Yeah the first half is just gorgeous. The second half seems so unexpected after those songs but it somehow it really works as a whole album.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 01:58 (eleven years ago)

i like everything on it

deej loaf (D-40), Tuesday, 2 December 2014 02:01 (eleven years ago)

is there even a real me
or am i just a series of nights

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 2 December 2014 02:03 (eleven years ago)

This LP is now my favourite this year, not a weak spot on it, glad they've stopped trying to be an indie band and embraced this strung-out 5am post-disco thing, her voice deserves it.

Camaraderie at Arms Length, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 03:23 (eleven years ago)

i found this album very pleasant to listen to and every time it has gone straight in one ear and out the other

lex pretend, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 09:29 (eleven years ago)

easy glistening album of the year

Tim F, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 11:36 (eleven years ago)

I think that's the reason for the change but i still don't like it, it feels like they had a messy car crash with Mr Mr.

― Tim F, Friday, October 3, 2014 5:51 PM (1 month ago) Bookmark

Tim do you mean the K-pop band MR.MR???

, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 11:41 (eleven years ago)

Sadly I meant Mr Mister of "Broken Wings".

Hmm, in my memory, this thread was way longer.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 29 January 2015 22:35 (eleven years ago)

biggest gap between the awfulness of the band name and the quality of the music?

||||||||, Thursday, 29 January 2015 22:36 (eleven years ago)

I think I did most of my enthusing on Facebook with brad & deej

Tim F, Thursday, 29 January 2015 22:57 (eleven years ago)

Pretty sure I overlooked this on the basis of the terrible name too.

The Reverend, Thursday, 29 January 2015 23:02 (eleven years ago)

nearly overlooked it on the basis of 1) their name 2) the previous associations i had re: their sound 3) who was writing about them

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 29 January 2015 23:04 (eleven years ago)

thankfully a friend whose taste i really trust recommended it to me

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 29 January 2015 23:05 (eleven years ago)

It took many co-signs for me to check it out.

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Thursday, 29 January 2015 23:07 (eleven years ago)

I never actually saw anyone talking about or recommending them, just the name!

The Reverend, Thursday, 29 January 2015 23:11 (eleven years ago)

i love this record so much and it really should've been no. 1 on my ballot

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 29 January 2015 23:13 (eleven years ago)

it has this really wonderful dual quality of being smoky and precise, dreamy and present

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 29 January 2015 23:15 (eleven years ago)

yeah it's one of the best things to happen ever. still remember the feeling hearing 'in the house of yes' for the first time, when the disco strings came in.

This is great, my favorite discovery so far from the poll results.

_Rudipherous_, Friday, 30 January 2015 06:21 (eleven years ago)

not too in to the silent-shout-style tracks on the back half of this record, but overall its def my favorite discovery from the EOY top 77 polls.

max already invoked bjork, which is what i hear the most-- specifically the lush floral stuff from "Post"

gr8080, Tuesday, 3 February 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)

this is my favorite discovery from the albums poll too

"Color Your Life" from the Twin Sister days is one of my favorite pieces of music this decade. I guess they're not giving it away free anymore but it's very much worth whatever price they're asking.

Finally picked up 'In Heaven', the Twin Sister full length, today for £1 and am quite enjoying it. Will eventually get around to Mr Twin Sister.

new song rules

ufo, Thursday, 28 June 2018 02:10 (seven years ago)

no one on earth has released an album as good as their 2014 s/t since imo

flopson, Thursday, 28 June 2018 02:12 (seven years ago)

ooh

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 28 June 2018 03:21 (seven years ago)

SO good.

Not the most active band though, eh?
What do they do in their non-MTS time that keeps them from releasing more fantastic music anyway?

mr.raffles, Thursday, 28 June 2018 03:38 (seven years ago)

IIRC, Andrea announced a multiple sclerosis diagnosis prior to the album release in 2014.

Roomba with an attitude (Sanpaku), Thursday, 28 June 2018 04:01 (seven years ago)

Oh! Had no idea about that!

They have way more great tracks than most bands even with sporadic deployment.

mr.raffles, Thursday, 28 June 2018 04:06 (seven years ago)

"jaipur" is amazing wow

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Thursday, 28 June 2018 04:15 (seven years ago)

I have now this song on a loop for the last hour+ and it's just as good this time as it was the first.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 28 June 2018 04:31 (seven years ago)

A new album from them would be great.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 28 June 2018 04:47 (seven years ago)

The new song is so gorgeous.

I sometimes forget just how special their last album was. One of those discoveries that makes me really grateful I post on here. For some strange reason I barely saw any buzz about it anywhere else.

kitchen person, Thursday, 28 June 2018 04:58 (seven years ago)

their twitter does seem to suggest a new album is on the way which is very exciting

ufo, Thursday, 28 June 2018 05:55 (seven years ago)

Still don't get why In the House of Yes wasn't some massive breakout hit - stunning, stunning track. Really excited for new stuff from them.

hourofthestar, Thursday, 28 June 2018 11:03 (seven years ago)

new song is fantastic, been listening to that and the self-titled album for the past few hours. unbelievable that it's been nearly 4 years since it came out

Mr Twin Sister at The David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, NYC
Free to enter until at capacity, Arrive at least 1/2 hour early for your best chance to get in!
Seating and entry are first-come, first-served; the line will form at the Atrium’s entrance on Broadway, between 62nd and 63rd Street.

Brooklyn-based indie pop band Mr Twin Sister have headlined sets at Elsewhere, Warsaw, and Bowery Ballroom. The group's Lincoln Center debut reimagines the space as an exclusive rock club, minus the cover. Mr Twin Sister's early EPs announced the band's signature brand of musically omnivorous dreamy disco, but they first gained international recognition when Kendrick Lamar sampled their single "Meet the Frownies" for his breakout hit "The Recipe." Four albums later, the quartet has established themselves as among the scene's most respected and influential institutions. Pitchfork said Mr Twin Sister's latest release, 2022's Upright and Even, "exists to be danced to... each song is self aware, mature and sexy." Bring a partner or find one at the Atrium for a night of ecstasy.

ufo, Monday, 23 September 2024 21:25 (one year ago)

anyone know what's up with them? no live shows or new music in some time, and they are so great live.

bulb after bulb, Monday, 23 September 2024 21:46 (one year ago)

i was really into their 2008-11 run and then again from Salt onward but somehow never got to the s/t, guess now's a good time

moral ziosk (geoffreyess), Tuesday, 24 September 2024 01:13 (one year ago)

They are truly a national treasure and anything new or archival is great to have. I last saw them in Seattle in maybe 2017 and they were unreal. My completely unfounded guess it that Andrea’s MS battle limits their band functions.

avoid boring people, Tuesday, 24 September 2024 01:16 (one year ago)

i have yet to test this out but i feel like the s/t may be the best album to have sex to
