Mordy, Sunday, 4 January 2015 07:29 (eleven years ago)

I love "Uma Thurman" so much, off-brand "Misirlou" guitar line and coke-snorting sound and all

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Sunday, 4 January 2015 08:31 (eleven years ago)

incidentally SRNR had my personal highest hit:miss rato of any FOB album, which I suspect I'm alone on
--Simon H.

I agree almost 100 percent actually - last time I listened I was like "are only the odd numbered tracks good on this?"

i'm tellin you it was kenard (slothroprhymes), Sunday, 4 January 2015 14:39 (eleven years ago)

IT WAS THE FOURTH OF JULY
YOU AND I WERE

uberweiss, Sunday, 4 January 2015 15:29 (eleven years ago)

you were the song STUCK in MY HEAD
every song that i've ever loved
played again and again and again
and you can get what you want but it's never enough
and i'll spin for you like your favourite records used to

uberweiss, Sunday, 4 January 2015 15:32 (eleven years ago)

Is this CDQ

, Sunday, 4 January 2015 15:36 (eleven years ago)

on first spin "The Kids Aren't Alright" sounds like the towering standout, though I like the "Pastime Paradise"ish outro on "Twin Skeletons." definitely their most streamlined record, not sure if that's a good thng or not yet

Simon H., Sunday, 4 January 2015 16:44 (eleven years ago)

really bombastic but in a way that seems much more...confident than SRAR. like they know definitely what type of band they want to be now, which i don't necessarily think was the case with comeback FOB v 1.0 on the last record.

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 5 January 2015 05:37 (eleven years ago)

the leak is kinda terrible quality which normally doesn't bother me much but i imagine this album in particular will sound fuller w/ higher quality files?

Mordy, Monday, 5 January 2015 14:21 (eleven years ago)

Too many sharks not enough blood in the waves.

haven't heard the whole thing yet, but the tracks linked itt are fantastic

contenderizer, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 08:35 (eleven years ago)

the sample is the munsters theme yeah but stylistically the call-and-answer horn parts remind me of "chick habit"

I was just listening to this bit (on my second listen-through) and thinking how sharply this record captures what has become perhaps Fall Out Boy's primary aesthetic preoccupation: the way they take bombast, typically a mode of delivery, and turn it into a concentrated property in itself. These songs feel simultaneously structured and destructured by bombast, or maybe I should reverse those verbs - more like, they added too much bombast to ordinary songs until they exploded, and then they pieced together new songs out of the shards.

Particularly telling how the broken delivery of the refrain here immediately gets repeated at the start of "Favorite Record".

Tim F, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 22:02 (eleven years ago)

otm

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 13 January 2015 22:28 (eleven years ago)

I fucking hate you people with no principles

:)

, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 22:32 (eleven years ago)

I will def be buying a copy of this - if only because the sound quality on the leak is awful.

Tim F, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 23:02 (eleven years ago)

Haha wasn't even a dig at buying vs. not buying - I'm only gonna listen when there's a proper iTunes or CDQ quality versh out there

, Tuesday, 13 January 2015 23:03 (eleven years ago)

I think FOB is generally very well produced, No Scik Mouthy, so I'd rather be a good lil' boy and wait
