i could flip the ticket because it sold out in like 15 mins but still psyched to be able to go
― Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 12 January 2015 18:56 (eleven years ago)
It took 2-3 tracks for the album to really "kick in" for me, but now we're rolling.
I still prefer The Woods to this but I'm not a serious S-K fan, so...

who is the mystery 4th person?
― some kind of terrible IDM with guitars (sleeve), Friday, 16 January 2015 18:41 (eleven years ago)
Love S-K, but something about that makes me want to see them less.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 16 January 2015 18:48 (eleven years ago)
Love this. I don't know who the 4th person is either but those sounds in the breakdown were glorious.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 16 January 2015 18:51 (eleven years ago)
As much as I love the chorus and breakdown of "A New Wave", I feel like the guitar line in the verse doesn't make much sense. Kinda melodically aimless or something.

Brooklyn Vegan reveals it is "Katie Harkin of UK band Sky Larkin who will be playing guitars and keyboards for their upcoming tour"

Harkin of Larkin
― Evan, Friday, 16 January 2015 18:53 (eleven years ago)
Is Corin playing a baritone?
― campreverb, Friday, 16 January 2015 22:04 (eleven years ago)
yeah i thought it was bass on the record but maybe baritone?

Xxxpost Evan I agree, didn't notice the part as much until seeing Carrie play it
― Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 18 January 2015 14:34 (eleven years ago)
It's just a bit wonky.
― Evan, Sunday, 18 January 2015 14:37 (eleven years ago)
if I'm being honest with myself, it looks like they're cashing in-and hey, more power to them. they probably deserve it more than just about anyone I can think of off the top of my head.
― campreverb, Sunday, 18 January 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)
I dunno you don't really need to bother with doing an album if you just want to cash in, cf Pavement, Archers, Outlast, etc etc
― Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 18 January 2015 20:04 (eleven years ago)
For some reason, almost all late show indie performances seem tossed off in this way, just kind of sarcastic and not committed-to.
― RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 18 January 2015 21:58 (eleven years ago)
"Fangless" sounds like Franz Ferdinand.
