Johnny Fever, Monday, 17 November 2014 03:23 (eleven years ago)

one year passes...

this third record ever going to happen or what

akm, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 03:05 (ten years ago)

i feel like there were some short videos from the studio that went up a few months ago, but it (obvs) doesn't seem like she's in too much of a hurry

art baengels (monotony), Wednesday, 13 April 2016 06:46 (ten years ago)

went up on instagram* i should say

art baengels (monotony), Wednesday, 13 April 2016 06:47 (ten years ago)

"Ps : I swear I'm almost done with the album."

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

laraaji p. henson (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 00:40 (nine years ago)

It's called A Seat at the Table and contains 21 songs. Exciting!

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 28 September 2016 00:41 (nine years ago)

lmao what is this House of Leaves nonsense

laraaji p. henson (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 00:43 (nine years ago)

so fucking excited for this record

j. winters (josh), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 01:30 (nine years ago)

21 songs is scary

I hope all 21 are good, but the odds are against that being the case.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 01:30 (nine years ago)

8 of them are interludes

j. winters (josh), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 01:51 (nine years ago)

Ugh. Interludes.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 02:11 (nine years ago)

excited for the tweet backing vocals

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 04:37 (nine years ago)

Why does track 9 says Feat. Sampha Feat. Sampha twice?

I hate that artwork yet I'm very excited for this one. 'Some things never seem to fucking work' and 'Losing You' are two of my favorite songs of the past decade.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 07:10 (nine years ago)

Also it's fucking 2016, interludes shouldn't exist at this point. Maybe one or two at most if you can't think of a better transition but eight!?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 07:14 (nine years ago)

Interesting interview here.

http://www.stereogum.com/1901721/solange-talks-black-joy-master-p-her-punk-album-a-seat-at-the-table/franchises/interview/

She lists Minnie Riperton, Tweet and Syreeta as some of her influences for this album. Sounds good to me.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 28 September 2016 19:26 (nine years ago)

no interludes > deletable interludes > neverending tracks

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 22:58 (nine years ago)

why on earth did that interview get taken down?

laraaji p. henson (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 29 September 2016 04:42 (nine years ago)

I presume because it contained details about the album that she didn't want people to know about until it was released. Would wager that it will go back up after tomorrow.

art baengels (monotony), Thursday, 29 September 2016 05:54 (nine years ago)

spoken word intro > hidden tracks > indistinct chatter before the song starts (the longer the worst) > interludes

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 29 September 2016 09:40 (nine years ago)

this album is beautiful

j. winters (josh), Friday, 30 September 2016 04:34 (nine years ago)

Yeah, this is a gorgeous record. The production is so lush.

Kitchen Person, Friday, 30 September 2016 05:03 (nine years ago)

it's also boring as hell

Number None, Friday, 30 September 2016 06:31 (nine years ago)

hum. I'm 2/3 through the first listen of the album and so far it's very pleasant but no song really stands out.

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 30 September 2016 13:00 (nine years ago)

I like this a lot, I like boring shit.

akm, Friday, 30 September 2016 13:27 (nine years ago)

also the interludes are fine

akm, Friday, 30 September 2016 13:46 (nine years ago)

first hook on this that i really responded to was of course completely dampened by sampha's voice

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 30 September 2016 16:50 (nine years ago)

dampha

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 30 September 2016 16:56 (nine years ago)

this reallllly feels like a sequel to the tweet record so if you like this idk listen to that one too imo

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 30 September 2016 17:48 (nine years ago)

A track like "Cranes in the Sky" sounds a lot like the quiet mid '70s Minnie Ripperton vibe of Corinne Rae Bailey's last album (which I also like a lot). I don't think Solange is a melodist in her league though.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 30 September 2016 17:49 (nine years ago)

actually tihs album bores me

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 30 September 2016 17:50 (nine years ago)

oh good i'm glad we're both picking up on minnie riperton vibes alfred

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 30 September 2016 17:51 (nine years ago)

this is more compelling on second listen, and i really love "where do we go," but it also sorta overrelies on the arrangements and the general framing to lift up the v limited melodies

not mad at it though

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 30 September 2016 18:07 (nine years ago)

F.U.B.U. is greaaaaat. when Terius comes in!!!! yes!!

mingalaba, Friday, 30 September 2016 23:21 (nine years ago)

I still really hate that cover! First listen nothing in particular stands out... it's very homogenic sounding... will give it another listen when I'm in the mood for this sort of music but not impressed so far.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 2 October 2016 17:19 (nine years ago)

Why do you hate the cover? Do you hate the cover or do you hate the way she looks, for some reason? I don't get the hate. She looks beautiful.

First listen felt like striking gold, this. Songs like Cranes in the Sky and Don't You Wait are so blissful. Indeed Riperton comes to mind. I love how homogenic it sounds. There's no 'Losing You' but it's just not the record for it. Nothing needs to stand out, it's all very good, impeccable lush singing, arrangements with great detail. I love this in all its "homogenic", subdued gloriousness.

the tightening is plateauing (Le Bateau Ivre), Sunday, 2 October 2016 18:59 (nine years ago)

great basslines on this record.

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Sunday, 2 October 2016 20:13 (nine years ago)

'cranes in the sky' sounds like a dirty projectors outtake, although dave longstreth is credited on 7 other tracks on the record but not cranes

mingalaba, Monday, 3 October 2016 05:06 (nine years ago)

Cranezzzz

piscesx, Monday, 3 October 2016 21:58 (nine years ago)

Nah, this still sounds like much of the terrain that Corinne Rae Bailey's working only less interesting.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2016 22:26 (nine years ago)

I suggest everyone forget this record and go to Fantasia's marvelous new one.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2016 22:27 (nine years ago)

Fantasia's album seemed like a significant regression from the 2013 one imo but i guess i should try it again

art baengels (monotony), Monday, 3 October 2016 22:54 (nine years ago)

this album also imo does interesting and beautiful things just like the CBR one

art baengels (monotony), Monday, 3 October 2016 22:55 (nine years ago)

significant? really? I think at worst it's a notch below.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2016 23:16 (nine years ago)

"where do we go" is so lovely

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 October 2016 00:12 (nine years ago)

and "junie" is huge jam. idk the more time i spend with this the more i like it. i hate to be like post-frank ocean "songs are for olds man" but directing ppl to the fantasia record seems a misdirection bc she's doing something very different, exercise- and craft-oriented. this is v focused on details without many glimpses of a larger picture, all the songs kind of occupy the same space and seem to elaborate on each other laterally

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 October 2016 00:30 (nine years ago)

There's no 'Losing You'

imo good

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 October 2016 00:32 (nine years ago)

'losing you' is kind of bad imho
