finally, "four door aventador" is not horrible and is in fact great

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 11 December 2014 19:16 (eleven years ago)

not only are the choruses garbage but all the guest vocalists and rappers make nicki sound like such a weirdly muted presence on her own record. which is ridiculous when she's built her reputation from owning songs with only a guest verse

prolego, Thursday, 11 December 2014 19:24 (eleven years ago)

I've found there are two schools of Nicki Minaj fans: ones that worship her unconditionally and ones that demand she rap like Eminem on speed at all times

Evan R, Thursday, 11 December 2014 19:29 (eleven years ago)

Just FYI "Truffle Butter" used to be The K.I.D Heat and Mally Mall feat. Drake and Tyga "Whatcha Say" ... i believe a DJ Carisma joint ...was out back in september

although apparently tyga wasn't supposed to be on it https://twitter.com/thekidheat/status/539518867073032192

deej loaf (D-40), Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:14 (eleven years ago)

this album sounded like it had a couple ok songs on it, once again though popular rap in 2014 is trash

deej loaf (D-40), Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:24 (eleven years ago)

so far the bonus tracks are all good-to-great? wtf happened with this record

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:24 (eleven years ago)

"four door aventador" paired w/ "yonce" would break someone's lower back like seriously

j. winters (josh), Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:26 (eleven years ago)

bonus tracks being better than the standard edition tracks is sort of the story of 2014 pop albums

prolego, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:29 (eleven years ago)

"shanghai" is better sinogrime than anything on that fatima al qadiri record

lex pretend, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:30 (eleven years ago)

lol yeah but usually there's at least idk the presence of life on the standard edition

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:32 (eleven years ago)

I'm only on my second listen, but I think this is being underrated, at least in this thread. A few duds aside, this album is roughly on par with the other two

Evan R, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:35 (eleven years ago)

Wow this is the most uniformly remorseless ILM dismembering of any anticipated album since... I dunno the Aeroplane one?

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:39 (eleven years ago)

oh man, its not as bad as that

johnny crunch, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:40 (eleven years ago)

"four door aventador" is sick

it's the most lil kim song nicki has ever done

― lex pretend, Thursday, 11 December 2014 18:03 Bookmark

nah this one gets nul points too in the grand scheme of things imo, nicki's whole career is about her waxing and waning on this axis but never previously had she gone dead-end leaden pastiche like this... like it's not a horrible track but as an index of cluelessness it ultimately sticks out more than any of the dr luke type cuts she's ever done

r|t|c, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:02 (eleven years ago)

haha turns out it's produced by some pop brit dude from pinner

should have called himself d-dot cotton

r|t|c, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:03 (eleven years ago)

i don't wanna be seeing any pleb thread bumps saying "hey, guys, guys, if u rearrange durdurdur this isnt so bad" for the next 6 months, let's just let this one burn cold forever

r|t|c, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:11 (eleven years ago)

"if you rearrange durdurdur the piano garbage still ends the record proper"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:12 (eleven years ago)

yeah discussion about bloated 22-track albums that easily could have been 12 is pretty uninteresting and durdur.

billstevejim, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:16 (eleven years ago)

i'm gaping in astonishment at twitter falling at the feet of nicki's sad feelings. what hath drake wrought

lex pretend, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:17 (eleven years ago)

idk if it's a drake thing so much as stans generally fetishising personal~ confessional~ albums from their favs

prolego, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:41 (eleven years ago)

twitter has rules & regulations more strict than ilxes

deej loaf (D-40), Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:49 (eleven years ago)

Meanwhile elsewhere I see dudes who fetishized her hard ass no fucks given bonkers rapper side expressing disinterest when she goes somber, introspective and confessional. Funny that.

Greer, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:52 (eleven years ago)

prob cuz it's impossible to detect a personality beyond all the gauzy clouds of feels

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 11 December 2014 22:01 (eleven years ago)

it is a drake thing to an extent because he has set the (fetishized) rubric for what confessional passes for nowadays

nicki as a supposed student of the ny rap game ought to know more than most about how hard and emotional can go together in ways better than this

kinda funny that part of her persona has actually been that of a rare strictly business person not even particularly in thrall to the drake mystique, which they both then play on for slashfic romcom vibes

as it turns out, EVERYONE is basic

you guys, I want to listen to this but I haven't figured out the proper taste calculus yet

burbbhrbhbbhbburbbb ranks (The Reverend), Thursday, 11 December 2014 22:38 (eleven years ago)

prob cuz it's impossible to detect a personality beyond all the gauzy clouds of feels

this is otm. Even her supposedly confessional songs feel oddly impersonal, like she's just feigning vague emotions instead of actually revealing something about herself.

I know most of this board isn't a fan of Drake's feel-y material either, but at least that guy really opens up from time to time, getting into the specifics of why he's a shitty person (he's unfaithful; he's entitled; he trades money for affection; he burns bridges; he's not even talking to Nicki). Obviously he's still in control of his image when he confides all of these things, but it feels personal. When Nicki does it she feels a million miles away.

video was on to something with the shot of nicki's bound and bleeding male captives and then the song started and then the rest of the video happened STORY OF HER CAREER

lex pretend, Friday, 12 December 2014 16:17 (eleven years ago)

i'm starting to not hate this song, tbh, although i definitely understand why most people on this thread do

nicki abusing a dude who looks vaguely like khal drogo from game of thrones is never not entertaining

Chris Brown looks like a Sith Lord.

so ppl are picking up the bonus edition version of this album in europe only to find that "anaconda" has been swapped out for... its instrumental.

just about sums up this whole album campaign

the "only" video is somehow more hilariously bad than the song

J0rdan S., Friday, 12 December 2014 18:10 (eleven years ago)

"the night is still young" is pretty go as far as dr. luke/nicki collabos go... the songwriting unfortunately isn't that great but the production is a nifty kinda john hughes soundtrack thing

J0rdan S., Friday, 12 December 2014 18:52 (eleven years ago)

pretty good

my favorite part of that is how he only raps 12 bars but 3 of them start with "young jewman"
