I actually started this thread 7 months ago. As far as my brother goes, half of the stuff he listens too is Sublime/311/Phish crap. but he also likes Jay-z and DMX so I can talk too him about that. My parents like Bob Dylan and The Allman Brothers so I'm cut off from them.

this is fucking music people. in my mind and my opinion sublime will always be a classic and ive heard alot of music. you cant give a definitive for sure answer for everything when music is concerned. you just listen to it. you like it or you dont like it. io respect everyones opinion that says sublime isnt a classic. but all the arguing in the world wont change my minf on this one cause i've liked almost everything sublime hads ever done and i cant say that about any other band. i guess we can agree to disagree on this one. cheers

oh yeah and im not going to mention any name but ive seen some of you lame over the hill sobs on here arguing over electronic music. ive also seen some of you all hyped over the last "brandy" song or re used beat by some lame ass r n b artist. electronic music has no heart and no soul although yeah its good for a certain time of place. im not a hater like most of you are so i wont bash what you listen to.

i'll still rep for sublime especially the 4 track recorded "Robbin the Hood" which honestly is some of the best homemade dub ive ever heard in my life. his voice still makes me wish i could sing like that. the boy had soul.

i used to love robbin the hood - havent heard that or anything else in years, but listening to my brand new copy of Early yesterday i realized that though they have diametrically opposed sensibilities there are some kind of parallels between how i liked Sublime and that era of Scritti Politti that i am now very fond of. right now I'd still have to say Sublime is a dud for the assy lyrics and fanbase.

There are some tunes on the self-titled album that are fucking great. There are some monster duds on it as well, but mostly I think this band was very good.

well this is an old thread and i stumbled on it while googling but i just wanted to say something.

i was born in 1970 in long beach california and actually was very tight friends growing up with the drummer of sublime, a guy by the name of bud gaugh. i knew of sublime from its inception in 1986 and i watched them rehearse, play shitty punker parties and clubs, and eventually sell out theatres and shit all over california. they were all really nice, down to earth guys and fun to be around. i read something up there about the lead singer having a monster ego, which is untrue, bradley was one of the humblest dudes i ever met. as for musical influence or whatever i'm just a punk from southern california, i can't help you there, but they kicked some mean shit back in the day and they were really, truly a great band and great guys (and rad as hell when it came to surfing)..

just wanted to say something since i actually knew all these guys way back in the mist.

nah man, they could surf, you gotta remember brad was dope thin for most of the time i knew him, he did put on some weight when he kicked, when i last saw him in..january of 1996 he was pudgy and eric (the bass player) has always been big but that's really nothing relevant to surfing.
