Got my LiveNation presale, more expensive than the SK presale but general sale is almost definitely going to be a frenzied rush.

what is the SF password? presents doesn't seem to work

akm, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:20 (eleven years ago)

maybe the whole thing went to shit as usual with these presales

akm, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:21 (eleven years ago)

oh it was a flash issue. why the fuck are they still using flash on ticketmaster/LN? jesus. ticket obtained.

akm, Thursday, 11 December 2014 20:41 (eleven years ago)

I think I asked this once before but didn't get any responses, so: is this one of the few exceptions to the "Don't wear a band's t-shirt to their concerts" rule?

TAKING SIDES: HUMANS VS. GUACAMOLEEE (Leee), Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:04 (eleven years ago)

i have a picture of me and janet weiss at a 2002 show in which i'm wearing a SK shirt, which has always kind of embarrassed me :(

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:19 (eleven years ago)

You need to get that picture on a shirt and wear it to the show.

how's life, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:20 (eleven years ago)

And get another picture with Janet, naturally.

Evan, Thursday, 11 December 2014 21:28 (eleven years ago)

I've never owned an S-K shirt :-(

But I do have one for the Corin Tucker Band!

Do they still sell the "S-K Is For Lovers" one? It's not in the new online store.

xp I think the show me yr riffs shirt is OK in this situation

Bringing the mosh (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 12 December 2014 15:51 (eleven years ago)

I have 2 SK shirts, one from their final tour that has a silhouette of a dog on it and says "Sleater-Kinney" very tiny and I never wear it bcz it looks like a dumb THE BLACK DOG MARTHAS VINEYARD shirt

The other looks like a cool stencil and I cut it into a tank top and I have had it for over 10 years and it is totally threadbare because it is my favorite shirt

prefer "lions and tigers" to at least 2/3rds of the songs on one beat

I'm so bummed I missed the original pressing of the box set. 3,000 sold out quickly! A small number have shown up on Discogs but for mostly silly money. Did any of them make it to shops?

Your Ribs are My Ladder, Sunday, 14 December 2014 23:08 (eleven years ago)

first run was colored vinyl, second was black. I'm not sure if they ever got to shops, but if they did it would have been that second pressing.

Haven't heard it yet, but I imagine it makes a big difference to be in a band, knocking out great album after great album, tour record tour, etc., then take almost a decade off, reconvene, and be expected to adhere to standard. First you have to learn how to be a band again, but then you have to actually write naturally, and not try to write "a new S-K album," which is probably tough after so many years not writing a new S-K album and certainly would explain why so few reunions produce material on par with the formative stuff (see: the miracle of Mission of Burma). It might be even tougher for a band like S-K, which clearly was not the sort of band where Carrie or Corin just brought a song fully formed and arranged to the studio. Like Fugazi, S-K sounded like a band whose songs stemmed from jamming and collaboration.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 December 2014 17:49 (eleven years ago)

then take almost a decade off

This still boggles my mind, it seems in my mind like the split was only 3-4 years ago.

"Carrie or Corin just brought a song fully formed and arranged to the studio"

actually from first listens i would say the new record sounds as if they tried to do just this, more or less

nostormo, Tuesday, 30 December 2014 18:04 (eleven years ago)

i have never knowingly heard S-K and seeing them in february

The newsprint version of the article today has a new title:Riot Women. They're wearing heels in the photo, which takes up much of the Arts & Leisure section front page.

“In here,” Ms. Brownstein said, “it always seemed dark and insular, like we were assembling explosive devices and then wondering how and where they’ll detonate, and how big the explosion will be.”

It'll never happen irl, but I'm hearing a fantastic S-K cover of "Urban Guerrilla" in my head right now. Carrie sings the "So let's not talk of love and flowers/And things that don't explode" part.

Don A Henley And Get Over It (C. Grisso/McCain), Sunday, 4 January 2015 19:01 (eleven years ago)

I wonder if partially ripping the melody of Lita Ford's Kiss Me Deadly in Hey Darling was intentional.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 5 January 2015 02:49 (eleven years ago)

These new songs are great.

I'd love to buy a first pressing of the box set if anyone has a (non-Discogs, where I got burned trying to buy it last month!) lead... thank you!

Every time this thread gets bumped, I think they've broken up again.

I accidentally streamed the John Carpenter song over the tail end of one of these songs and thought that there was an arpeggiated synth outro.

btw - is it me or does a lot of this really sound like an actual bass guitar not just a down-tuned 6 string?

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 12 January 2015 17:06 (eleven years ago)

wanna wait for it in HQ

Yeah it definitely just sounds like an actual bass guitar this time.

just finished, i liked it! i thought the first single was probably the worst song but overall it was solid, very frantic vibe & quick paced, like that they kept it short and punchy, running time can't be that long

overall it feels a bit like the mission of burma post reunion albums or dino jr. post reunion albums, a band just sort of magically picking up where they left off
