Nicki Minaj - The Pink Print (2014)

"buy a heart" really rubs in how badly this album fails on its miserable terms given that it's an offcut from a break-up album also released this month which actually makes me feel things

ok go on then i am here to read a defence of the first three songs cuz i can't imagine one for the life of me

and "cry on your knees" is a prism reject. the album was delayed because katy perry decided against featuring on it at the last minute

and nicki couldn't even be bothered to take the katy perry reference off the song ;_;

I'm only just finishing the standard, but this feels really solid. I mean, I can anticipate certain folks hating how relatively laid back (for Nicki) a lot of this is, but I'll take that over obnoxious half-baked RedOne "bangers" that composed half of Roman Reloaded. Also I appreciate her shoving the two terrible singles Bed of Lies and Pills off to almost the tail end of the standard so you can completely ignore them.

The first three tracks aren't objectionable enough to need a defense imo.

Nicki trolling Lex by making the opening stretch of this album her own belated Take Care is the meanest, most subversive thing she has ever done.

How great is "Want Some More" though

That opening stretch is rough, but any album with two features apiece from Jeremih and Meek Mill is after my heart, and the bonus tracks are solid. This is much better than the singles promised I think

i never knew so many people wanted drizzly r&b from nicki, wasn't that the stretch of roman reloaded that literally no one can remember

aside from starships being on the radio, can anyone remember the majority of roman reloaded beyond the first 6 or 7 tracks?

how long is the "rough opening stretch" cos i sat thru the first... 9 and (excepting maybe the bey) lost the will to live

i thought "feeling myself" was kind of wack, not really a great use of beyonce

"feeling myself" is a mess but maybe entertaining enough if it falls into place. bey sounds more like wilding-out cartoon-voiced nicki than nicki does at any point

i forgot bey was there and just liked it as a fake kendrick jibber jabber thing

ugh even the traditional trini bubbler is on some washed out mixpak tears shit

haha now i see that this album is a extremely extended shaggy dog joke prelude to 'anaconda', v good nicki

it really does and i was not that into anaconda when it first dropped tbh

there have been far worse records this year but it's p mediocre overall, not a surprise

twitter seems to be weirdly enthusiastic about this album huh

choruses are all hot garbage so far, even the jessie ware one, which sounds pleasant but is listless and unstructured

idk if i can survive through "only"

odd side effect of this album has been to make me go back to la bella mafia (which is a lot better)

hoping for at least 1 or 2 instances of the coked-out "stupid ho"/"come on a cone" insanity that hopefully surpasses the comparatively tame "anaconda"

finally, "four door aventador" is not horrible and is in fact great

not only are the choruses garbage but all the guest vocalists and rappers make nicki sound like such a weirdly muted presence on her own record. which is ridiculous when she's built her reputation from owning songs with only a guest verse

I've found there are two schools of Nicki Minaj fans: ones that worship her unconditionally and ones that demand she rap like Eminem on speed at all times
